6 Thoughts on the First Season of Lanterns (Review)

The first season of Lanterns has come and gone and it’s turning out to be pretty controversial online — at least in the circles I frequent. Lots of ‘Surf Dracula’ talk. People upset that there wasn’t more Green Lanterning. You know how the internet can be. Well I’m here to deliver my personal opinion and review on the first season of Lanterns!

TV Show Rating: 8/10 – Very Good

I liked it a lot! I will admit that my grade did go down a level from when I started writing this list until after watching the finale, but I’m not one of the people who hated the finale. I thought it was a solid ending to a solid show, which stuck to its intended tone and story all the way through. Surf Dracula? Maybe. Does that bother me? Not with Lanterns, not really. But I’ll get more into the nuance later. The important thing is, we have a Green Lantern TV show and there’s going to be more in the future!

Our First Look at TV’s Green Lanterns

Yesterday, James Gunn shared our first look at Hal Jordan and John Stewart from the upcoming Lanterns TV show. And I think they look great! Kyle Chandler looks awesome as Hal, and Aaron Pierre is a wild kind of intense.

I am fully on board with this being a more grounded show. We saw what a CGI heavy Green Lantern was like on the big screen. So I’m fine with making a grounded, Earth-based detective show in which the main characters also wield these power rings, and occasionally go into space. There’s definitely a way to balance it all, and my faith in James Gunn remains unwavering, even though I know he’s not making Lanterns.

I like this look! And we better get a crossover with Guy Gardner at some point during the first season, is all I gotta say.
