Mario Through the Ages, Animated
The Super Mario Bros. Movie was a whole thing. It was super popular. I thought it was fine. It could have been more, but it was otherwise fine on its own. One thing is for sure, though: Mario has a lot of iterations and adaptations over the years. And Tell It Animated is on the case!
Good times! I watched a ton of those Mario cartoons back in the day. The Lou Albano stuff? You’re damn right! And this video has it all. I love Tell It Animated. He’s a great channel and he does great work. And now he’s opened himself up to video game characters. My top pick for his next cartoon is still Robin, but if we’re talking video game characters…Sonic the Hedgehog is the next obvious choice. Plenty to work with.
Master Chief. Pac-Man. Metroid. Maybe Final Fantasy protagonists? Tell It Animated shall never die!

My 6 Favorite Super Mario Power-Ups
The Super Mario Bros. Movie is here and it’s hopefully fun! I’ll be going to see it tonight after work and I have high hopes. It looks colorful and wonderful and full of energy and character. Will Chris Pratt’s voice be as bad as we’re all fearing? Will this kick off a whole new cinematic universe? The only way we’re going to know for sure is to get out and watch the film. And write Mario-themed listicles, of course.
It’s a simple list this week. I already did a list for what characters I want to see show up in a post-credits scene. I’m hoping at least one of those comes true and blows my little mind. So how about a nice, easy list of my favorite power-ups in the entire Mario Bros. franchise? Everybody loves power-ups! And surely everybody has their favorites! This isn’t a comprehensive list of the objectively best power-ups of all time. Nope! This is all about me and my personal tastes in power-ups, and a trip down my own personal Mario memory lane. I’ve been playing these games since the original Super Mario Bros. on the NES, so I’ve seen almost everything!
Join me after the jump for my favorite Super Mario power-ups! And feel free to share your own in the comments below!

The Super Mario Bros. Movie is on its way and they’ve treated us to one last trail ahead of the big premiere. This one is really bonkers, throwing all sorts of Mario stuff at the screen, from power-ups to the glory of Mario Kart. Clearly the filmmakers just wanted to pack as much Mario as possible into their Mario movie. Sounds fun to me!
Short, sweet, and still full of bad voice acting. This is the first time we’re hearing Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong and…it’s just Seth Rogen. And Chris Pratt’s Mario remains terrible. Alas. But I’m hopefully going to be able to put that aside to just enjoy a wild and crazy Super Mario Bros. Movie. Bring it all on!
The Super Mario Bros. Movie comes to theaters on April 5.

6 Characters Who Need to Appear in The Super Mario Bros. Movie Post-Credits Scene
The Super Mario Bros. Movie looks pretty dang cool. Chris Pratt’s voice acting aside, the size, scope and attention to detail we’ve seen in the trailers so far is pretty amazing. From King Koopa invading the icy penguin kingdom to Mario Karts riding eternal on the Rainbow Road, I am loving the approach they’re taking to this movie. They’re keeping things cartoony, while taking the lore very seriously. As the pop culture geek that I am, I like that approach.
So how far are they willing to take it?
It can be assumed that the filmmakers are hoping for a while franchise. That’s how movies work these days. And there is 40-some years of Mario Bros. mythology to draw from. We saw Yoshis, fire flowers, Donkey Kong and Mario Kart in the trailers so far, imagine what else might be hiding in the movie. Or, better yet, imagine who they’re saving for a post-credits scene? Will the movie have a post-credits scene? Obviously I have no idea. But imagine the possibilities! Imagine who they could draw from to throw into the film. Post-credits scenes are still hugely popular, and the sky is the limit for The Super Mario Bros. Movie!
Join me after the jump for six suggestions for that crucial, post-credits, sequel-teasing cameo.

Following the tepid release of the teaser trailer — and Chris Pratt’s disappointingly mediocre voice acting — we now have a full-sized trailer showing off a ton of the movie. And it honestly looks like a big cameo fest. You won’t believe what they manage to squeeze into this movie…or maybe you will, because we’ve all played Nintendo games for decades now.
I still think the movie, as a whole, looks great. They seem to be making a big, expansive movie that puts all the Mario video game lore into this huge, glorious context. Different worlds, including Kong Country? Neat! Yoshis moving in herds? Fascinating! Go-karts?! Why not! I really love the scope we’re getting in this movie. I hope the movie can live up to that scope.
And hopefully Chris Pratt comes through in the end.
The Super Mario Bros. movie comes out on April 7.
