Silver Surfer Cast in New Fantastic Four Movie!
According to Deadline, actor Julia Garner has been cast as the Silver Surfer in the upcoming MCU Fantastic Four movie. They believe she will play a Shalla-Bal variant, which is neat! Shalla-Bal is the normal Surfer’s home planet girlfriend, who he saved by sacrificing himself to Galactus. Interesting choice instead of just gender-flipping Norrin Radd.
As a lifelong Silver Surfer fan, I am perfectly OK with the movie switching the Surfer to Shalla-Bal and making the character female. A girl can be as introspective and as awesome as a dude, and the same can be said about Silver Surfer! I don’t know Garner as an actor, but all I’m hearing online are great things. So this should be pretty awesome.
Since we have so few details, a lot of people online are grasping at straws. They think she’ll be based on a Shalla-Bal version of the Surfer from a single issue of Earth X, or that this will be the Silver Surfer of an alternate reality. Personally, I think it’ll just be a story where Shalla-Bal instead of Norrin Radd sacrificed themselves to Galactus to save Zenn-La. Norrin Radd and Shalla-Bal are very similar characters, and I wouldn’t expect any great difference between the two.
But I could be very wrong. What do I know?
This movie just gets more and more interesting! Marvel, of course, hasn’t confirmed or denied anything.

Let’s Take Another New Look at Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes
A new, extended trailer/clip of Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes came out yesterday, and it’s the perfect sort of thing for me to share on this idle Tuesday. It’s got one extended clip that doesn’t give too much away, and then some more trailer, wanting you to watch this film on IMAX.
This movie looks great! The CGI is perfect. The character dynamics seem really cool. The drama feels great. This will hopefully be a damn fun film!
Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes comes to theaters on May 10.

Jerry Seinfeld is Making a Pop-Tarts Movie
Frankly, this looks more parody than anything else, which I can get behind. A parody of all these ‘true story’ movies, like Air or Tetris. And it’s got a good cast. But I don’t think it comes off as particularly funny. See for yourself.
Is it weird that they don’t say the name ‘Pop-Tarts’ anywhere in that trailer? I suppose the Pop-Tarts people might not even be involved. Also, who eats unfrosted Pop-Tarts?
Anyway, Unfrosted comes to Netflix on May 3. I might watch, depending on how bored I get some nights.

6 Classic Godzilla Monsters I Want to See in the Modern Films
Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire comes out this week and promises some brand new monster action — and a pink Godzilla, which I’m totally fine with. We’ve already seen the new orangutan monster in the trailers, and there are hints of even more beasties for the new film. And while I’m in favor of creating new monsters, there are still plenty of classic beasts we’ve yet to see in the new franchise.
I’m an old-school Godzilla fan from the silly ’80s period. And my favorite films were the ones where Godzilla teams up with other good monsters to fight the bad guys. The new movies have featured a lot of classic monsters, from Ghidorah, Mothra and Rodan to a surprise appearance from Mechagodzilla. But I want more! Hopefully this new film is another hit and we can keep getting these sequels over and over again, with more and more monsters!
Join me after the jump for six classic Godzilla beasties that I want to see in the new films!
Read the rest of this entryMovie Trailer Monday
It’s Monday, I have the day off from work and am just snowed in enough that I don’t feel like going out to clean off my car. I was going to see Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire this past weekend, but I didn’t because my car is covered in snow. How’s that for the universe’s sense of humor? Anyway, it’s time to share a couple of movie trailers that came out last week!
First up, Alien: Romulus. I’m not a big Aliens guy, so I’m not super hyped for this franchise or this trailer. But it came out, people are excited, so here we go!
It’s just a teaser trailer, so not too much revealed. But I’d say this trailer does a great job setting the tone, setting what the movie is gonna be like. Lots of running, lots of CGI monsters. The Face Huggers run now. Did they always do that? Or is this a running zombies upgrade? Anyway, looks fine. Not sure what the “Romulus” subtitle is about, but it exists.
Alien: Romulus is coming to theaters on Aug. 16.
Next up is a fun new trailer for The Fall Guy!
This movie looks like a hoot! Funny, charming, full of action and weird story beats. I think this one could be really wild and popular this spring/summer. Maybe this year’s Bullet Train, only it has more success at the box office than Bullet Train.
The Fall Guy comes to theaters on May 3.
Lastly, a fuller trailer for Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga.
I want to like this movie. I’m going to see this movie in theaters opening weekend. But I stand by my claim that Furiosa did not need an origin story movie. I don’t know how this is supposed to compete with or compare to Fury Road. That movie was a masterpiece. Why not make a sequel? We already know that Furiosa isn’t going to achieve any of her goals in this new prequel. But we’ll see.
At least Chris Hemsworth looks like he’s having a ball as the villain!
Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga comes to theaters on May 24.
