I Need Help – From the Ninja Turtles!

Despite being mostly broke and trying to fund my own comic book, I found myself splurging yesterday on some new action figures. I couldn’t really afford the splurge, but I did it anyway. I think I need help you guys…from the Ninja Turtles! Because who else is going to kick Bebop and Rocksteady’s butts for me!

Now I know what you’re thinking: Sean, why would you buy action figures? And you’re right, it’s a dumb waste of my money. I’m pretty sure I have a problem…with the Foot Clan! Oh man, you guys, they are some of the baddest dudes out there! And Bebop and Rocksteady are their primary enforcers. This is definitely a no-win situation for me!

Sadly, those pictures are the promotional images found off the web. The actual figures I randomly found at Wal-Mart don’t look that well-put-together, making this even more of a dumb purchase. But what can I say? I’m kind of stupid…in love with the Ninja Turtles! Cowabunga!

Everything Wrong With the New Ninja Turtles Movie

I stand by my general enjoyment of the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie, but Cinema Sins had to go there.

That movie deserves to be torn apart! But like I said, I generally enjoyed it. The Ninja Turtles were my favorite cartoon as a Young Sean, but I’m savvy enough to know that there will always be new Ninja Turtle adaptations. Heck, I really love the current Nickelodeon cartoon, and I’m fairly certain the old 80s cartoon does not hold up. So if Michael Bay and friends want to make a few modern day Ninja Turtle movies, I say more power to them. I’ll still get a little kick out of all of them.

And someday, there will be even new cartoons, movies and comics.

Remind me to tell you henchies someday about my perfect Bebop and Rocksteady origin story. It’s genius.

Honest Trailers: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

I still mostly enjoyed the new Ninja Turtle reboot. I went in with an open mind and liked this new take on my favorite Turtles. The simple thing to remember is that there are so many different versions of the Ninja Turtles out there. One shouldn’t get their panties in a twist just because Michael Bay gets to make his version. Give it another 10 years and we’ll have a new cartoon, new comics and new movies. You’ll see!

Dorkly is Doing Cartoons Again!

Anybody else visit Dorkly, the one-stop shop for all things dork? It’s a pretty neat website, and they’ve finally started doing original cartoon shorts again!

Dorkly, in association with College Humor, made some of the funniest geeky and video game-themed video shorts a few years ago. They’re some of the best you’ll find on the web. But they stopped, and a light went out in my life. Now it seems they’re back! And on Youtube, so I can share! Let’s make this sort of thing go the viral. Kids are still saying that, right? Or at least ad execs are?

6 of My Fictional Mary Sues

I make no bones about my life as a young fan fiction writer. I am actually quite proud of the work that Young Sean churned out at such a young age – even if I can rarely bring myself to go back and read the stories I wrote. You can check them out at FanFiction.net. Those stories laid the groundwork for the Sean you know today.

And one of the things I loved more than anything else was creating my own Mary Sue characters in popular fiction. Though back then, I had no idea what a ‘Mary Sue’ even was.

Nope, that’s Mary Jane

According to TVtropes.com, Mary Sue is the derogative term for an original fan fiction character inserted by the author into an already popular series, usually to serve as some kind of wish fulfillment. Mary Sues typically have dramatic backstories, awesome names, unique looks, and more often than not, upstage the main characters. For example, say you wrote a Harry Potter fan fic and inserted your own original Hufflepuff wizard, and the story was all about how your wizard fell in love with Draco Malfoy and turned him into a good guy with the power of love. It’s that sort of idealized character inserted into pre-existing stories.

I don’t think I was ever that bad, but I loved creating my own original characters for all my favorite cartoons and movies. Join me after the jump to take a look at just a few of them, and feel free to share some of your own in the comments! No judgement.

Also, as Google has revealed, I was not the only person in the world to come up with these exact same ideas. But I was young, and the Internet wasn’t a thing yet, so forgive me if some of these ideas aren’t 100% unique or original. They were to me at the time.
