Hench-Sized Comic Reviews – 3/7/20

Ugh, what a crummy week. I came down with a cold out of nowhere and just wasn’t feeling very jazzercised to read through a stack of comics. I did make it through some, like Batman, Ms. Marvel and even Marauders! But my thoughts on this week’s comics are probably muddled from the cold.

Comic Book of the Week goes to Doctor Doom #6 because it’s an issue where Doctor Doom and Kang the Conqueror, both in full regalia, go on a cross-country road trip and shoot the breeze about a lot of fun topics.

Doom Kang Dads 02

That’s comics!

Meanwhile, I finally read Spider-Man: Life Story and it was good. I wasn’t blown away, but the story had a lot of really good ideas, and it handled the main plot of Peter Parker aging really well. Solid idea, solid execution, but nothing that’s going to really stick with me in the long run.

Also, I’m only now learning I missed out on Strange Adventures #1! Ugh. I wasn’t even paying attention to when it actually came out. I’ll have to grab it for next week.

Comic Reviews: Batman #90, Doctor Doom #6, Lois Lane #9, Magnificent Ms. Marvel #13 and Marauders #9.

Check Out the New Batsmobile!

The Batman is definitely a movie that’s happening. There’s no stopping it at this point. We’re going to get a new Batman movie. There’s no sign of Robin, yet, but check out this cool new Batmobile. Director Matt Reeves shared this pic and others on his Twitter yesterday. I like the grounded, realistic, muscle car look.

We’ll have to make our peace with no wings

Reeves is definitely really good at building hype for his movie. We’ve seen the Batsuit, now the Batmobile, so surely he’s next going to tease the Robinsuit…right? Right?!

6 Thoughts on the First Season of Harley Quinn

Good golly, Miss Molly! The Harley Quinn cartoon show was an absolute delight! I had high hopes for the series after seeing the first few trailers. Then the show captured me from the very first scene of the very first episode! A sharp, visceral cartoon that wasn’t afraid to be vicious, while also telling a very good, character-focused story.

Harley Show List 01

TV Rating: 10/10 – Fantastic!

The Harley Quinn cartoon ran for 13 episodes on the DC Universe streaming service, with the final episode airing this past Friday. The next season is right around the corner in April, and I am thrilled! Harley Quinn is a hard R-rated show that doesn’t skimp on the violence and language, while making sure to use all of that to be funny and smart. It’s a triumph of well-written humor, voice acting, storytelling and more! Not every episode was a masterpiece, and there were some poor choices here and there, but overall, this first season was phenomenal television!

Join me after the jump for my thoughts and full review on the first season of Harley Quinn! Expect FULL SPOILERS for the season!

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 2/22/20

Welcome to my random page of comic book reviews! I do this every weekend, because I love comics and I love stories. This week I look into new issues of Batman, Marauders, New Mutants and more!

Comic Book of the Week goes to Wonder Twins #12, the wrap-up to my favorite comic series of the past year! This was such a wonderful series, and Mark Russell and Stephen Byrne stick the landing with class and heart.

Wonder Twins Goodbye 01

Superman already knows!

Meanwhile, I checked out the first issue of the new Wolverine series but have decided not to do a review. It’s a triple-sized beast of a comic and it’s fine, but my review would mostly be summed up as, “Yeah, these are some fine Wolverine stories.” Nothing really blew the lid off the place in Wolverine #1, unless you count this possible reveal of a new Multiple Man costume! I feel like this should be bigger news across the comic book media landscape.

Comic Reviews: Batman #89, Legion of Super-Heroes #4, Marauders #8, New Mutants #7, Runaways #30 and Wonder Twins #12.

Batman Has a New Costume; I Don’t Like It

The Batman has started filming. The movie with Robert Pattinson in the lead role and a whole bunch of villains is going to happen. I’m all for it! I like a good Batman movie. And director Matt Reeves gave us our first look at the new Batsuit last night.

I don’t care for it.

It looks almost exactly like every other modern Batman costume. It’s all hard, thick armor and normal human eyes. I’m not saying I need him to be wearing spandex or anything, but maybe a happy middle ground? Maybe something new and creative?

Ah well, life is what it is.

No word on Robin as of yet…
