Let’s Enjoy Some D23 Trailers!

D23 was this past weekend, which is a big Disney convention where they show off all sorts of stuff they’re working on. The news sounds pretty good! And we got a ton of trailers officially released, along with a ton of trailers I had to watch bootleg copies of online. That still works, to a degree, but hopefully we get the full trailers soon.

So let’s just run down what we’ve got

First up is Moana 2. I read online that this started as a TV show and then transitioned into a movie. Could be. It won’t have the Lin Manuel Miranda music, which is a shame. But the animation looks sharp, and the cast is back. Here’s hoping it’s a fun adventure.

Moana 2 comes to theaters on Nov. 27.

Second up is the first trailer for the live action Snow White.

I will say two things: this looks good, but these live action movies tend to stink. So I’m honestly fairly convinced it’s going to be bad. But it’s still a big release, and I’m sure Disney is hoping for the best, so I wanted to share.

Snow White will come to theaters next year, on March 21.

Third up is a new trailer for the live action Mufasa movie, the Lion King prequel.

I think this is a dumb idea and the trailer looks dumb. I did not enjoy the live action Lion King movie, and I definitely don’t need a prequel. I especially don’t need a prequel with some weird lore. So Mufasa wasn’t actually in the royal lineage? He was an orphan adopted by Scar’s family? I’m not a fan of it.

I’m also not a fan of the tropey story where two future enemies start out as best friends. We’re going to see the exact same story in Transformers One. So…weird.

Mufasa comes to theaters on Dec. 20.

Now we turn to Marvel, with a new trailer for Agatha All Along!

Look, I’m an unapologetic MCU apologist. I’ve enjoyed all of their TV shows, with the sole exception of Secret Invasion. I even enjoyed Echo. So it’s entirely likely that I’ll enjoy Agatha All Along. I’m definitely going to watch and hope for the best!

Agatha All Along comes to Disney+ on Sept. 18 and will mostly release weekly, right into Halloween season.

Speaking of Marvel, I saw bootleg trailers for Daredevil: Born Again, Ironheart and a new trailer for Captain America: Brave New World. They all looked great! I can’t wait to watch the trailers for real. I’m looking forward to all three projects.

Lastly we have the trailer for the next Star Wars show, Skeleton Crew.

This one is really interesting. A bunch of kids on an adventure, set in Star Wars. It’s the Goonies, it’s Stand By Me; a fascinating idea. It looks great, full of Star Wars stuff, so I’ll definitely watch — though I haven’t been particularly thrilled with most of the Star Wars shows. So we’ll see.

Skeleton Crew comes to Disney+ on Dec. 3.

Meanwhile, I saw bootleg trailers for the Mandalorian and Grogu movie, which didn’t show too much. And the second season of Andor, which looked great. So I’m definitely excited for those. Lots of good things coming out in the year ahead. Can’t wait!

And I can’t wait to share those other trailers when they’re released for real.

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 8/10/24

There’s only going to be one review this week, I’m afraid. I still read a bunch of comics, but I don’t really want to do a write up for just any comic, especially if its just humming along nicely like, say, Scarlett. But I definitely wanted to get my thoughts down about Gail Simone’s Uncanny X-Men #1!

Comic Book of the Week goes to Uncanny X-Men #1 because it lives up to the hype and excitement.

“Ground Bear” is the perfect Rogue to Wolverine nickname

Meanwhile, I’m spending the month busying myself with nonsense games as I await Star Wars: Outlaws at the end of the month. I hope that game is going to be fun. I spent money on the latest IDW hardcover Ninja Turtles collection, which means I now own 16 of these things without having read a single one. I have a problem. And the Kickstarter remains ongoing for the second issue of The Cloakroom! Check it out!

Comic Reviews: Uncanny X-Men #1.

Live Action Animated Wolverine!

Tell It Animated is back with Wolverine! Deadpool & Wolverine is still making box office money, so this still fits! And it’s a fun little video, tracing all the live action Wolverine costumes through the movies. Shame he couldn’t include the animated Wolverines as well.

Wolverine’s black leather outfits weren’t so bad. I like the gold lining they had, and the stripes here and there. And the new yellow outfit totally works. Has anyone photoshopped what the new movie outfit would look like if he kept the shoulder pads while going sleeveless? I’m sure they thought about it while making the movie and it looked dumb, but I’d still enjoy.

Anyway, as always, should he ever read these posts, my suggestion for a new one is Robin! Not that there’s any Robin content coming out anytime soon…

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 8/3/24

Another week, another pile of comics, and life moves on nicely. This was one of those weird Fifth Wednesdays, so not as many comics, but we do have some important ones like the end of Power Rangers and the start of X-Force.

Comic Book of the Week goes to Ultimate Spider-Man #7 because I liked it the best out of the comics I read this week.

Good old warehouse sparring

Meanwhile, the Kickstarter is up and running for the second issue of the Cloakroom, the short story anthology for students in Scott Snyder’s Comic Writing 101 class. Snyder has a ton of stuff going on these days, and I haven’t even really dug into much of it yet, but I’m happy to support my classmates! I was featured in the first issue, and hope to see many more issues to come! So go support up-and-coming comic writers!

6 Thoughts on Deadpool & Wolverine (Review)

The Marvel Universe is back, baby! Is what I would say if I were into saying silly things like that. At the very least, Deadpool and Wolverine are back, and that’s good enough. I’m a big fan of the first two Deadpool movies, I’m a lukewarm fan of all those Fox X-Men movies, and I’m a huge fan of the MCU movies, so I went into Deadpool & Wolverine very excited. The movie only sort of disappointed.

Movie Rating: 8/10 – Very Good

Yep, I’m one of those people who didn’t completely and absolutely love Deadpool & Wolverine. I’ll obviously explain why in the thoughts below, but mostly the abundance of cameos/Easter Eggs did not outweigh the crummy story/plot. I thought the performances were great and had fun with the cameos, but they alone do not make a movie — especially since some were either already spoiled for me months ago or some were just predictable.

A surprise cameo just isn’t very fun when my reaction is, “Oh OK, so they went with him/her, gotcha.”

At any rate, let’s get this review underway! Join me after the jump for my full review and thoughts on Deadpool & Wolverine. Expect FULL SPOILERS for the whole movie and all the cameos/Easter Eggs. And feel free to share your own thoughts in the comments below.
