Age of Ultron Bloopers!

Avengers: Age of Ultron is starting to become available at long last. It’s available digitally, with DVDs and the like due out early next month. And that means we’ve got a fun little blooper reel to enjoy. Everybody loves blooper reels!

I know I do! I rewatched the movie just last night as part of my epic birthday weekend. It was a blast!

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 9/5/15

Somehow, fate finds a way to balance the scales. Last week, I reviewed nearly a dozen comics all piled into one New Comics Day! This week, I had to scrape and scrounge to find some interesting comics to talk about. And they’re all Marvel, that’s always a hoot.

I went back to last week and snagged my copy of Hank Johnson: Agent of Hydra, by popular request. I also picked up Mockingbird #1, a special issue celebrating the anniversary of SHIELD. And Comic Book of the Week goes to Silk #7, the last issue before the Secret Wars break, for a pretty good wrap-up of the first story arc.

Never a dull moment!

Over at Word of the Nerd, I continue the lack of content with a look at House of M #2. It’s a pretty boring comic, despite involving two rebellions, an angry Scarlet Witch and Fin Fang Foom.

Comic Reviews: Hank Johnson: Agent of Hydra #1, Mockingbird #1, Silk #7, and Silver Surfer #14.

Misty Knight Secretly Cast in the Upcoming Luke Cage TV Show!

Casting announcements have been flying around the past week or so for the upcoming Luke Cage show on Netflix, and while I didn’t really know any of the characters or actors announced, we’ve finally got a live one here! It seems that the show will feature Misty Knight, another established superhero in the Marvel Universe!

Misty Knight will be played by actor Simone Missick, who I’ve never heard of, but I’m sure will do a fine job. Marvel and Netflix have this casting thing down pat!

Hopefully the robotic arm will be included

Deadline made the catch after a casting call listed the character as ‘Missy’.

Misty Knight is a badass former cop who lost an arm in the line of duty, then had it replaced by Tony Stark with an awesome bionic arm. No word on whether or not the bionic arm will also be in the show, but adding Misty Knight to the Netflix universe sounds awesome to me! And perhaps she’ll guest star in the eventual Iron Fist series, since they’re romantic partners in the comics.

The 6 Coolest Newspaper Reporters in Comics

It’s my birthday this weekend, and I’ve been racking my brain to come up with a neat List of Six to commemorate the celebration. I thought about a list of the coolest comic book characters named Sean. Or maybe my personal Bucket List. But I couldn’t find six entries for either — my Bucket List right now is only ‘visit Australia’ and ‘write a novel’, which I’m pretty sure everybody has.

So how about a List of Six of the coolest, niftiest newspaper reporters in comics? That’s my day job, after all, and I’m a big fan!

That’s a poor headline

Newspaper reporters have been around since the very beginning of comics. It’s a fun profession, and newspapers have big mouths. Who doesn’t love J. Jonah Jameson and his latest ‘Spider-Man is a Menace!’ headline? And there’s nothing I’d love more than if a masked vigilante moved into my neighborhood and I got to write newspaper articles about him or her!

Join me after the jump for the six most awesome newspaper reporters in comics!

Starbrand and Nightmask are Getting an Ongoing Series, Hopefully for the Fun of It

Some of you out there in comic book land might have fond memories of the New Universe. Back in the 1980s, Marvel attempted to try out a brand new set of superheroes, named the New Universe, with heroes like Starbrand, Nightmask and a few others. It didn’t last very long. The New Universe characters have bounced around the multiverse ever since, until very recently, when writer Jonathan Hickman tied these two characters specifically into his ongoing Avengers saga.

Hickman introduced the Starbrand and Nightmask of the 616 Universe, and now the pair will be getting their own ongoing series by writer Greg Weisman and artist Dominike “Domo” Stanton.

No doubt we can expect hijinks

Based on that cover, one has to think that the duo are going to have some fun in their series!

Me personally, I might pick it up, because I kind of like Hickman’s Starbrand. I could care less about the whole New Universe nonsense, but the idea Hickman had that the ‘star brand’ is a super power created by each individual universe as a defense mechanism is pretty cool, and I liked the character’s introduction in Hickman’s Avengers.

I have no idea what the ongoing series will be like, or if it’ll be any good, or if it’ll last. But like I said, I might just be curious enough to check it out!

And you can check out an interview with Weisman on Comic Book Resources.
