The Greatest Power Rangers Retcon of All Time Now Involves a Second Dragonzord

My mind is reeling. The latest issue of Go Go Power Rangers from BOOM! Studios came out this week and has delivered what might be the greatest Power Rangers retcon of all time. Even bigger than the Omega Rangers reveal from a couple of months ago. This is a perfect retcon. This is “Sinestro Corps” levels of perfection in that this retcon makes perfect sense and fits seamlessly into existing continuity.

And it involves a second Dragonzord that was right under our noses the entire time!

Honestly, toy shots are the best Power Rangers pics on the web

If you don’t want to be spoiled about the latest development — and it is so good to have Power Rangers comics back! — here is your chance to stop reading. But if you want to have your mind blown just as wildly as my own, click on!

6 Characters Who Don’t Need Origin Stories

Last week, the big announcement came down that filmmaker George Miller is going to make a Mad Max prequel starring Furiosa, telling her origin story. I think this is a bad idea. Furioda arrived in Fury Road fully formed and had a very compelling, very well-done story arc over the course of that movie. Furiosa doesn’t need an origin story.

A lot of different characters don’t need origin stories.

Origin Story List 01

Deserves a sequel, not a prequel!

What’s the Furiosa origin story going to be? She’s kidnapped from her home and is forced through very ugly circumstances until she reaches the point that she’s a hardened nerve of a human being? Are we going to see the harrowing scene where she loses an arm? Surely Immortan Joe did terrible things to her. Do we really want to watch that? Especially since Charlize Theron won’t be returning. She got to introduce one of the greatest female protagonists in the history of Hollywood, but to follow up, they’re going to recast the part and show us all her ugly, abusive moments? Why not a badass sequel?

Furiosa would have topped this list prior to last week. But since we’re doomed to that prequel, here are six other characters who do not need origin stories.

I Got Blurbed Again; This Time on Iceman!

I’ve been reviewing comic books on this dinky little blog for many, many years now. And while this has not yet catapulted me to fame and fortune in the industry, it is nice to occasionally be acknowledged.

Like how my thoughts on Sina Grace’s Iceman comic made it onto the cover the last tpb volume!

Iceman Cover Blurb

I never know when this happens. It always comes down to me just buying comics that I like and finding out that I’m on the cover that way. It happened with Spider-Woman and Power Man and Iron Fist. And now Iceman! The comic was great, I now own all three volumes and I am tickled pink that they used one of my reviews to blurb on the cover.

Now I just need to meet Sina Grace and hope he isn’t too bitter about his treatment from Marvel to sign my copy…

Also, yes, that’s totally a Gamer Girl & Vixen bookmark! I still have some leftover if anybody wants one.

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 5/23/20

Comics are still working their way back into our lives, with bigger and fancier release dates promised in a couple months. For now, I’m making due with what comes out that I actually want to read. This week, none of my usual comics came out. And I didn’t feel like catching up on all five issues of Hawkeye: Freefall.

So I checked out the second issue of Lost on Planet Earth from Comixology Originals! And I didn’t care for it. It’s got all the makings of a good comic, but the execution is failing me.

Lost Planet Earth 04

Awk-ward!

Meanwhile, what else am I doing? I finished a reread of Batgirl of Burnside after buying up all the tpbs. It’s still good, and I’m enjoying her arrival in the Harley Quinn cartoon (which is amazing!). She-Ra and the Princesses of Power delivered an awesome finale. Solar Opposites was pretty good. And I didn’t care for Scoob! And that’s my quarantine life!

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 5/16/20

What’s this? I have more than one comic to review this week? And were I a more diverse man, I’d have a bunch of comics?! The industry is slowly coming back to life with a pile of new digital releases this week, and I was able to catch up on two of my pre-pandemic favorites: Ant-Man and Lois Lane!

It’s not particularly fair to award Comic Book of the Week this week, but I’mma gonna give it to Ant-Man just because I liked that issue better than the other one I read. Both were good comics though. Good enough, at least.

Ant Pam Dies 01

Pam, we hardly knew you

Meanwhile, I continue to busy myself day-to-day with bouts of XCom 2 and Days Gone in video game world. I’m smashing my way through one TV show after another, be it DuckTales, Harley Quinn, Rick and Morty, Dead to Me or, this weekend, the final season of She-Ra and the Princesses of Power. I also finally caved and splurged on some LEGO to keep up my spirits. Stay safe out there, everybody!

Comic Reviews: Ant-Man #4 and Lois Lane #10.
