Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 10/26/24
What an interesting week for comics! We have a ton of first issues this week, whether brand new series or just the start of a big new run by a new creative team. Stuff like Tom Taylor on Detective Comics or a new Iron Man.
Comic Book of the Week goes to Absolute Wonder Woman #1 for another awesome alternate reality reboot. I hope Superman is just as good when it comes out!
Meanwhile, I saw Venom: The Last Dance this week and hated it! What a garbage movie! I was able to find something to enjoy in the first two, so I haven’t been a total Venom movie hater. But man, this third one was a real stinker on every conceivable level. I’ll post my full thoughts/review sometime next week. Other than that, Star Trek: Lower Decks is back on the air, so awesome. And I’ve started playing Baldur’s Gate 3 again. Good times.
Comic Reviews: Absolute Wonder Woman #1, Dazzler #2, Detective Comics #1090, Iron Man #1 and Superman #19.

The TV show Severance on AppleTV+ is pretty damn amazing. It’s so tense, well-written and just plain awesome. And it’s been a few years, but we’re finally going to get a much-anticipated second season! And we’ve finally got our first trailer for that second season! But DO NOT watch this trailer unless you’ve seen the entire first season, because there are some BIG SPOILERS in this trailer that you won’t want ruined.
This looks great! I don’t want to say too much because, again, I don’t want to give away any of the twists or turns or surprises of the first season. Only can say that season 2 looks full of new twists, turns and surprises! Seriously, Severance is a great show if you want quality intrigue, mystery, dark humor and strong acting.
Severance season 2 comes to AppleTV+ on Jan. 17.

One Last Look at New Arcane!
Arcane is coming back for it’s second and final season next month, and the world is excited. The first season was ground-breaking television and all levels of awesome. So one imagines a second season — with the promise of a solid wrap up — could be even better! How will that be possible? We’ll find out!
Anyway, here’s a new season 2 trailer! No major twists or spoilers, other than general trailer stuff.
Looks awesome! Looks like Arcane! Looks like we’re all going to have a good time in November.
God, I hope so…
Arcane returns to Netflix on Nov. 9, with three episodes per week again, I think.

Another Look at Creature Commandos
New York City Comic-Con was this past week end and we sadly didn’t get many cool new trailers! We know that Daredevil: Born Again will come out in March, but they haven’t publicly released the trailer! Shame! One trailer we did get was a new look at the Creature Commandos cartoon from James Gunn and DC! So that’s exciting enough.
I think this show looks great. I love the work of James Gunn, loved his Suicide Squad, loved his Peacemaker, so I’m fully on board for this zany cartoon that will — possibly — bridge all these shows and movies? It’s definitely kicking off the new DCU, so there’s that. But until then, it’s just gonna be a zany cartoon, and I’m down for that as well!
Creature Commandos comes to MAX on Dec. 5.

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 10/19/24
Here we are in the middle of October and nothing to show for it but some comic book reviews. Oh well. This week sees the first issue of Mystique and the last issue of Tom Taylor’s Nightwing, among other things.
Comic Book of the Week goes to Wonder Woman #14 because I feel like this comic is on a whole different level and it’s not fair to the other comics I’m reviewing.
Meanwhile, I beat Star Wars: Outlaws, and I posted my review/thoughts this past week. The game won’t be missed. In the aftermath, I’ve started getting back into Baldur’s Gate 3. A lot of clean-up patches have come out since I last played a year ago (finally saw the epilogues!) and I’ve decided to maybe finish off a character I dropped and start a new one with a friend. Should be fun.
Comic Reviews: Mystique #1, Nightwing #118, Ultimate Spider-Man #10 and Wonder Woman #14.
