The Fantastic Four: First Steps Looks So Damn Good!

Randomly, for all I know, we got a new, full-sized trailer for The Fantastic Four: First Steps today, and holy cow, it looks so damn good! The characters, the effects, the personal stakes, the drama, the scale and scope; this is one gorgeous trailer, people!

So good! They go into so much, without giving away too much, in my opinion. Or maybe I’m still just too hyped about this trailer. Loved the look at the team, loved the look of the Silver Surfer. I have no problem with Marvel switching from Norrin Radd to Shalla-Bal. Seems a perfectly ordinary and uninteresting change to me. And then we get just enough Galactus tease to make me happy. I love the look, I love the feel, I love the retro-futurism, I love that new theme song; hot damn this looks to be an exciting movie!

The Fantastic Four: First Steps is coming to theaters on July 25.

There’ll Be a New Wes Anderson Movie This Year!

Wes Anderson is probably my favorite Hollywood director. I don’t care much or think much about directors, but Wes Anderson is special, and we all know why. He makes Wes Anderson movies, and I love them all so much. And if, like me, you love these weird and wacky movies, then the trailer for The Phoenician Scheme is pure Wes Anderson.

Every new trailer for every new Wes Anderson movie is always the most Wes Anderson thing ever produced. He just keeps reaching new peaks of his own unique style. It’s weird and wild! There are enough plot points to make out some semblance of a story, but otherwise, this is just a madcap romp of famous actors doing Wes Anderson-y things. And I’m fully on board for that. Can’t wait!

The Phoenician Scheme comes to theaters on May 30, so less than two months away!

Some Delightful Movie Trailers for This Friday

We’ve got the Minecraft movie coming soon, so I assume that’s the reason for a bunch of new movie trailers arriving on our doorstep this week. And seeing as how I don’t have all the time in the world, I’m just gonna lump them all together in a single Friday post! That’s how I roll. Let’s start with something awesome.

The Naked Gun is getting a modern reboot/sequel! Starring Liam Neeson! And it looks pretty darn funny so far.

The original Naked Gun movies are all-time classics, and this trailer looks like things will stay funny and wacky. I love that part. And they tackle the OJ Simpson dilemma right up front and it’s pretty darn funny. So let’s definitely go with this one!

The Naked Gun is coming to theaters on Aug. 1.

Next up is M3gan 2.0, the sequel to that creepy killer doll movie. And as one might expect, the twist for the sequel is pretty predictable. But it might still be good.

I think I liked the first M3gan. I remember watching it and I remember parts of it. But I don’t remember my thoughts or opinion on it. Weird. Anyway, this sequel looks like something one might expect from such a sequel. Though I’m disappointed that the new evil doll looks like a person instead of a doll. That’s also a weird choice.

M3gan 2.0 comes to theaters on June 27.

Just to shake things up, let’s check out the trailer for Fountain of Youth, coming to AppleTV+. Normally I wouldn’t really have anything to say about this trailer, but man…it looks like something made by committee.

And though it might look like something made by committee…it also looks…good? Ish? Like, disposable movie nonsense. But the sort of disposable movie nonsense you can just watch and mostly enjoy. It’s got some good actors, at least.

Fountain of Youth comes to streaming on May 23.

I’m Less Interested in Elio Now

The next Pixar movie is Elio, about a boy who gets wrapped up in some alien craziness. I liked the look of the first teaser trailer. It seemed like some random boy was plucked off Earth, mistakenly believed to be Earth’s president, or something. But nah, that’s apparently not the plot at all.

Now it’s a movie about an awkward kid finding his place in the universe. Which is fine. That’s a good lesson for kids. And that eyepatch thing is very representative of kids who had to get that eyepatch thing. But this trailer really loses me. He’s a kid who wants to get abducted by aliens, that’s his quirk. And when he does, he makes an alien best friend and they gotta deal with being dorks together, and then deal with an overbearing father. It all feels very pat.

Anyway, Pixar can do whatever they like. Elio comes to theaters on June 20.

Everybody’s Gonna Have to Resubscribe to Netflix for Happy Gilmore 2

It’s happening. It’s really happening. They’ve made Happy Gilmore 2 and it’s coming to Netflix this summer. Jeez louise. Who ever could have guessed the world would come to this?

First things first, I’m a big Adam Sandler apologist. The dude is great. He’s always been great. And if his idea of making movies is to get studios to give him a ton of money so that he and his friends can goof off on vacation, who am I stop him or complain? That’s a dream job for probably everybody on Earth, and he’s making it happen, and it couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy.

Second, you’re darn right I’m going to watch Happy Gilmore 2. I can’t wait to watch it! I don’t know what it’s going to be like. I don’t know if it will be an obvious crap film or just mildly OK. I’m gonna watch it and I’m gonna giggle at the Easter Eggs and callbacks and then I’ll go to bed and the next day will occur. I’ll probably have to go to work that next day. Life will move on.

Happy Gilmore 2 is coming to Netflix on July 25.
