6 Other 90s Kids Show That Deserve a Movie Adaptation

There’s going to be a Power Rangers movie, you guys! Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers was the show of shows when I was a kid in the 90s! I watched it every day after school. I still consider the Green Ranger one of the greatest heroes of all time. And I have nothing but fond memories of Zordon, the Black Ranger, Lord Zedd and all the rest of those multi-colored knuckleheads. I don’t know if this movie is going to be any good, but my fuzzy memories will never die.

I recall the costumes being plainer

This Power Rangers movie has also got me thinking: have we finally moved on to adapting 90s kids’ shows into live action, realistic movies? Are the 80s already tapped out? We’ve had movies for the Transformers, G.I. Joe, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Jem, and I know a new He-Man movie is in the works. The 80s have given us many good to blah movie franchises, but their well of quality kids’ shows is not infinite. Is it time to move on to the 90s?

Good thing I watched kids’ shows back then too, and I’ve got some solid suggestions for Hollywood!

6 Characters I Can Blame For the Common Cold

Ugh. Is there any worse feeling than trying to shake the last days of a cold? Probably, but for me right now, there definitely isn’t. I’ve been battling this bug for days now and I just want my nose to work properly again! Is that too much to ask?!

Help me, monster!

At any rate, as with all things that crop up in a given week, I’ve decided to turn my cold into a List of Six! So I scoured the world of pop culture to find six characters, good and bad, who revel in disease and infection. It’s not going to be pretty. You might want to have a box of tissues handy before joining me after the jump!

There Should Have Been a Heart Village in The Last Airbender

Of all the elements and their equivalent continents in Avatar: The Last Airbender, there should have been a Heart Village. Tucked all the way down in some corner of the world, maybe on an island all of its own, the Aang Gang should have run into some heart-benders for an episode.

The Power of Love!

This is a silly idea, I know, but I think it’s one of my better fan ideas.

The four elements of Avatar: The Last Airbender are Earth, Fire, Wind and Water. They even call it ‘earth-bending’ instead of dirt-bending, rock-bending, ground-bending or anything else. And we don’t even know if their planet is called ‘Earth’. But does the phrase ‘Earth, Fire, Wind and Water’ sound familiar to anyone else?

Ma-Ti was always the coolest one

Exactly!

It would have been the greatest geek reference in the history of television. A Captain Planet Easter Egg in the middle of Avatar: The Last Airbender.

And there is still time with Legend of Korra.

Ma-Ti Never Got Enough Respect

All the others got to control some kind of element, but with the power of Heart, Ma-Ti could control people and animals. That’s more badass than people give it credit for. At least these guys recognize the awesomeness of Ma-Ti and the Planeteers! It’s a live action fan-made trailer for  modern day Captain Planet movie. And it is a thing of brilliance.

How cool was that? Those people at Altermotion Media Entertainment did one hell of a job. Even the Captain Planet costume looked awesome, and I’m sure that was hard to pull off.

I used to watch Captain Planet all the time, and I liked it when I was a kid. I thought the characters were cool, the concept was pretty fun, and I didn’t care about all the preachiness about cleaning up the environment. I just liked the superheroics. Captain Planet and the Planeteers is ripe for a grittier kind of reboot. Take it seriously, give it the strength and intelligence of modern day cartoons. It could be a hit!
