Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 1/30/16

We’re still tepidly awaiting the reveal of the new DC Rebirth here in Comic Book Land. Will it be a complete reboot like the New 52? Or just a relaunch like Marvel’s Post-Secret Wars plans? Your guess is as good as mine! I’m just gonna keep reading and enjoying myself.

One comic that I know will never let you down is my own, Gamer Girl & Vixen! We’re gearing up for another Kickstarter soon, so if you missed out on getting the comic the first time, we’re going to go bigger and better soon! I’ll try not to talk your ears off too much about it.

Until then, let’s enjoy new issues of the Avengers, Spider-Woman, We Are Robin and more! This week finally saw the release of Faith #1 from Valiant Comics, which I was excited about, but which didn’t live up to the hype. Fortunately, the new issue of Grayson steals the show with one of the best non-Squirrel Girl jokes I’ve read in awhile.

Wait for it…

Consider that Comic Book of the Week material!

Also, for anybody tuning in for my ongoing coverage of Saga, I decided not to review the new issue because not a whole lot happens. Brian Vaughn kind of just moved a few pieces around the board. Not a big deal.

Comic Reviews: All-New, All-Different Avengers #4, Angela: Queen of Hel #4, Faith #1, Grayson #16, Spider-Woman #3 and We Are Robin #8.

Oh Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., You Try, You Really Do

I mostly enjoy Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. It’s a fine enough show, providing a bit of entertainment throughout my week. But oh man is it trying so hard. Right, Honest Trailers?

They got zinged hard! The Screen Junkies are usually always on point. I’m probably gonna keep watching though. Gotta hold out hope for that Ant-Man cameo…

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 1/23/16

This was an exciting week for comics! We’ve got new issues of some of my favorites, like Astonishing Ant-Man and Ms. Marvel, as well as the excellent return of the new Patsy Walker series. Heck, even DC delivered, with another big Batman issue, and the first issue of the new Poison Ivy mini-series. This week was packed to the gills!

But two of the best issues were new #1s! I’m talking, of course, about the relaunched Captain Marvel and Silver Surfer comics! One has a new creative team and a new direction, while the other doubles down on what made the previous volume so good — which is exactly why the new Silver Surfer #1 wins Comic Book of the Week!

You’re live to the whole world!

But it’s good to have both series back! Marvel is finally shaking off all the Secret Wars malaise (even though I did enjoy Secret Wars).

Comic Reviews: Astonishing Ant-Man #4, Batman #48, Captain Marvel #1, Ms. Marvel #3, Poison Ivy #1, Patsy Walker a.k.a. Hellcat #2 and Silver Surfer #1.

By the Way, Steve Rogers is Coming Back as Captain America

Announced a few days ago, it looks like Steve Rogers will once again be Captain America in the comics. He’s getting a new costume to boot, designed by artist Daniel Acuna. I think he looks pretty great.

Go America!

Obviously, Steve is getting back in the saddle because he has a new movie coming out in the Spring. That’s fine by me. He’s done a lot as an old man, and I’m sure his new series will be a lot of fun. The comic will be written by Nick Spencer, who is doing great on Astonishing Ant-Man, with art by Jesus Saiz.

Meanwhile, Sam Wilson will also remain as a Captain America, and will get to keep the iconic shield. Marvel is gonna try dueling Captains for awhile, possibly to reflect the near 50/50 split between liberals and conservatives in our country. Or maybe Marvel just wants a bunch of Captain Americas.

Should be fun either way! And like I said, I’m digging the new costume. What do you henchies think?

6 Villains I Want to See on Future Marvel Netflix Shows

This past weekend, I rewatched Daredevil on Netflix, and it still holds up! I’m doubly excited now for the second season in March! Likewise, Netflix and Marvel have announced a second season of Jessica Jones, and there are rumors on the wind of a Punisher show as well. Clearly, this big Marvel experiment has been a huge success, and hopefully it’s only going to get bigger and better from here!

And with new shows and seasons comes a need for new bad guys!

Where are their Emmys?

The Luke Cage show is scheduled to debut later this year. Iron Fist is still in the works. And The Defenders will be here before we know it. It’s a great time to be a Marvel fan — and a Marvel villain! Everyone agrees that the bad guys who star in these shows are some of the best Marvel is putting out, possibly because we have a whole season to get to know them instead of a 2-hour movie. Wilson Fisk on Daredevil and Kilgrave on Jessica Jones have made for great TV, but who else can Marvel use on the small screen?

Join me after the jump for six super-villains that I think would be great for upcoming Netflix shows!
