Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 10/12/24

This is a big week for comics! It’s the launch of DC’s new Absolute Universe line of books! Do they live up to the hype? You’ll have to read on and see!

Comic Book of the Week is Absolute Batman #1, because yeah, it totally lives up to the hype, for the most part.

Behold his new weapons!

Meanwhile, a bunch of good comics came out this week, but a lot of them were mid storyline or I haven’t been reviewing them regularly, so I didn’t add them to this already sparse list. Ah well. Beyond that, I’m still very much enjoying The Penguin and Agatha All Along, and have finally started watching the second season of The Rings of Power. So I’d say I’m in a good place. May finally try to beat Star Wars: Outlaws this weekend.

Comic Reviews: Absolute Batman #1 and Exceptional X-Men #2.

I Am Very Excited for Thunderbolts*

The first official teaser trailer for the Thunderbolts* movie arrived like lightning today, and it looks pretty awesome! I saw a pirated version of this when it was released at Comic-Con (or D23?) and it looks even better as a real trailer on my real phone.

I am excited for this movie! I do not hide my MCU apologies or love for the franchise still, and this looks awesome! Take a bunch of random side characters from the past few movies and shows and team them up Avengers-style! It helps that I very much like all these characters, especially U.S.Agent and Ghost. I’m so thrilled they’re bringing back Ghost! It would have been so easy to never hear from her again, but this is a perfect place for her!

It looks funny, it looks full of action, and it looks like Florence Pugh will easily carry the whole darn thing. David Harbour as Red Guardian is also no slouch in the fun department.

Thunderbolts* comes to theaters next May.

And in terms of the asterisk, I’m in the camp that believes the movie will be “Dark Avengers” by the end.

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 9/21/24

It’s apparently X-Men week in my comic reviews! The only comics I ended up reading and reviewing this week are parts of From the Ashes. And they’re all good comics! So I’m thrilled to read the likes of X-Factor and X-Men.

Comic Book of the Week goes to Dazzler #1 because it’s a near perfect debut for a comic I feel like I manifested out of pure hopes and dreams.

Going for the classic outfit

Meanwhile, I’m still enjoying Star Wars: Outlaws. I’m stretching it out nicely so that I don’t need to worry about getting a new game anytime soon, though the endgame is drawing closer. Fun stuff. I loved the first two episodes of Agatha All Along, and the first episode of The Penguin. So things are really darn good these days, pop culture consumption wise.

Comic Reviews: Dazzler #1, X-Factor #2 and X-Men #4.

My 6 Favorite Multiple Man Comics

As I’ve mentioned multiple times on this blog, my all-time favorite comic book character is Jamie Madrox the Multiple Man. I discovered him just as I was getting into comics in the early 1990s — which is about when he achieved his first real taste of prominence — and his style, unique powers and sarcastic sense of humor solidified him as my guy.

Take that, Wolverine!

This week, the first issue of the new Dazzler mini-series is coming out from Marvel Comics, and it will feature Multiple Man in a supporting role. Writer Jason Loo has been on quite the journey at Marvel since bursting onto the scene with his own love of Multiple Man, and I can’t wait to read Dazzler to see what he does with the characters in an actual, published comic (Loo has been doing great work with Madrox in the digital only Infinity comics).

To honor this new comic with Multiple Man in a supporting role, I decided to rank my favorite comics that have featured Multiple Man as a main or supporting character! Just for funsies, really.

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 9/14/24

It’s another lazy week for me and comic book reviews. Just a pair of comics to check out, both of them more than good and both showing off a lot of potential. So that’s fun!

Comic Book of the Week goes to Uncanny X-Men #2 because I liked it just a little bit more than Avengers Assemble #1.

Everybody meet some of the new mutants!

Meanwhile, i’m still enjoying Star Wars: Outlaws. It’s a fun game. A solid 7/10 from me. It’s not as polished or as deep as I would love, but I’m enjoying the surface level open world and mission structure. The perfect sort of game to just play and enjoy to kill the time I dedicate to video games each week.

Comic Reviews: Avengers Assemble #1 and Uncanny X-Men #2.
