Pixar is Just Cranking Them Out Now!

We already know that Onward is coming out next year from Pixar, but now we’ve also got Soul! Perhaps Pixar is going back to meaningful, non-sequel movies. I have hope.

Though that cowboy dance at the end isn’t very heartening. Must even Pixar reduce themselves to silly nonsense comedy? Leave that to the Arctic Dogs of the world.

Soul comes out on June 19.

The Mandalorian is Only Two Weeks Away!

The first episode, at least. The Mandalorian is a pretty exciting incentive to purchase the Disney+ streaming program. My family and I are going to get a subscription and have a whole host of shows and movies to watch!

And with the Marvel shows a year away, The Mandalorian is probably my most anticipated watch!

Looks cool! The main character seems badass, his team seems cool and Werner Herzog seems a good choice for moody narrator. And holy cow, those production qualities! Is all of that real? Finally, Disney is doing something really good with all of their money. You want to get people to sign onto your streaming service? Spend millions to make the most ambitious television show of all time!

The Mandalorian and Disney+ arrive on Nov. 12. Remind me to call my brother to get the log in details.

There Are Few Things I Want More Than For Elsa to be Gay

World peace would be nice and all, but I want Disney to use their power and clout to make Elsa gay in Frozen 2. I’ve written about this before, but there’s a new Frozen 2 trailer that doesn’t contradict these hopes and dreams for the world.

I mean, come on. Let it happen. I fully respect the idea that Elsa doesn’t need a love interest. But everybody loves a good romance. And Elsa should be gay. I want Disney to make it happen. I want Disney to use their massive entertainment empire to stare back into the eyes of every bigot and religious nutjob out there and tell them: Let it go.

Also, magical flames in Frozen 2? Surely there’s an awesome fire-magic lady out there to partner up with Elsa’s ice-magic.

And surely we can note that the trailer is being intentionally vague about the origins of that magic fire and what lies in the enchanted forest. Love interests and romance are a big part of Disney movies, but none of the trailers so far even hint at such a thing for Elsa. So either Disney isn’t going to go down that road for arguably their most popular princess in years…or they’re keeping it a secret!

I’m just gonna hold on hope for awhile.

The Mandalorian Looks Pretty Sweet!

The first trailer for The Mandalorian — the first ever live action Star Wars TV show — was  unveiled the other night at the D23 Disney convention. It looks pretty darn sweet!

I’m excited for this show. I’m excited for most things Star Wars. I am that exact sort of fanboy who is going to gobble up any and all of this nostalgia-driven new material. Obi-Wan Kenobi TV show with Ewan MacGregor returning to the role? Hell to the yes!

Dusty, badass TV show about a lone bounty hunter dressed in Mandalorian armor? You’re goddamned right I’m getting Disney+!

Black Knight and U.S. Agent are Coming to the Marvel Cinematic Universe

There was a bunch of cool Marvel Cinematic Universe news this weekend at the D23 Disney convention. We now know that Black Panther 2 is coming out in May 2022, for example. And there were some more Eternals cast members named.

But coolest news for me is that Kit Harrington has been cast as the Black Knight in the Eternals movie, and Wyatt Russell has been cast as U.S. Agent in the Falcon and the Winter Soldier TV show!

Black Knight Harrington 02

How cool is that?

US Agent Russell 01

I am loving the fact that so many nifty, smaller Marvel characters are getting cast to actually appear in things. Like David Harbour as the Red Guardian in the Black Widow movie.

Black Knight is an ancient knight from King Arthur times, who wields the Ebony Blade. Harrington is playing Dane Whitman, the modern day incarnation of the Black Knight. He is a longtime Avenger in the comics, though a minor character by far. He should be cool.

I’m more excited about U.S. Agent.

For those who don’t know, the U.S. Agent was the government’s replacement Cap when Steve Rogers abandoned the role back in the 1980s. He’s more of a company man than Rogers, often going to extremes to follow orders and be a good government boy. And it makes total sense in the MCU for the government to want their own replacement Captain America, and to not just let Sam Wilson take over because Steve Rogers said it’s OK.

I hope to see U.S. Agent as a friendly antagonist, someone how is opposed to Falcon and Bucky, but is still on the side of the good guys in the bigger picture. And perhaps they all have to work together in the end to take on Baron Zemo.
