Looks Like I’m Going to Give Star Wars: The High Republic a Try
Today is launch day for The High Republic — a new Star Wars imprint across novels — comics and probably more, telling new stories set 200 years before the regular Star Wars saga. It’s going to be the Jedi at the height of their power and influence. Here’s the launch trailer!
At first, I wasn’t going to pay any real attention to The High Republic. I’ve never cared about The Old Republic and saw no reason to get into this. But I’ve been reading some Star Wars novels recently, and am almost done with the last one I had on my pile, so I thought to myself…why not buy the new High Republic book? It’s coming out today, I need some new books to read, so why not give it a chance?
There’s also a new High Republic comic coming out from Marvel this week. And there are some young adult books, that I probably won’t read…but I could!
The High Republic starts now! Are you in? I guess I am.

Everybody Should Enjoy the McElroy Brothers
I don’t know if I’ve talked about this on the blog yet, but I really got into the McElroy Brothers this pandemic. They’re a trio of funny podcasters who are branching out all over the place, from DnD podcasts to other podcasts to graphic novels based on their DnD podcast. They’re funny guys!
To help ease you into checking them out, they’ve got a ton of animatics on YouTube, where animators take some funny bits from their podcast and set it to animation. This gorgeous piece of work comes to us from animator Christian Dobbins.
They’re funny guys, I’m tellin’ ya! Go ahead and search around YouTube for some more of the animatics.
They’re main podcast is called My Brother, My Brother and Me. And they’ve got a bunch of other work out there. They had a 6-episode TV show on Seeso that’s now available to watch if you make a temporary account on VRV. I did and the show is great!
But yeah, this is just me sharing some excellent comedy and that great animated video that Mr. Dobbins just put out!

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 1/2/21
Happy New Year, everybody! It’s 2021, life is better, but we’ve still got a couple of last minute comics from 2020 to read and review. There wasn’t much on my buy pile this week, so it’ll be a quick review list. But when we’ve got new issues of Power Pack and X-Men, you know we’ll be in for a good time!
Comic Book of the Week goes to Power Pack #2, as writer Ryan North finally lets his unique sense of humor shine through! Take a look at this guy!
Meanwhile, I mostly wasted yesterday with a long nap in the afternoon, so I didn’t get to everything I wanted to get to on the first day of the new year. So…I think I’ll consider today to be the first day of the New Year! Huzzah! Let’s all enjoy ourselves.
Comic Reviews: Power Pack #2 and X-Men #16.

It’s 2021 and the year has already peaked! I finally caught a 3-star Chespin in Pokemon Go first thing in the morning. And then learned thereafter that the LEGO models that went on sale today, which I was excited to buy, are already sold out. If you believe in omens, take these for what you will. I think 2021 has already peaked with that Chespin.
But hey, let’s start with something simple and fun. I’m a big College Humor fan and they’ve put out another new animated If Google was a Guy video!
Those are always fun! This time last year, College Humor announced they were shutting down. They cast has been hanging in there during the pandemic producing videos and shows for Dropout. I’d love to see these funny people getting more work somewhere. But it’s nice that they can still produce their own content. Subscribe to Dropout!
Happy 2021, everybody!

My 6 Favorite Things of 2020
What is there possibly left to say about 2020? This was a dumpster fire of a year for pretty much everybody, and the last person who should be commenting on it is me. I’m safe to say that I’m healthy and fine. I made it through this horrible year pretty well. So let’s wrap it up with my favorite movies, TV shows and comics from the year!

It’s the least we can do. I’ve done this for the past several years, and we might as well do it now. Because as someone who spent most of the year locked down at home, working from home, I definitely blasted through a lot of media. So much so, that I split television shows into two categories this year, just so I could talk about different shows in different contexts. This was also a year without any Marvel movies, which are usually my favorite in any given year, let alone major movie releases to begin with!
This was a crazy year, but there was still good stuff out there in the world! Granted, I didn’t see, read or play all of it…but I experienced enough! So join me after the jump for my favorite media from 2020!
