Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 2/10/24
It’s Super Bowl Weekend! And I’m probably instead going to go see the movie American Fiction in an empty theater. It’s supposed to be pretty good. I also had a fun time reading comics this week, like the new Ultimate Black Panther and the new ThunderCats!
Comic Book of the Week goes to Sensational She-Hulk #5 for another very fun, character-based issue. I love what I love, and sometimes She-Hulk really delivers.
Meanwhile, still playing Super Mario Bros. Wonder, still having a ball. It’s a fun, simple game, which is what a traditional Mario game should be. I spent the past week watching all three seasons of Slow Horses on AppleTV+, and that show was good, solid entertainment. I hope Gary Oldman was having fun.
Also, if you haven’t seen yet, the latest volume of my self-published comic — Gamer Girl & Vixen — is coming to Kickstarter on Monday! I would love your support and I’ve no doubt you’ll love my comic!
Comic Reviews: Birds of Prey #6, Captain America #6, Sensational She-Hulk #5, ThunderCats #1 and Ultimate Black Panther #1.

James Gunn and Warner Bros. are full speed ahead on their relaunch of the DC Cinematic Universe, and I’m all for it. I might be a Marvel Zombie through and through, but I love all comic book companies equally. Plus I really love James Gunn’s superhero movies. He makes hugely entertaining movies, and I can’t wait to see what he’s cooking up.
Gunn announced the casting of Milly Alcock this weekend as the new Supergirl. He’s also announced characters like Metamorpho, Hawkgirl and the Creature Commandoes as showing up. And considering the obscure nobodies he put into his Suicide Squad movie, I think it’s fair to say that Gunn likes obscure characters. I also like obscure characters! So I’ve put together a list of obscure DC heroes and villains I’d like to see somewhere in the new DCU. I don’t care where, and I don’t care who plays them; I just want to see these awesome people show up somewhere!
Join me after the jump for the six obscure DC characters I’d love to see on the big (or small!) screen in the new DCU. And feel free to share your own characters in the comments below!

James Gunn and DC Comics continue their attempts to build a new cinematic universe, and they just announced the casting of Supergirl this weekend. She’s going to show up in the Superman: Legacy movie, and then get her own film, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.
It’s Milly Alcock from the Game of Thrones prequel!
I have yet to watch House of the Dragon, so I can’t speak for Alcock’s acting or character presence. But I have the utmost faith in Gunn pulling off this movie and this whole universe. Should be a lot of fun.
Meanwhile, I still need to read the actual comic, Woman of Tomorrow. I read the first few issues when they came out, but then I fell off. I bought the tpb and just haven’t gotten to it yet. I have some time before the movie comes out, right?

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 1/20/24
What a great week in comics! If you didn’t see already, I’m ramping up my own self-published comic output this year with some Gamer Girl & Vixen web comics. Check them out! And more announcements coming soon! Meanwhile, we’ve got some solid regular comics too, like Superman and the first issue of Cobra Commander!
Comic Book of the Week goes to Wonder Woman #5, because even the place-setting issues of this series are great! It’s nice to see that Yara Flor is still around.
Meanwhile, I’ve settled into some nice, comfortable monotony with Project Zomboid, even though I’ve been reading to hang it up for a while now. It keeps me entertained, and that’s what matters. I just like pedantry in my games. I spent a whole afternoon in this zombie game just mowing the overgrown lawn of my safehouse.
Comic Reviews: Avengers: Twilight: Book One, Cobra Commander #1, Superman #10 and Wonder Woman #5.

Happy New Year, everybody! It’s 2024 and all is still pretty crappy with the world. It’s hopefully going to be a good year for me in terms of making comics. I’ve got some fun announcements coming up in that regard! But for now, let’s deal with normal comics, like Batman, Fantastic Four and the start of the Fall of the House of X.
Comic Book of the Week goes to Birds of Prey #5 for another fun story chapter, even if the change in art is very, very jarring.
Meanwhile, I’m still meandering my way through Project Zomboid, which taps into my love of pedantry in video games. I just finished off the new season of Rick and Morty, and that was a hoot! And this weekend I’m binging Carol and the End of the World on Netflix. I’ve got high hopes for this show.
Comic Reviews: Batman #141, Birds of Prey #5, Captain America #5, Fall of the House of X #1 and Fantastic Four #15.
