Free Guy Looks Pretty Cool

We’ve got both the new Jumanji and Star Wars films coming up, so there’s been a whole mess of new trailers for big projects coming down the pipe. I love trailers, so I’m pretty thrilled! And you all get to see them shared by me!

Like this trailer for Free Guy, the new Ryan Reynolds movie in which he’s an NPC in a video game who realizes what’s going on.

Looks pretty good! I trust Ryan Reynolds movies these days, even if I can never trust screenwriters to truly understand how video games work. This game looks like a Grand Theft Auto Online type of game, so hopefully they can’t mess that up.

Free Guy comes out on July 3.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife is Real and Happening!

I liked the recent, all-women Ghostbusters reboot. I understand a lot of criticism it received, but I was entertained while watching in the theater. But Hollywood and fandom are fickle, and now comes a proper Ghostbusters sequel, pegged as the long-awaited Ghostbusters 3!

But numbers aren’t chic anymore. Modern sequels are all about the subtitle! Behold, Ghostbusters: Afterlife!

I like it! I like the grounded, serious vibe. I like the mystery and the reverence. I like Paul Rudd. Is he going to become a Ghostbuster? That would be sweet. I’m a little surprised we didn’t get any original character cameos. Are those going to be smaller roles? Maybe they want the movie to stand on its right now right.

It definitely stands on its own in this first trailer! I liked it a lot.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife comes out on July 10.

I’m Not Sure What’s Happening in This New Wonder Woman Trailer

The Wonder Woman sequel is on the way! Wonder Woman 1984 is just around the corner, and it’s first trailer has arrived out of nowhere! And I’m not entirely sure what the movie is about!

We’ve got Steve Trevor back from the dead and getting confused by the 1980s. We’ve got Cheetah not being a cheetah. We’ve got a really weird looking Maxwell Lord. And we’ve got Wonder Woman using her lasso to swing from lightning bolts! I bet that was an exciting pitch in the Wonder Woman 1984 scripting process!

I’m still going to get my hopes up for a good movie! Wonder Woman 1984 comes out on June 5.

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 12/7/19

How cool was that new Black Widow trailer this past week? We’re on the verge of entering a new round of superhero movies! I can’t wait! Thankfully, plenty of good comics to read until then, including Batman, various X-Men and Lois Lane!

Comic Book of the Week goes to Green Lantern: Blackstars for an utterly hilarious takedown of DC Comics. Grant Morrison is creatively savage.

Blackstar Superman 01

This panel isn’t a good example, it’s just a good picture for above the fold.

Meanwhile, even though I gave up reviewing Magnificent Ms. Marvel, I’m still reading the comic. And I’m pleased to report that — SPOILERS — that stupid new costume of hers has turned out to be evil. Thank the stars!

Comic Reviews: Batman #84, Doctor Doom #3, Excalibur #3, Green Lantern: Blackstars #2, Lois Lane #6, Marauders #3 and X-Men #3.

Here’s a Couple of Fun TV Trailers!

I’d been meaning to share these trailers at a nice, normal pace. But then more and more trailers for upcoming TV shows just kept coming out! So now I’m just going to throw them all at you people like some sort of madman!

First up is the trailer for the first new episode of Doctor Who is more than a year. The show returns on New Year’s Day.

Looks good to me! I was lukewarm about the first season with Jodie Whittaker. I thought she was great, but the writing and the stories and the overall season left a lot to be desired. So I’m going to get my hopes up that this new season will be even better!

Next up is the trailer for the second season of Lost in Space on Netflix!

I enjoyed the first season a lot and I’m really looking forward to season 2. Now I just have to try and remember what happened in the first season. I just know that I liked it and that it was very well made.

Season 2 arrives on Dec. 24.

It’s gonna be a really good streaming season this month. One show after another is going to arrive, and hopefully I’ll be able to watch most of them before I do my annual list of my favorite TV shows of the year. Sucks that so many good shows are arriving this month though!
