Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 3/25/17
Everything is backwards! The Iron Fist TV show came out last week, but the new Iron Fist comic comes out this week. The Power Rangers movie comes out this week, but the new Power Rangers comic came out last week! You’d think people would figure out better synergy.
Light week of reviews this week for reasons that will ever perplex me. Why do all my favorite comics come out in the same week? Still, we’ve got some greats, including Hulk, Detective Comics and the final issue of Prowler!
Comic Book of the Week goes to the final issue of Unworthy Thor because writer Jason Aaron is able to dig even deeper into a character he has so thoroughly mastered.
He’s got that crazy look in his eyes!
As for the stuff I mentioned earlier, I enjoyed the Iron Fist TV show, despite its obvious flaws. And loved the Power Rangers movie! It was great! Go see it this weekend!

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 2/25/17
Oh man, you guys, have I got some big news for you! This is news that has been building since I first started this blog a million years ago! I’m going to reveal this news tomorrow and it’s going to blow all your minds!
Until then, comics! Like Hulk and Prowler and Mosaic! And I’ve even decided to start reading Steve Orlando’s Justice League of America, replacing the Teen Titans as the DC team book I’m reading.
Comic Book of the Week was a tough one to decide. At first I was going to give it to the new issue of Detective Comics, for an exciting issue. But then I read Spider-Woman and my heart melted all over again. Dennis Hopeless has done an amazing job on this comic!
Bad guys beware!
Meanwhile, Inhumans vs. X-Men continues to plod along in its desperate attempt to make sure everybody comes out of it smelling like roses. Do not recommend.

Everybody Lives! (At Least the Characters I Care About)
The final issue of The Clone Conspiracy landed in our laps this week and it was actually pretty cool! The last issue was probably the best issue of the event. It had excitement, tension, team-ups, funny bits and a deep and abiding use of some of Spider-Man’s strongest relationships.
And best of all, my favorite characters are still alive!

For now, I enjoyed The Clone Conspiracy for the most part, especially this final issue. But the problem with The Clone Conspiracy is that it was more idea than actual story, and even then, not a very clever or original idea. Basically, the Jackal comes back, clones a bunch more people, and when Spider-Man refuses to join him, he threatens to kill everybody. Spidey and his allies then flip a switch and the day is saved.
The event was mostly characters explaining the idea to Spider-Man, with a few twists and sub-plots peppered into inflate the running time.
Like I said, it was fine. Not writer Dan Slott’s best Spider-Man event, but I enjoyed it all the same.
Now then, who gets to live?
Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 1/28/17
Comics! I love’em. You love’em! We can’t live without’em! And here’s another big stack of reviews for comics I read this week. Kind of fun how I keep doing this.
Lots of good reading options this week, from Infamous Iron Man to the new Hulk series to my return to the Pink Ranger mini-series. There are so many good comics to choose from these days. Including and especially the new issue of Spider-Woman, which easily wins Comic Book of the Week due to another impressive, emotional issue.
Does Janice know some twerp is stealing her Beetle guise?
Though I’m not going to lie to you: Spider-Woman #15 is crazier than I could have ever guessed.
I’ve also figured out the worst part about Inhumans vs. X-Men: the unintentional villainy of Ms. Marvel. I’m clearly with the X-Men on this one. The Inhumans are monsters who are comfortable with either killing or deporting every mutant on Earth. Since she’s an Inhuman, Kamala Khan gets drafted into the Inhumans’ side with the new issue, and it’s repugnant. That Kamala would so cheerfully and excitedly join the side in favor of genocide is just wrong. But here we are.

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 12/31/16
Here we are at last, on the final day of 2016. This accursed year has done much to destroy the human spirit and crush all our hopes and dreams. But I say that dreams never die! I plan on making 2017 the best year ever! And we can start with a nice, big pile of comic book reviews to end out the year.
We’ve got so many comic reviews, too! I had some extra time on my hands this week, so I read and have reviewed a ton of books! We’ve got great comics, like Infamous Iron Man and the new Hulk! We’ve got middling books, like Ghost Rider and Prowler! And we’ve got not quite good books, like Teen Titans!
But Comic Book of the Week goes to a stellar Spider-Woman, as writer Dennis Hopeless shows everyone the pure awesomeness of carefully constructed and executed character drama!
This day, we punch!
The final issue of Civil War II also came out this week, and just as we all feared, it was a bunch of sound and fury, signifying nothing. Captain Marvel and Iron Man duke it out and nothing really comes of it. Tony is taken off the table, Ulysses literally just disappears, solving that crisis, and pretty much every comic has already moved on to their new ongoing storylines anyway. So yeah, this thing was a big stinker.
