Bring Me Gigan!

I saw Godzilla vs. Kong this past weekend and enjoyed the film, despite its many, many flaws. There is no word on whether or not Hollywood will continue this Monsterverse series, but I hope they do because these modern Godzilla movies are fun overall! With no word on what comes next, I am left to speculate and propose what we’ll see next.

Bring me Gigan!

This is called the Gigan Shuffle

The big alien beasty with blade arms and a buzzsaw stomach and the Cyclops visor first appeared in the classic Toho film Godzilla vs. Gigan, one of my favorites as a child. The movie featured Godzilla and Anguirus teaming up to take on the alien team of King Ghidorah and the new baddy, Gigan. The monster is, quite notably, an alien, and that’s where I think this franchise has to go next.

Godzilla vs. Kong leaned heavily into the goofier Godzilla classics. This franchise is no longer the tense, realism-based horror movie of the 2014 reboot. It’s big, silly, monster-bashing fun!

But rather than focus the next film on Hollow Earth, let’s look to the stars to a full-on alien invasion!

It’s actually a peninsula!

What better way to make Godzilla the hero? What better reason to have Godzilla, Kong, Mothra and Anguirus team up than to expel some alien invaders and their monster champion?

Aliens have already been part of the franchise. I recently rewatched Godzilla: King of the Monsters and they quite clearly say that Ghidorah came from outer space. So the seeds have been planted. Let’s take that to the next level for the next big movie.

I also just want to see the modern, detailed interpretation of that silly Gigan monster costume. I want a realistic-looking buzzsaw stomach!

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 4/3/21

What a week! I got some dental work done on Monday and could only eat soft foods — so this big dummy just went out and bought a bunch of pudding and Jell-O cups. They’re not as tasty as I imagined. Thankfully, I had some really good Marvel comics this week! Like a new issue of The Union and X-Men!

Comic Book of the Week goes to Beta Ray Bill #1! I had high hopes for this new mini-series and this first issue blew them out of the water! I’m really looking forward to this adventure with the greatest comic book character in the world!

You can’t deny it

Meanwhile, Godzilla vs. Kong was pretty cool! I saw it on the big screen because movie theaters have reopened in my area, and I had a blast. As always, the moviemakers couldn’t seem to do squat with the human characters, but the monster battles were neat. The logic, script and monster height inconsistencies bugged the heck out of me, though.

Comic Reviews: Beta Ray Bill #1, The Union #4 and X-Men #19.

I Can Actually Show You This New Trailer for The Suicide Squad!

Earlier this week, we got a red band trailer for The Suicide Squad movie by James Gunn. Red band means it’s not fit for our innocent eyes. Fortunately for all of us, DC and Gunn have released a green band trailer that’s safe for work and our innocent eyes! And it’s just as much fun!

This movie looks great! Both trailers are a ton of fun. All the characters look to be a ton of fun. This whole thing looks like a big, fun action romp of a movie that we’re all hopefully going to love! I’m going to get the hype up regardless!

The Suicide Squad comes to both theaters and HBO Max on Aug. 6!

Adult Swim Jr. is Winning April Fools Day!

I love April Fools Day! I love the pageantry of most holidays, and I especially love the day where we all get together and pull harmless internet prank headlines on one another. If I had more forethought and artistic ability, I’d do something funny with my blog heading…but for now, I shall ride the coattails of Adult Swim Jr.!

Rick and Morty Babies is legit funny. Adult Swim is killing it for April Fool’s Day this year. There are more videos on their Twitter.

I’ll post more if I can find them!

The Top 6 Giant Monsters in Comics (Who Aren’t Godzilla)

Giant monsters are gonna be fighting this week! Godzilla is going to fight King Kong once again, and it’s bound to be some level of great! Movie theaters are open in my area once again, and I’ll actually get to see this film on the big screen! And not only is Godzilla vs. Kong coming out, but Starro appeared in the new trailer for The Suicide Squad! Giant monsters are all the rage this week, so how about a List of Six about giant monsters?

Godzilla better win

I tried to think of a Godzilla-related List for this week, but I already did one years ago talking about what monsters I’d like to see in the franchise. So unless Godzilla vs. Kong surprises us with an Anguirus cameo, I’m pretty satisfied with monsters — though I wouldn’t mind seeing a modern take on Gigan. So how about a list of some of my favorite giant kaiju monsters from American comic books? Specifically, Marvel and DC superhero comics. I know that’s limiting things, but who has the time and energy to catalogue every giant monster ever? And I’m not counting the Marvel Godzilla comics, because those are pretty generic monsters. I’m talking the best giant monsters that exist in our favorite superhero universes! Let’s do this!

Join me after the jump for the best kaiju to appear in superhero comics!
