6 Thoughts on the First Season of The Flash

With the first season of The Flash TV show complete, I think we can all declare that live action superheroes, complete with comic book craziness, are the new amazing. Arrow started small and kept things simple, but The Flash threw caution to the wind and burst out of the gate with everything from the Speed Force to Gorilla Grodd to a real, comics accurate costume!

That’s some mighty fine running!

I really enjoyed the first season of The Flash, and I’m very excited to see where they go next year. It wasn’t my favorite comic book show this year, but The Flash is nonetheless an accomplishment. It proves to audiences and executives that these sorts of superheroics can be amazing. The Flash wasn’t dark, grim or gritty like the DC movies, it embraced the friendlier, more colorful aspects of the character, and we all benefited.

So like I’ve done for other comic shows, I wanted to share my thoughts with you all on the first season of The Flash. I’ve got more than a few nitpicks. Join me after the jump! And beware of SPOILERS!

Legends of Tomorrow: And Just Like That, Nothing is Ever the Same Again

One day after the Supergirl trailer hits, we’ve got our first full look at Legends of Tomorrow, the oddly not-named Justice League show spinning out of Arrow and The Flash. This is a real trailer, more than three minutes long, showing everybody in action against the forces of Vandal Savage.

I don’t think television is ever going to be the same again.

I mean, come on! This is a full-on superhero team TV show, featuring time travel, the Atom, resurrections, big fights, Firestorm; this is insane, right? This can’t really be happening? This can’t really be a real TV show that we all get to watch and enjoy?

Granted, it looks cheesy as hell, but they’re making cheesy work on The Flash. I don’t see any reason why this can’t be as amazing as we all want it to be. I even have some ideas!

Though I still want to know how they justify not having the Flash or Green Arrow on the team.

Hawkgirl is Going to Be a Real Thing in that Justice League Show!

Holy wowzers, this is cool news! Remember that live action Justice League-esque show that’s going to spin off from The Flash and Arrow? Well apparently The CW has gone ahead and cast Hawkgirl, of all characters! Hawkgirl is going to exist in the Arrow-verse!

According to Deadline, she’s going to be played by up-and-coming actress Ciara Renee.

She looks like Hawkgirls oughta look

I’ve never heard of her, but Deadline has good things to say. Her character will be Kendra Saunders, and they’re going with the origin that she has been reincarnated several times, and now has wings! She’ll be joining the Atom and Firestorm on this new team show. I say she’s a solid addition. Hawkgirl has always had a lot of momentum behind her since the cartoon days, and seeing her in live action could be pretty cool. The world has definitely figured out how to make big, angel wings look awesome on TV. Just look at Constantine.

6 Things I Would Want in a Justice League TV Show

Rumors and news tidbits have been swirling for a few weeks now that Warner Bros’ next live action superhero show is going to be a team effort. We’ve already heard that Firestorm, Atom and Captain Cold have been tapped to appear (along with Sara Lance, for some reason), and casting notices have teased a few more characters.

Something is definitely in the works. Could it be a live action Justice League TV show?

It’s been done

Considering how much I love Arrow and The Flash, I can’t wait to see what else this DC brain trust can produce! I’m excited for Supergirl and Vixen, and the idea of putting together a ramshackle Justice League TV show sounds pretty amazing. That Flash/Arrow team-up last year was great television. If DC and The CW can turn that energy into a whole TV show, they’ll have another hit on their hands.

They’ll also have a hit if they follow my advice after the jump!

6 More Potential Shows for the Arrow-Verse

Word hit the Internet this week that not only will the superhero Vixen be joining the same TV universe as Arrow and The Flash, but that producers are considering the Atom for their next spin-off. Clearly the people at Warner Bros. can recognize success, and they want to bank as much as possible on their winning superhero formula. Marvel is building a shared superhero universe in the movies, so it looks like DC is going to do the same on TV.

I’m all for it! I love both Arrow and The Flash, and I would love to see more heroes jump to the small screen. I think I’m even more excited for the potential of a small screen Justice League than I am for whatever big screen version that Warner Bros. is trying to develop.

This is totally gonna be a thing!

Beyond Arrow, The Flash and the new Vixen cartoon, there’s also talk that upcoming shows about Supergirl and the Teen Titans will be part of the same universe (or at least there were, stupid CBS!). Clearly DC shows no sign of slowing down. But what other shows can they produce?

This is one of my favorite List of Six games, and I invite all of you to join me in coming up with some great ideas. What other superheroes could get shows to tie into the Arrow-Verse? The only rules are that they must fit the aesthetic of the Arrow-Verse, so super-powers are OK, but keep things grounded and gritty. And they can’t be Superman, Batman or Wonder Woman, because the universe is still partially a terrible place, and those characters are apparently only going to appear in the movies.

So join me after the jump to see my ideas. And join me in the comments to share some of your own!
