Let’s Take Another Look at the Steven Universe TV Movie!
Steven Universe is getting a big relaunch next week with a made-for-TV movie! The show is technically still going, I think, even though the last season finale was absolutely epic. The movie is going to see a 2-year time jump, during which our boy is finally going to grow up a little bit!
It looks great to me! My only real gripe with the show is that one episode where it states that Steven is growing up at a slower rate. It was a dumb idea. I realize they probably wanted to keep him in his familiar kid form for the bulk of the show, but it’s not like the show spanned years. The entire show is about Steven maturing! Let’s see that happen! Let him grow up!
With this movie, it looks like they might be, and I am stoked! The movie drops on Sept. 2.

Sony Pulls the Plug On Their Spider-Man Deal With Marvel
The report has just come in from Deadline: Sony has struck down Marvel’s request for more equal profits on the Spider-Man films, so the deal to share the Wall-Crawler is at and end. Damn it all to hell.
Deadline obviously has all the finer details and understands them better than me. Basically, I think Marvel wanted a 50/50 split on costs or profits, but Sony would agree to nothing of the sort. The deal has been that Sony would get all the movie profits from Spider-Man films, while Marvel worked their magic to make them awesome, and was allowed to have Spidey show up in Avengers films. And obviously that has worked out splendidly, considering Spider-Man: Homecoming and Spider-Man Far From Home were both great, and Spidey’s appearances in other Marvel movies were also a blast!
But good things don’t last forever and greed is the most powerful thing of all. Sony clearly thinks they’ll do fine on their own, with all of their hopes resting on a dumb Morbius movie.
Venom was only successful because people like Venom! Not because you made a good movie! Granted, Sony also made Into the Spider-Verse without Marvel’s input…
Ugh. This is just bad, annoying news. Why can’t we have nice things? Far From Home earned more than a billion dollars and it was because of Marvel. Argh. There’s no point in my blathering. We all know how terrible and dumb this is, but then we’re not stupid Hollywood executives.

I’m 40% Dolemite!
Eddie Murphy is back! This time he’s making a biopic about comedian Rudy Ray Moore, who invented the Dolemite character. I only know the character by name, like when he was referenced multiple times in Futurama. So this new movie might be very informative!
Looks pretty funny. Dolemite Is My Name comes out sometime this fall, I think. And I might finally be able to put some history to the Futurama joke!

Also, You Should Watch Dora and the Lost City of Gold!
The live action Dora the Explorer movie is surprisingly great! The trailers for Dora and the Lost City of Gold looked pretty cool, so I went to see the film this past weekend and it’s surprisingly fun and charming.
It’s got something for both kids and adults, with a sharply written script. It’s easily risen to one of my favorite movies of the year so far. And I’ve never even watched the original cartoon! I already know all my vocabulary.

Honestly, I Have No Problem to the Time Travel in Avengers: Endgame
Avengers: Endgame was great and hugely entertaining, and I’m all set to grab the DVD next week. But first, Honest Trailers tackles the hit and mostly complains about how it handles time travel. Look, you just gotta not worry too much.
Just go with the flow, baby, and enjoy some Avengers: Endgame! I saw it three times in theaters, and while I don’t think it’s as good as Infinity War, it’s still good. Avengers: Endgame is currently sitting at my favorite movie of the year so far.
