Fun is Fun is Pacific Rim is Power Rangers
Brought to my attention by loyal henchperson Xavier, this is just one of those fun little videos that the Internet decided to grace us with. Internetter The Unusual Suspect in particular.
So when are we going to get that big screen, big budget live action Power Rangers movie? And I don’t mean The Power Rangers Movie, which was clearly tied into the TV show. I mean the serious, Transformers-esque re-imagining? Because I’m in if you guys are.
Lois Lane is the Best Reporter Ever
Being a newspaper reporter myself, I’ve got to give credit where credit is due.
I don’t post nearly enough of these DC Nation shorts. It doesn’t help that I don’t have cable in my apartment. I should do something about that. Or just keep relying on the glory of the Internet!
Review: Thor: The Dark World
Hit me with a giant hammer and call me ‘Sean Ian Nails’, Marvel has done it again with Thor: The Dark World! The new film is so good you’ll wish you knew a few great ‘Thor’ puns to use on your friends. I wish I had a few right now because this movie is worth every cringe-inducing accolade one could think up.
Thor: The Dark World is exactly what we’ve come to expect from Marvel Studios, combining exciting action with strong character work and just the right amount of humor. Your thides will be thore from laughing so hard.
Movie Rating: 9/10 – Great.
The new Thor film is bigger, badder and far more entertaining than the first, once again proving beyond all doubt that Marvel can turn Thor into an A-List action hero. I never thought it possible. I always figured Thor was too complex a character. But three times in a row now, he’s wielded that hammer like a true cinematic star. Children dress up as Thor for Halloween and play with his action figures. Loki is beloved by men and women alike. And with movies as good as The Dark World, I hope they’re doing it for a long time to come.
But some critics seem to think otherwise. Of the few negative reviews I’ve seen online, a lot of them complain about this being yet another superhero movie, yet another outing from Marvel’s Avengers franchise. I don’t know what their problem is, but I don’t particularly care. I can’t get enough of these superhero blockbusters, and Marvel has yet to disappoint me. Think about it: it’s safe to expect that we will get a certain number of action movies out of Hollywood each year. It’s just the way our system works. Well I would much rather watch a movie starring Thor that’s this damn good than watch one starring Tom Cruise in whatever generic action film Tom Cruise has signed on for this time.
Superheroes have replaced actors as the primary draw in Hollywood, and I couldn’t be more thrilled. Join me after the jump for the full review.
Fully Full Day of the Doctor Trailer
I posted the small trailer yesterday, well here’s the full trailer for The Day of the Doctor 50th anniversary special. It’s much better, I think.
So it looks like that’s really going to be David Tennant’s 10th Doctor. Here I thought he was going to play that half-human clone that got trapped in that alternate dimension, which would also explain why Billie Piper is back. But having the two real Doctors meet is much cooler, I must admit. The episode will air on Nov. 23. Mark your calenders, it’s bound to be a good one.
About Those Nightwing Rumors…
Frequent readers of my blog know that I am a huge Robin fan. Super huge. Distractingly so. I legitimately like the Robin parts of Batman Forever, so that’s telling you something. Being such a Robin fan, I feel it’s kind of my duty to comment on the rumors that Dick Grayson might appear in the upcoming Batman/Superman movie. What’s the point of a pop culture blog like this one if I don’t talk about pressing pop culture rumors that interest me?
According to both Latino Review, which has a good track record about movie rumors, and The Wrap, which I assume considers itself a legitimate news organization, Dick Grayson is going to appear in the Man of Steel sequel. He’s going to be older, and he and Batman won’t have spoken to each other in a few years. I don’t usually like to comment on these types of rumors because there’s always a million of them. How many of us believed that the Riddler was going to appear in The Dark Knight Rises? Or that Philip Seymour Hoffman was going to play the Penguin?
But I don’t care about Riddler or Penguin. I care about Robin. Or Nightwing, as the case may be.
So what do I think? First of all, like I said, these are only rumors at this point. Likewise, there are rumors that Wonder Woman’s going to appear as well. I don’t cotton to rumors, and this could easily be disproven within a week. If that’s the case, so be it. But as of right now, if we take these Internet news reports for fact, then Dick Grayson might appear in the Batman/Superman movie, and that is awesome!
Seriously, this is the best possible news! This is something I never thought possible, like something from my wildest dreams. The world still thinks Robin is silly. Not even Christopher Nolan’s take on the character could truly save Robin from his embarrassing reputation. But this? This would be a dream come true! That backstory screams respect and seriousness, and of course, why bother setting up a split between Batman and his sidekick if you’re not going to resolve it in the movie?
I even like the look of the actor rumored at the top of the short list to play Dick: Adam Driver.
I’ve never seen him in anything, but he looks the part, at least mostly.
I don’t know if these rumors are going to come to pass or not. I don’t know what the future holds. But if they’re true, if Dick Grayson makes a respectable appearance in Batman/Superman, then I will be one happy geek. Please, universe, do this for me. I don’t think it’s too much to ask.
