6 Thoughts on the First Season of Hawkeye

I’m a couple of weeks late with this list, but time and the holidays make fools of us all. The first season of the Hawkeye TV show on Disney+ came and went and it was an utter delight! Marvel Studios is doing a wonderful job adapting their movie characters into TV shows, and I have enjoyed every one — especially Hawkeye. From just liking Clint Barton on the big screen, to looking forward to the introduction of Kate Bishop, I had high hopes for the Hawkeye show from the very beginning. And it lived up to the hype and then some.

TV Rating: 9/10 – Great.

I will admit that these Marvel shows aren’t all grand and wonderful television. There are shows that are more dramatic and engaging, shows that are more inventive. But in terms of creating enjoyable TV shows out of MCU characters and properties, these Disney+ shows — and especially Hawkeye — are doing a great job. They’re hugely fun, very entertaining, and use the characters in fun and cool ways. I think Marvel Studios is nailing it in their quest to expand onto the small screen, and I really look forward to the movies and shows interacting and intersecting even more. The pandemic pumped the brakes on that, but it’s only a matter of time.

The Peacemaker TV Show Looks Dope

The Peacemaker TV show is coming out in a week, and it looks cool as heck! I loved The Suicide Squad on the big screen, and knowing that James Gunn produced this spin-off show means great things. So enjoy this new trailer.

This show just looks bigger and weirder and funnier with each passing trailer. Will it live up to its own hype? Only time will tell…time being next week! Peacemaker comes to HBO Max on Jan. 13.

Forgotten Character: New Pyro

Whatever happened to that new Pyro?

When the X-Men moved to Krakoa and introduced mutant resurrection, one of the most prominent characters brought back from the dead was the classic X-Men villain Pyro. He’s an all-star member of the Brotherhood of Mutants, and died a tragic death from the legacy virus way back in the ancient year of 2000. When he returned in the Krakoa-era, Pyro was one of the main characters in the new Marauders series. He’s been a prominent player ever since.

But his return seems to have kicked out a new Pyro introduced shortly before Krakoa.

X-Men: Blue and X-Men: Gold were one of the last major status quo shifts before Marvel completely upended the X-Men. Classic team designations, new characters and prominent storylines saw the X-Men franchise take one last, desperate gasp at being normal before writer Jonathan Hickman changed everything. And the new Pyro was a medium player in X-Men: Gold.

So why hasn’t he been welcomed in the new mutant nation of Krakoa? Join me after the jump to learn more about this guy!

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 1/1/22

Happy New Year, everybody! What a week, what a week…not much was happening and I kinda lazied my way into today. My comic book pile was very, very light this week. I considered picking up a couple extra comics just to beef up this pile of comic reviews, but maybe I just like being lazy. I did read a new issue of Amazing Spider-Man, at least.

Comic Book of the Week goes to Power Rangers #14 for a rip-roaringly cool chapter in the Eltarian War!

Oh yes, this is happening

Meanwhile, I beat the Guardians of the Galaxy video game and it was a hoot. Pretty fun game. It was mostly a big, enjoyable story with some interactive and shooting elements here and there. I think they did a great job with the characters, and there were a ton of really fun Marvel cameos and Easter Eggs. So enjoyable game overall. And I also enjoyed the first episode of The Book of Boba Fett. I’d say it’s off to a great start.

Comic Reviews: Amazing Spider-Man #83 and Power Rangers #14.

My 6 Favorite Things of 2021

It’s that time of year again. The end of it. And at the end of the year, everybody on the internet gets together and shares their Best Of lists for the previous year, this one being 2021. I’m no different. I’ve got favorites to talk about and share, and I’m happy to share them with you fine readers. Perhaps you’ll even agree with some of my choices!

As always, I don’t really listen to new music or read books, so I don’t have choices for those. That makes getting to six categories rather difficult, but I find ways to manage. Then we can dive into the really fun stuff! My favorite movie of the year? My favorite TV show? I was surprised by this one. How about video games? Or especially comics? There was a lot of great stuff to enjoy this year. I don’t claim to experience everything. I missed a ton of those really niche, arthouse movies. And I didn’t even up playing too many new video games. But I had a really good year, I think. And I’m looking forward to what this fancy new year has to offer.

Join me after the jump for my favorite bits and pieces of 2021. And feel free to share your own favorites below in the comments!
