Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 4/27/24
Jeez! I’m sorry this is so late! I had to work this morning. Otherwise we’re back with more comic book reviews! Just like last week, a bunch of my favorite comics came out this week and I didn’t want to leave my reviews of them in the dust. So I read some good comics and I’m prepared to talk about some good comics, like the end of Duke and some more Ultimate Spider-Man.
Comic Book of the Week goes to Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #119 for getting the Darkest Hour train back on the tracks, just in time to announce the end of the series.
Meanwhile, I finally started playing God of War: Ragnarok after getting it for free with my Playstation 5 several years ago. It’s pretty much exactly what I expected, and that’s pretty nice. Beyond that, I also finally built the Optimus Prime LEGO set I bought several years ago. That was super fun as well.
Comic Reviews: Duke #5, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #119, and Ultimate Spider-Man #4.

I am a big, big fan of the Amalgam Universe of comics. I lived through that stuff when it came out, though I wasn’t as plugged into comics back then as I am today. It’s just such an insane and awesome idea, that DC and Marvel would not only work together, but then create this insane, combined character universe?! It’s wonderful and silly!
And they’re reprinting those comics! There’s going to be a new Amalgam Omnibus coming out this summer, collecting a bunch of, if not all, of the issues. They probably don’t hold up, but I’m sure as heck buying the book just to make it part of my collection. And in order to make this omnibus look as good as possible, they’ve got Jim Lee drawing the wrap-around cover.
Behold!
That’s a fun picture! Dark Claw! Spider-Boy! Amazon! Super Soldier! I love that this is happening. I love that attention is being paid. I don’t imagine many of the comics will actually hold up, but they don’t need to. I just wanna own this awesome piece of comics history. And it helps to have a picture like that by the great Jim Lee to really make it shine.
Now what unholy pact has to be signed to get new, modern day Amalgam comics?

Strong Guy Watch: Didn’t See This Coming!
There was a super surprise Strong Guy appearance this week and I need to tell somebody! I’ve been following random Strong Guy appearances for years now, just because it’s fun. He’s a great character and doesn’t appear very often. And now he’s had one of his greatest appearances of all time.
But I won’t spoil it here. You’re going to have to join me after the jump for the big Strong Guy reveal! I warn you, only click this link if your love of Strong Guy outweighs your concerns about spoilers, and if you’re fully up to speed on X-Men projects.
There will only be light spoilers.

Have you ever heard of the video game Kingdom Come: Deliverance? I hadn’t until a friend introduced me. It’s like Skyrim, if you replace all the supernatural fantasy stuff with rigid, medieval realism. It’s that same sort of first-person RPG, but these developers are real sticklers for historical accuracy.
For example, in Skyrim, you’ve got three pieces of armor for your head, chest and legs. In Kingdom Come: Deliverance, you’ve got your underwear, your outerwear, protective padding, chainmail and then chestplate…and that’s only for your torso! And each of those pieces of clothing/armor takes damage and needs to be repaired, and can get dirty, which can affect your charisma. And don’t get me started on the insanely steep learning curves for weapon fighting and archery. There’s even a side quest where your peasant character can learn how to read!
Anyway, there’s going to be a sequel this year!
If you don’t have time for that big developer video, here’s the regular trailer.
So I really enjoyed that first game, even though I never finished it. I didn’t have too many games I was looking forward to this year, but Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is definitely high on my list now! I can’t wait to not get a hang of the sword fighting all over again!
The game will come to all systems by the end of the year!

Behold This Really Big, Really Cool X-Men Picture!
Artist Scott Koblish has drawn a gigantic X-Men mural as a connecting cover for the From The Ashes relaunch comics. It’s not the first time an artist has done something like this, but this one is really, really fun. It’s all about early X-Men history, and you can see time pass from left to right.
Looks awesome. I love artwork like this. The artist goes above and beyond to draw a bajillion characters and it’s just super fun to look at all the stuff. I found Mimic and Multiple Man, so I’m pleased as punch.
I’m getting more excited about From The Ashes by the day!
