6 Things I Want to See in a Nova Movie

The internet being what it is, rumors have started to percolate that Marvel is planning a movie about Nova, the Human Rocket. There is absolutely no confirmation of this. But I think I saw a Nova movie as a possibility mentioned on at least two different websites, so that prompted me to think up a list of everything I’d like to see in a Nova movie! That is how the internet works for me, after all.

Nova Wanna See 01

It’s not human rocket science

I fell hard for Nova during Annihilation, as I’m sure many people did. I had zero interest in the character during his New Warriors days or anything before Annihilation. But then Marvel turned that teenage nobody into a champion of space! He was a young but grizzled hero trying to hold together an army of cosmic cameos to repel an otherworldly invasion. Nova was just damn cool. And a Nova movie could be a lot of fun, especially with the Nova Corps already established in the MCU.

Join me after the jump for what characters, concepts and stories I’d like to see in a Marvel Nova movie!

First Look at Nova Costume!

Marvel Studios indisputably confirmed this past weekend that the Nova Corps would be in Guardians of the Galaxy, which means that someone must have read my List of Six about the things I want to see in the movie. Nova Corps was #2 on my list. So I am very, very excited about this confirmation.

For those who don’t know, the Nova Corps are intergalactic space cops. Using the rocket-like power of the Nova Force, they patrol the cosmos ensuring law and order. They’re pretty much a knock-off of the Green Lantern Corps from over at DC Comics, but something tells me Guardians of the Galaxy is going to be a much better movie than Green Lantern. Just a hunch.

Unfortunately, as excited as I am to see the Nova Corps on screen, I am less than thrilled at their costumes. Join me after the jump to see the uniforms in all their glory!

Glenn Close as Nova!?!

In what has to be the weirdest casting news out of Marvel ever, frequent Academy Award-nominee Glenn Close has been cast as the leader of the Nova Corps in next year’s Guardians of the Galaxy. It’s nice to know that someone is reading my blog, but they definitely took things to a whole new level.

Seriously, Glenn Close…

Will be playing one of these guys…

Nova Corps

The news comes from, who said actors like Hugh Laurie, Ken Watanabe and Alan Rickman were in the running for the role. So clearly Marvel and director James Gunn had a certain type in mind. Does Close fit that type? Most definitely. Will she be great in the role? I really, really think so. This could be the brilliant sort of casting that really makes the movie.

For those who don’t know, the Nova Corps are a big, intergalactic police force in the Marvel Universe. Two human members of the Nova Corps, Ritchie Ryder and Sam Alexander, have been the stars of their own comic books. But neither one has so far been cast, that we know of. In the Guardians of the Galaxy movie, I’m going to assume that the Nova Corps represent the big, stuffy police department while the Guardians are the scrappy, devil-may-care A-Team operating outside the law.┬áSounds like a good dynamic to me.

Oh, also, John C. Reilly is in talks to play another member of the Nova Corps. Neat!
