6 Thoughts On Trying to Recapture the Magic of an Old Final Fantasy Game

I finally beat Final Fantasy 9 last month after roughly 13 years. It was an unremarkable experience. Not 13 continuous years of trying, mind you. I borrowed the game from a friend way back in my college days, but the first disc was scratched and the game crashed only an hour or so into it. I didn’t try again until last summer when Final Fantasy 9 was released on Steam.

Steam is the great uniter

I played for a bit last summer, but gave up out of general boredom. Thankfully, the gaming spirit grabbed me again this winter and I powered through the rest of Final Fantasy 9, finally sending Zidane and company up against the evil Kuja to save…I wanna say Gaia? Was that the name of their planet? Anyway, I beat the game, recaptured my lost youth and now I’m gonna talk about it!

6 Thoughts On The LEGO Batman Movie

I’m not going to call it the best Batman movie ever made, but Yeehaw, The LEGO Batman Movie is a hoot! Fun, funny and full of Batman-themed hijinks and Easter Eggs, the new sequel is mostly everything you could want from a follow-up to The LEGO Movie — and we’ve still got a proper sequel to that coming down the line!

The LEGO Batman Movie is quality Batman entertainment on a level we just don’t get to see very often. That makes it something special indeed.

Movie Rating: 8/10 – Very Good.

The bar has now been set pretty high for the rest of the year full of superhero movies. It’s not insurmountable, but The LEGO Batman Movie was still a blast! It was so good, and I do so enjoy this style of humor, that I’m even considering watching their upcoming Ninjago movie. Hopefully the party doesn’t stop anytime soon.

6 Things I Want to See in the Runaways TV Show

Fancy that, there’s going to be a Runaways TV show! Marvel announced the teenage cast last week, making it pretty darn likely that the show will really come to Hulu in the near future. Runaways has been in consideration as a movie for a long time, but a TV show might be the best bet! It’s not Neflix, but it still works.

Once upon a time, they were kings and queens of the comic world

I was a fan of the Runaways back in the day. They’re a really great idea and the characters will fit nicely into the Marvel Universe. The story has twists, romance, craziness and plenty of good stuff to make a TV show. No doubt pre-production is already underway, but I’d like to think the Marvel Studios people read my blog excessively to get some ideas!

The 6 Best Pig Superheroes Who Have Skin in the Game

The Super Bowl is this weekend and, therefore, I wanted to do a List of Six to mark the occasion. But considering I’ve already done a list of sports-themed superheroes, what was I supposed to do next? I don’t know sports ball!

But I do love me some bacon, ham and pork chops! Which all come from a wonderful, magical animal!

I never cared for Spider-Pig

Get it? Pig superheroes? Footballs are nicknamed ‘pigskin’? It fits. Trust me, it fits. And like most good animals, there’s a healthy number of porcine-based comic book characters. So in honor of all the Super Bowl tailgating parties this weekend, join me after the jump for all the best oinkers!

6 Best Male Derivative Characters in Comics

This past weekend, millions of women from across the world marched in solidarity to show everybody that they mean business. Were I not such a lazy schlub of a man, I would have joined them. I regret not going out and marching. But I do have a blog! And I’ve decided that the best way to honor those women is with a list about men!

But not just any men! These are the only male comic book characters derived from female characters! I’m both surprised and not surprised that there are so few.

derivative-list-01

Sort of like this

Female derivative characters are all over the place in comics, and they’re usually great characters in their own right. You’ve got Batwoman, Batgirl, Supergirl, Superwoman, She-Hulk, the new female Thor, the new female Iron Man, two different Spider-Women; but there are almost no characters of the reverse. Where are the male characters who derive from the original female superheroes?

They’re on this list! What few I could find! Join me after the jump to celebrate the female characters awesome enough to get male knock-off versions!
