Do You Love the Marvel Movieverse? I Know I Do!
Marvel Studios, being generally awesome, has put together a massive, 5-minute-long trailer for all of their movies to date. I’m not sure why – other than synergy with Guardians of the Galaxy – but who doesn’t love a reminder that the Marvel movies have all been awesome? Did you hear that Guardians of the Galaxy had a $94 million opening weekend? That’s way above predictions! The film is a hit! Go Marvel!
Good times! Now go see Guardians of the Galaxy again!

Change. Change Never Changes. The Next Marvel NOW!
Guess what! Marvel Comics has a bunch of awesome plans in store for all of their most popular characters! And for a few of their upcoming movie stars! They’re setting up their third Marvel NOW! wave, and personally, I think it all looks pretty neat. Check out this lineup!
The Amazing Avengers? Invincible Avengers? Irredeemable Avengers?
If you haven’t heard yet, we’ve got female Thor and the fact that Sam Wilson, the Falcon, is taking over at Captain America. I’m a big fan of that idea. Cap with wings? Bring it on! The Winter Soldier is getting a new series, where he becomes the protector of Earth. Deathlok is getting a reboot to bring him closer to his TV counterpart. And Marvel is still trying desperately to make Inhuman happen. See that flaming guy in the picture there? That’s Inferno, the new Inhuman. He and Medusa are the stars of the comic Inhuman, which has published all of 2 issues so far. If Marvel is really serious about making the Inhumans a force to be reckoned with, they are failing terribly.
Seriously, Inhuman is terrible. Inferno should be ashamed to be in that group picture.
Also in that picture, you can see Ant-Man and Doctor Strange, both of whom have upcoming movies on the Marvel slate. I’m excited for both, and if Marvel can get both heroes their own comics, that would be a blast. Marvel is doing great things with comics these days. I’m dying for a quality Ant-Man comic.

Iron Man is suddenly big into testing
Tony Stark will be moving to San Francisco, where he plans to implement some darker, tougher technology upgrades. Tony’s going a little dark. Good for him.
I don’t know about you, but all of this looks great to me. Maybe I’m just really into Marvel these days. I know that’s the truth. They can do little wrong in my book. I have always been a Marvel man, and the various Marvel NOW! campaigns have been comic book gold. So you better believe I’m excited to get my hands on some of these new books.
This is going to be the year of the Ant-Man!

First Official Sneak Peek at Avengers: Age of Ultron
Entertainment Weekly continues to be a magazine in circulation, and they have landed the first official look at Avengers 2: Age of Ultron! I used to love that magazine in high school in the swinging late 90s. So good for them at this pretty awesome scoop. Check out this cover, with our first real look at Ultron himself!
He looks pretty gnarly. And Captain America and Iron Man look pretty cool too.
You can check out an early sneak peek at the Avengers 2 interview at their website. It gives a lot of details on the plot, so be careful of spoilers, and talks about a few of the new characters. You can check out a few pictures by clicking here, including an official look at Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch, as well as a possible surprise superhero cameo. Or you can just wait for the actual magazine, because people still apparently buy those. Right now, I’m legitimately considering it.
I Still Believe in Ant-Man
Don’t get me wrong, it is a tragedy that director Edgar Wright stepped away from the Ant-Man movie because Marvel Studios tampered with his script. I love Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, and taken as a whole, the Cornetto Trilogy is among my Top 5 movies of all time. And if you haven’t seen Wright’s TV show Spaced, then do yourself a favor and find it, because Spaced is glorious. Wright is a comedic genius, as far as I’m concerned, and I was looking forward to his Ant-Man film more than Joss Whedon’s Avengers 2.
But in life, we don’t always get what we want, and even the world of silver screen superheroes can be bitter and heart-breaking.
But I have not given up on the Ant-Man movie. I still have some big expectations for that tiny little dude.
Spider-Man who?
Last week, Marvel announced that director Peyton Reed had signed on to take over from Wright. Reed has had success with comedies such as The Break-Up and Yes Man, neither of which anybody remembers. However, according to the Interwebs, both have made more money than any of Wright’s films, so the world is just a screwed up place to begin with. Director Adam McKay, of Will Ferrell and Anchorman fame, will help out with the script. Though it remains unknown if Marvel is going to start over from scratch with the script or if they’ll use Wright’s original script and just tweak it to fit what they want.
Based on the movie synopsis, also released last week, it sounds like they’ll just be tweaking.
Armed with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, con-man Scott Lang must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym, protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats. Against seemingly insurmountable obstacles, Pym and Lang must plan and pull off a heist that will save the world.
That synopsis sounds awesome. That’s exactly what I want the Ant-Man movie to be about.
So after all of that drama, it looks like Ant-Man is finally coming together. I still think Paul Rudd is going to be amazing as the lead, Scott Lang, and Michael Douglas should provide more than enough gravitas to Hank Pym.
For some reason, though, a lot of comments I read about this news were that people weren’t going to bother to see Ant-Man now that Wright is gone. First of all, shame on me for reading Internet comments from angry nerds to begin with. That’s never going to end well. (Other than comments on my blog, which are some of the smartest, handsomest, prettiest, most well-thought-out comments on the web!). But second of all, why would anyone think Ant-Man is going to be terrible without Wright?
I’ll be the first to say that Wright was probably going to make an amazing movie. But Marvel Studios has not let us down yet, movie after movie. And they’ve lost directors before and still produced amazing films. Losing Wright is a terrible loss. But Marvel have more than earned our trust.
Ant-Man is going to be great. But maybe now I’m looking forward to Avengers 2 just a little bit more…
Fantastic Foul: Why I Believe the F4 Comic Controversy
If you haven’t heard, the latest rumor circulating the comic book blogosphere is that Marvel plans to put their Fantastic Four comics on hiatus while FOX Studios limps into making their new Fantastic Four reboot. The idea is that Marvel and Disney executives don’t want to give the rival studio any help whatsoever in building a new franchise off of one of Marvel’s properties. The website Bleeding Cool kicked off the rumor mill last week, claiming inside sources at Marvel gave them the tip, and citing evidence from sketch card artists who had been told to steer clear of any F4 related characters.
Marvel Big Wig Editor Tom Brevoort has so far been the only Marvel guy to respond to the controversy, giving it a firm denial.
But here’s the thing: I totally believe Bleeding Cool’s story. I don’t have any special insight, I don’t know any more than anybody else about this whole shebang, I just really think it’s possible that some Marvel/Disney executive might be petty enough to cut off the company’s nose to spite its face.
Executives are the true super-villains
I know I’m just another Internet idiot with a blog, and you’ve got no reason to believe anything I say. But this is turning out to be a pretty big deal, and I figured I had some time to spare to write up my own thoughts. A lot of people seem to be siding against Bleeding Cool and their scoop, and that’s fine. Everybody’s free to their opinion.
But I think Bleeding Cool might be on to something here.
