6 Things I Want to See in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has been out for five weeks now, and so far, opinions are mixed. I think everybody can agree that the show is well put together, but a lot of my friends and online critics are waffling over whether or not it’s any good. Personally, I’m liking the show, but I can recognize that it’s not very exciting yet. It’s mildly entertaining at best. If this were just a normal procedural and not connected to the Marvel Universe, I probably would have stopped watching a long time ago.
But for exactly that Marvel connection, I’m not about to give up on it anytime soon. This is a weekly, live action TV show produced by Joss Whedon about the Marvel Universe. That is a sentence that none of us thought possible only a few short years ago. Other than a Firefly revival, what else could we possibly want from a Whedon TV show? So I’m sticking with Agents of SHIELD without regret. We’re only five episodes in, so that’s no time to judge the overall quality of a show. But just because I’m me, here are six suggestions for improving Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD.
6 Marvel Characters Who Deserve Their Own Solo Series
I love it when comic book companies put creativity and diversity over commercialism, and the New York Comic-Con this past weekend proved that Marvel Comics still has their head on straight. Whereas it would make the most financial sense to just publish comics about Spider-Man, Wolverine, Iron Man and the Avengers, Marvel instead revealed a whole host of new series dedicated to exploring lesser known and less marketable heroes.
But I think they could add a few more names to their upcoming catalogue.
Solo series are very hit and miss in today’s comic book market. The heroes that have been around forever – like Spider-Man, Captain America, Hulk, etc. – have no problem maintaining their own comic, even multiple comics. But it’s very hard for a new solo series to take off. For every success like Hawkeye or Deadpool, you’ve got dozens of cancelled comics like Scarlet Spider, X-23, Gambit, Moon Knight and more. I applaud Marvel for giving characters like Silver Surfer, Iron Patriot, Loki and Black Widow a try, even if cancellation is a distinct possibility. And here are six more suggestions for characters who deserve the spotlight, even if only for a little while.
6 Best and 6 Worst Child Superhero Halloween Costumes
It’s that time of year again! Kids, costumes, candy, scantily-clad women at parties I never get invited to; the works! I love Halloween. It might just be my favorite holiday. I love the pageantry of everybody willingly dressing up in costumes as if it were the normal course of business. I love kids going trick-or-treating. I love college students wearing full costumes to class. I love bringing a mask to work and wearing it to freak out receptionists. The whole holiday is just one big, festive free-for-all! And here at Henchman-4-Hire, I’ve developed a Halloween tradition of rating the best superhero Halloween costumes on the market. First I did the women, then the men, and this year it’s superhero costumes for kids!
There are tons of superhero costumes out there for kids these days, but a geek like me is very specific in what I’d be willing to put on my spawn (if I had any). Some professionally-made costumes actually have skill and effort put into them. They actually look like the superheroes they’re supposed to be. Other professionally-made costumes are a joke, slapped together to sell to unsuspecting parents and nothing more. In this day and age, accuracy counts!
So join me after the jump for the 6 best and the 6 worst superhero Halloween costumes for children!
6 Things I Want to See in a Flash TV Show
Following the success of the Green Arrow TV show – and really, who could have seen that coming? – Warner Bros. and The CW have announced hopes to make a spin-off about the Flash, the fastest man alive. They cast actor Grant Gustin as the Scarlet Speedster only a few weeks ago, and he’s already filming a few episodes of Arrow Season 2 to build up his character and get him ready for his own pilot.
I’ve said it before: we are living in a Golden Age of superhero entertainment.
I consider myself a fan of the Flash, even though I’ve rarely ever read his comic. I love the idea of the character, I love the costume, I love the powers; the Flash can be a really cool guy. I think he’d make for a fantastic big screen movie, but who am I to argue with Warner Bros. decision to make a TV show instead? I really liked the first season of Arrow, so I have high hopes for the Flash – I also have some suggestions (or demands, depending on how you look at it).

6 Best GTA Easter Eggs in Grand Theft Auto V
I love Easter Eggs in video games. They’re fun, friendly and a great way for game developers to wink at their fans. And the good people at Rockstar love Easter Eggs just as much as me, filling their franchise games with Bigfoots, UFOs and – best of all – references to their other games.
Grand Theft Auto V has been out for a week now, and fans are checking every nook and cranny for the best Easter Eggs. The ones I love the most are the references to previous GTA games. I love the feeling of each game existing in this larger, shared universe. So like the giddy gamer I am, I’ve gathered together the six best crossover cameos in Grand Theft Auto V!
