Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 4/22/23
We have another mighty fine week of comics for you fine folks. This is one of those weeks where all my favorites come out, like Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, Nightwing, and even that new Superman. I love a week when all the comics are catered to me!
Comic Book of the Week is an upset this time, with the arrival of She-Hulk #12 to deliver the exact sort of Marvel superhero comic I want to read: a book club meeting! Fair warning, I really go off on this one.
Meanwhile, I very much enjoyed the third season finale of The Mandalorian this week, and I’m gonna do a list of my thoughts/review of the whole season on Wednesday. So be sure to come back to that as I blow all the haters out of the water. I’m also considering the Burning Shores DLC for Horizon: Forbidden West, but am otherwise still grinding my way through Gotham Knights.
Comic Reviews: Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #107, Nightwing #103, She-Hulk #12, Superboy: Man of Tomorrow #1 and Superman #3.

Comics come and comics go, and this week they came. Got a bunch on my list to read, and a bunch on my list to review. And now you can scroll down and read them all! We’ve got the kick off the Captain America: Cold War, we’ve got some Fantastic Four, and another issue of the X-Men!
Comic Book of the Week goes to the new Guardians of the Galaxy #1 because, at the very least, the Guardians as cowboys is fun.
Meanwhile, I’m still grinding my way through Gotham Knights. I can definitely play that game for long binges and enjoy myself, but so much of the gameplay is frustrating. I think I’m mostly in it to find the perfect transmog Robin costume, even though Batgirl is probably the best character to play. Also, I don’t care what the haters are saying, I’m enjoying the third seasons of both The Mandalorian and Ted Lasso.
Comic Reviews: Captain America: Cold War Alpha, Fantastic Four #6, Guardians of the Galaxy #1, and X-Men #21.

Our first look at The Marvels is here! The first trailer/teaser debuted today and it looks to be something of a hoot. Mostly I’m here for Kamala Khan to start interacting with the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe, but I’m also here for all of it.
As a teaser, this is a nice look at what we’re going to get in this movie. The premise that the three main characters are switching places when they use their powers is an interesting choice. I don’t know if it works for me quite yet. But if it means putting Iman Vellani’s Ms. Marvel into weird situations, I’m all for it.
This first trailer looks good and I’m as excited for this movie as I am for any Marvel movie these days — which is very excited. I’m also very excited for Ms. Marvel season 2. Get on that, Marvel!
The Marvels comes to theaters in November.

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 4/8/23
Happy Easter, everyone! I’ll be heading home to get a meal with the parents and whatever extended family show up. That’s always fun. Even if it comes right in the middle of my 3-day weekend. Oh well. It’s always nice to have Monday off. And it’s always nice to get some quality, generally good comics this week, like Batman, Captain America and even more Saga.
Comic Book of the Week goes to Scarlet Witch #4, which remains a really fun, engaging and magical comic.
Meanwhile, I’m still chugging through Gotham Knights. The fights are a real chore, so I’m not all that attached to the game. But I’m gonna make it through, I’m gonna do all the good Robin stuff! And I’m eagerly awaiting the new Chaos Dwarves DLC to Total War: Warhammer 3, my game of the year from last year. And I liked the Super Mario Bros. Movie, even if it was pretty basic. No Sonic the Hedgehog cameo, like I was hoping for.
Comic Reviews: Batman #134, Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty #11, Saga #63 and Scarlet Witch #4.

There have been a whole bunch of new trailers released over the past few days, possibly to get out in front of the upcoming Super Mario Bros. Movie. That’s great news for me, because I love trailers! And here come two great ones!
First up is the new trailer for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. We get a bigger look at the worlds, we get our first look at the Spot, and we get some good looking conflict.
Looks great to me! There seems to be a lot going on, perhaps too much, based on this trailer. But I’m confident they’ll put it all together. Looks like Miles wants to save his father at the cost of saving the multiverse, and Miguel doesn’t want that to happen. Makes sense. But the animation looks beautiful. The Spot looks fun. The kajillion Spider characters are a hoot. We get our first look at Scarlet Spider!
This movie doesn’t need trailers. It’s going to be fire no matter what. Can’t wait! Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse comes to theaters on June 2.
Next up is the first trailer for Blue Beetle, our first look at this movie, and I think it looks good. We get a lot of flavor and character in this Blue Beetle trailer, and I like what I see.
I’ll admit, this trailer does seem to hit all the familiar beats of a superhero origin story. But the charm outweighs the tropes for me. Xolo Maridueña looks like he’s having fun as Jaime Reyes, and I love the family feel. George Lopez looks especially fun. And I think the Blue Beetle effects look really good. Blue Beetle looks like a fun movie. Can it overcome the DC curse that killed Black Adam and Shazam 2? We’ll find out. I think it looks good.
Blue Beetle comes to theaters on Aug. 18.
