Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 8/6/22
What a time to be alive. So many movies, TV shows, comics and video games are coming out these days. It’s a helluva time to be a fan! We’ve got new issues of Mighty Morphin, Poison Ivy and a bunch of X-Men comics this week!
Comic Book of the Week goes to Batman #126 because I am loving Chip Zdarsky’s Batman run so far. It’s just some really strong Batman comic bookery.
Meanwhile, I fear I might be losing half the X-Men comics I’m reading for a couple of months. I still haven’t gone back and read Judgement Day, and a lot of books this week are tie-ins. I just…don’t…care. Maybe I’ll find some time coming up and judge binge a bunch of comics to get caught up. Is Judgement Day any good so far?
Comic Reviews: Batman #126, Legion of X #4, Mighty Morphin #22 and Poison Ivy #3.

Marvel Studios blew the top off San Diego Comic-Con the other week by announcing all of Phase 5, with teases of Phase 6 into 2025. But Phase 6 has a bunch of holes in it. We know it’s going to start with the Fantastic Four and end with a pair of Avengers films, but what else is going to fill these open spots?
There’s a very good chance we will learn the rest of Phase 6 at Disney’s upcoming fan event in September. They won’t stay a secret for long. But between now and that fan event, I might as well spend some time mindlessly speculating about what I want to see going forward in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. What else is there to fill our days but mindless speculation?
Join me after the jump for six TV shows and movies I hope to see from Marvel Studios in Phase 6! And feel free to share some of your own hopes and dreams in the comments!

He did it. That mad man did it!
At long last, after nearly two decades of build-up, writer Dan Slott has finally brought us the Reckoning War in the pages of Fantastic Four. And in doing so, he’s finally brought together the characters of Gauntlet and Southpaw as they were always meant to be: cannon fodder for an evil, alien suit of armor.
Most importantly for this moment, it’s Southpaw’s first appearance in more than a decade.
I haven’t been reading Reckoning War, so I can’t exactly comment on how awesome it probably is. But I did recently learn that this moment I’ve been waiting for for many years has finally arrived. Sort of. Not exactly the way I wanted it to go down, but it has happened nonetheless. And I think it’s a neat enough occurrence to mark the occasion.
Join me after the jump for why it’s a big deal that Southpaw is back!

Pretty light week for comics for me, just a couple of Marvel comics to get me through the week. Fortunately, they’re all really banging, like The Variants and a new Ant-Man mini-series.
Comic book of the Week goes to Amazing Spider-Man #900 for a truly special and enjoyable anniversary issue. I hope this is a sign of what we can expect from these creators going forward.
Meanwhile, the Harley Quinn cartoon is back and I love it! The first few episodes of season 3 are out and they’re just as good as the first two seasons. Can’t wait for more! And I just finished Severance on AppleTV+ last night, and it lives up to all the hype I’ve been hearing. Crazy show! Also, DC League of Super-Pets is boring as hell and nobody should bother with it, unless you need to entertain young children.
Comic Reviews: Amazing Spider-Man #900, Ant-Man #1 and The Variants #2.

What an exciting Comic Con! All the big names in pop culture had a great time in San Diego this past weekend, especially Marvel Studios. They revealed a ton of upcoming movies and finally confirmed that they’re working on a Thunderbolts picture. This makes that team the perfect choice for my annual team roster tradition.
Every Comic Con, I have a bit of creative fun by picking my ideal superhero team roster. Someday I’d like to write superhero comics for a living, and that means I might get the chance to pick my dream roster for various superhero teams. I’ve written about my dream Avengers, Justice League, Teen Titans, Fantastic Four and a host of others, including some original X-Team ideas for the Krakoa era. It’s just a fun little game where I get to live my dreams!
And this year I’m going to do my ideal comic book Thunderbolts! I already did a List of Six a month ago for my Thunderbolts roster in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But what about in the comics? Join me after the jump to see how I would remake the Thunderbolts on the page! And feel free to share your own dream Thunderbolts teams in the comments!
