Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 10/7/23
This was a crazy week for comics! New, highly anticipated comics, like Transformers and G.O.D.S.! Big comics like the new Batman! So many comics that I had to skip some of those I enjoy just to fit them all in during my week!
Comic Book of the Week goes to Birds of Prey #2 for a really stylish issue that does a lot of really cool things with art and color.
Meanwhile, I enjoyed the final episode of Ahsoka, though the series overall was rather disappointing. Thankfully, the first episode of Loki season 2 was a hoot! So the shows just keep coming. And Cyberpunk 2077 is as fun as I remember, though it’s not all that different from the first time I played at launch. Still generally fun.
Comic Reviews: Batman #138, Birds of Prey #2, G.O.D.S. #1, Transformers #1 and X-Men #27.

I’ve got to get through one more week or work before I’m on vacation for a while ‘nother week. I cannot wait! Just gotta pass the time, do what needs to be done and hopefully come out the other side free and clear. Having comics helps, like the first issue of a new Shazam! relaunch and another enjoyable Scarlet Witch comic.
Comic Book of the Week goes to Batman #900 because I’m not made of stone and can enjoy some crossover hijinks as much as the next fan.
Meanwhile, I’ve been playing the DLC to Horizon: Forbidden West and the biggest problems is trying to remember what everything does. There are so many unique weapons and abilities in this game, and I haven’t played it in a year. But the real big news, of course, is Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3! I saw it, I loved it and I’ll have a full review and my thoughts in the usual place on Wednesday.
Comic Reviews: Batman #900, Scarlet Witch #5 and Shazam! #1.

Happy Easter, everyone! I’ll be heading home to get a meal with the parents and whatever extended family show up. That’s always fun. Even if it comes right in the middle of my 3-day weekend. Oh well. It’s always nice to have Monday off. And it’s always nice to get some quality, generally good comics this week, like Batman, Captain America and even more Saga.
Comic Book of the Week goes to Scarlet Witch #4, which remains a really fun, engaging and magical comic.
Meanwhile, I’m still chugging through Gotham Knights. The fights are a real chore, so I’m not all that attached to the game. But I’m gonna make it through, I’m gonna do all the good Robin stuff! And I’m eagerly awaiting the new Chaos Dwarves DLC to Total War: Warhammer 3, my game of the year from last year. And I liked the Super Mario Bros. Movie, even if it was pretty basic. No Sonic the Hedgehog cameo, like I was hoping for.
Comic Reviews: Batman #134, Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty #11, Saga #63 and Scarlet Witch #4.

If you’re reading this, I’m already on vacation! I’ve got a week off from work and I plan on kicking back and just relaxing. Is it a coincidence that I timed my vacation for the release of both God of War: Ragnarok and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever? Nope! Not a coincidence at all!
Comic Book of the Week goes to Batman #129 for a high energy, action-packed issue. It’s a bit weaker than previous issues of this run, but it’s still a fun read. Needs more Robin, though.
Meanwhile, like I said, I’m on vacation. I haven’t decided whether or not I’ll buy Ragnarok yet, since I’ve only got a Playstation 4 to play it on. And because Pokemon Scarlet and Violet come out the week after. I don’t need to be spending $100+ on video games in a single month, you hear me? So we’ll see what my week of relaxation will feature.
Comic Reviews: Batman #129 and She-Hulk #7.

What a gorram week. It was my birthday this past Tuesday, and what did I get? A real nasty cold! The worst cold I’ve had in years. Was it COVID? I don’t know, because I don’t have any at-home tests lying around, and I barely left my apartment. Just went out to get stronger meds and didn’t find any tests at the drug store. Ugh.
Comic Book of the Week goes to Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty #4 for a truly exceptional issue that works on multiple levels, while keeping the focus squarely on Steve Rogers the man.
Meanwhile, ugh, this cold really sucked! I didn’t do much else. I watched Paper Girls on Amazon Prime and that was a let down. It was like an early 2000s Nickelodeon attempt to do Paper Girls, with no real budget. The Sandman was great on Netflix. And Total War: Warhammer 3 is living up to the years of hype. So other than the cold, I’m good.
Comic Reviews: Batman #127, Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty #4 and She-Hulk #6.
