Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is Just Doing All Of It

A live action Sonic the Hedgehog movie is a surefire franchise now. Multiple movies, an upcoming spin-off TV show; Hollywood has grabbed the meager success of the first movie and they’re running with it into pure madness. Despite this success, they hired a pretty terrible trailer-making company.

That movie trailer stank. It was all over the place, full of nonsense, and not particularly catchy. But then I don’t imagine the movie is going to be all that special. It does feature a live action Knuckles voiced by Idris Elba, though, so I’m torn. Will my obscure love for this random — and awesome! — video game character carry me through this sequel? We’ll find out soon enough!

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 comes to theaters on April 8!

Epic Doctor Strange Trailer Leads a Bunch From the Super Bowl!

The Super Bowl came and went last night and my hopes and dreams were crushed once again. I am a lifelong Cincinnati Bengals fan, and they have never won a Super Bowl. They came within one minute of winning last night, and it was dashed. Such is life. Thankfully, I don’t care about football, and only really care about new movie and TV show trailers!

First up is a brand new, totally bonkers trailer for Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness! Holy cow, this trailer is beyond crazy.

I don’t even want to begin to speculate what we’re going to see. There’s a ton of spoilers and leaks out there on the web, and I’m trying my best to avoid them. But just from that trailer around, this movie looks hella bonkers and I am 100% here for it! Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness comes to theaters on May 6.

Next up is a new, short spot for the Moon Knight TV show.

This still looks good. I’ve never been a big Moon Knight fan, so I’m not as hyped or pumped as other viewers. But I’m definitely going to watch to see what’s in store. The Moon Knight costume is slowly winning me over, step by step. Moon Knight arrives on TV on March 30.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is coming and I am hesitantly excited about this one.

I didn’t care for the first movie. It was more just generic live action cartoon cliche than it was a Sonic movie. But the sequel features both Tails and Knuckles. I have been a fan of Knuckles since I was a wee boy, and he appears to be incredibly awesome in this film. Like, it’s blowing my mind that this badass Knuckles the Echidna is showing up in a movie and everybody is excited. So we’ll see! Sonic the Hedgehog 2 arrives in theaters on April 8.

Then we’ve got Nope, the new horror film by Jordan Peele.

Looks freaky and scary, so it should be a good time. I guess it’s about an alien invasion? Nope stands for “Not of Planet Earth” maybe? Either way, should be a good time at the movies! Nope arrives on July 22.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is Just Going For It!

I wasn’t much of a fan of the first live action Sonic the Hedgehog movie. I suppose it was fine, but it also largely just nestled up against a bunch of “live action cartoon adaptation” tropes. Just wasn’t for me. But now the sequel is on the way, and it’s got Tails and Knuckles, so I’m in!

Knuckles is one of my all-time favorite video game characters, and he looks awesome in this trailer! Voiced by Idris Elba and getting one really amazing line, Knuckles is gonna steal the show, baby! This trailer looks like Sonic 2 is ready and willing to go whole-hog into the lore and the characters. I can get behind that sort of madness.

Tails is also cool.

My 6 Favorite Villains Turned Heroes

I talk a lot on here about one of my favorite tropes in fiction: the Heel-to-Face Turn. Or, to drop the wrestling parlance, when a bad guy becomes a good guy. I just dig it for some reason. I like the idea that these villains, albeit bad people who do bad things, are still reasonable people who are capable of more than just playing their villainous role. When the chips are down, or when doing the right thing is on the line, these baddies turn out to be alright folk.

Heel Face List 01

The granddaddy of them all!

For counter example, I don’t particularly like the Joker. I know he’s probably the most popular super-villain in all of comics, and people adore this guy, but I just don’t really like him. I don’t like his straight crazy villainy. There’s little complexity to the character. He’s just crazy and he does crazy things; clever crazy things, sure, but still just crazy things. Count me out.

Give me a morally complex figure who can recognize the error of their ways or recognize the need to do the right thing in a given situation. Join me after the jump for my favorite Heel-to-Face Turns in all of fiction!
