Batgirl Has Got Some Cool New Threads!

Current Nightwing artist Bruno Redondo has redesigned Batgirl’s costume for new, upcoming storylines! Batgirl gets costume redesigns all the time. I’m a particular fan of the Burnside costume. And this new outfit seems to be a combination of Burnside and Classic.

Redondo is doing great works on the Nightwing comic, with writer Tom Taylor. It’s fluid, smooth and drop dead gorgeous artwork. His Tim Drake Robin has been especially wonderful.

So I look forward to where this costume will show up! Reportedly new costumes are coming for Stephanie Brown and Cassandra Cain as well, creating a trio of Batgirls. We’ll see where that goes.

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 6/26/21

Pretty average week for me, all things considered. Thankfully, we’ve got some good, solid, enjoyable comics! Mostly. The Hellfire Gala has some strong chapters, and that’s mostly about it.

Comic Book of the Week goes to S.W.O.R.D. #6 for the powerful, character-based, emotional Hellfire Gala issue I’ve been waiting for! This one finally shows what all the big moves have been about!

Because even you like good comics, Doctor

Meanwhile, at long last, several years in the waiting, I am finally playing Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. My favorite types of video games are the big, open world sandbox adventures, and this is supposedly the best of the all. But I didn’t own a Nintendo Switch. Now I do and the game is great. I might be playing this all summer!

Also, Heroes Reborn ended in a fun way. It all led to a big fight, as these things usually do. But this was definitely one of my favorite of the recent Big Events. I don’t read them all, but this one had some real charm and, as I’ve been saying all along, it had that sweet Amalgam Comics vibe that I love so much!

Comic Reviews: Detective Comics #1038, Power Rangers #8, Robin #3, Wolverine #13, S.W.O.R.D. #6 and Way of X #3.

New Shang-Chi and Suicide Squad Trailers!

This was a great week for movie trailers! Two of the biggest upcoming superhero movies decided to just thrill us with some brand new trailers this week. Seriously, out of nowhere, Marvel dropped a new trailer for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings just last night! Where did this beauty come from?

I won’t spoil everything we just saw in that trailer, but holy cow! I don’t think anybody saw that cameo coming! That should be an exciting moment! And we got some stronger, fuller looks at the Ten Rings themselves, and Shang-Chi. All of that looks great to me!

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings comes to theaters on Sept. 3, just in time for my birthday!

Next up is a new trailer for The Suicide Squad by James Gunn. I thought we had plenty of trailers for this film, but this new one is great, too!

Interesting new details for Idris Elba’s Bloodsport…though it does seem he really is just a rebooted Deadshot. We’ll see when the movie comes out. Should still be fun. And King Shark might just be the standout character of this movie. Can’t wait for this one either!

The Suicide Squad comes out on Aug. 6!

Behold the Sequel Shazam Family!

Shazam! 2: Fury of the Gods is currently filming, and director David F. Sanberg has decided he’s not going to let set leaks ruin all the big, cool reveals of the new movie. Specifically, the redesigned costumes of the Shazam family! Behold the crew!

As others have pointed out, only the ladies are showing more skin

Everyone looks good! The family was one of the best parts of the first film, so I’m glad to see they’re all coming back. And the costumes look dope. Here’s hoping the sequel is pretty fun!

Shame it won’t come out until June 2023. That’s two whole years away!

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 6/19/21

Want to hear something funny? I missed my own 10-year blogging anniversary! It happened back in April and I had no idea because I don’t keep track of that sort of thing. I thought I was on year seven or something. But nope! Ten years of writing nonsense day in and day out. Thanks for reading!

Comic Book of the Week goes to Nightwing #81 for another fine issue, but featuring a moment that truly stands out as something special and heroic.

Not this moment. This just makes for a good picture

Meanwhile, Heroes Reborn is building to a fitting conclusion! I’ve really enjoyed this Big Event, for once. Makes me wish I’d been reading Jason Aaron’s Avengers all along. I like his work. I forget why I stopped. The man did almost kill Stingray…

Comic Reviews: Nightwing #81, Static: Season One #1, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow #1, Planet-Size X-Men #1, New Mutants #21 and X-Corp #2.
