Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 9/17/22

Good news, everybody! I have for sure survived my bout with COVID-19. It’s been a terrible two weeks, but I’m down to just the smallest of head congestion symptoms now. Suffice to say, it was pretty crappy having COVID. And just my luck to get it long after the pandemic has settled down around the world.

Comic Book of the Week goes to Dark Spaces: Wildfire #3 for another excellent part of this creative heist tale.

Time to actually fight a fire!

Meanwhile, I’m on the verge of buying Temtem, the knock-off Pokemon game that finally had its full release this month. The game looks tempting, but the knock-off nature is a little unappealing. But then I’ve got no other games coming out until the end of October, and even then I’ll need to finally buy a Playstation 5. So I’m just not sure what to do!

Comic Reviews: Amazing Spider-Man #9, Dark Spaces: Wildfire #3, Godzilla vs. The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #5 and Jurassic League #5.

I’m Probably Gonna Need to Get a Playstation 5 for God of War: Ragnarok

The time has come, once again, in my unfortunate life, wherein I’ll probably need to buy a new gaming console. My PC is getting old and all the new games need the fancy new generation. But Playstation 5s are still hard to find! Why is that?! It’s been, like, three years? Why can’t I just go to Best Buy and get a Playstation 5? Stupid world.

Anyway, check out this awesome new trailer for God of War: Ragnarok.

Looks great. But it also looks great on a Playstation 5! How else am I going to play this? I know I can get it for my Playstation 4…but should I? Shouldn’t I just upgrade? Gotham Knights isn’t going to have a Playstation 4 version. Or maybe I’ll just wait. Pokemon Violet comes out that same month and I’ve got a Nintendo Switch that works.

I guess I’m just going to have to wait and see what fate has in store for me on Nov. 9.

6 Jedi Who Could Use Some Tales

The new animated Star Wars show Tales of the Jedi was announced this past weekend at D23 and it looks promising. I’ve always wanted to see some of the adventures of the young Qui-Gon Jinn and Count Dooku. Because why not? Could be an interesting time period.

Baby Ahsoka merch incoming

And because I’m still sick at home with COVID, I wanted an easy List of Six. So here are some other Jedi who, I think, deserve some tales of their own. Let’s check out their younger years, see what they were up to. What kind of mischief did they engage in? What life-altering decisions were made? What galaxy-spanning mischief occurred? We’ll only know when they get around to these six Jedi!

All the Marvel and Star Wars Trailers from D23 in One Place!

This was a pretty fun weekend for Marvel and Star Wars reveals! Disney held their annual D23 event, which has become one of their chances to go hog wild with new trailers, shows and whatnot. We didn’t get a Fantastic Four cast reveal, but we got plenty of good news about upcoming stuff. And since trailers are easy to post on a weekend where I’m still recovering from a cold, let’s just go over the fun trailers!

Secret Invasion

This looks great! Samuel L. Jackson finally headlining his own Marvel project, and he gets to come in like a total badass and save the world from an invisible Skrull invasion. Cool premise, straight from the comics, and this trailer makes it look like a really awesome spy thriller. That’s perfect. One thing Marvel is definitely doing these days is trying out a bunch of different genres with their superhero umbrella. That’s great, and Secret Invasion looks to really amp up the cool spy stuff next year.

Werewolf by Night

Traditionally, comic book-wise, I don’t care about Werewolf by Night. He was before my time, and then being a simple werewolf, never captured my interest after that. But here we see that his Halloween special will be this awesome, black and white, classic grindhouse horror throwback! Brilliant idea, brilliant trailer; this one should be a done-in-one hoot in early October.

The Mandalorian

Season 3 of The Mandalorian will come out early next year, and of course I’m excited. Who wouldn’t be excited? This show has taken the world by storm, and it’s the one really good Star Wars property being made right now. Surely it’s gonna stay good. And it looks like The Mandalorian is about to encounter a bunch of Mandalorians. So that’s neat!

Andor

I think Andor is going to be really good. I think they’re going to lean hard into the grays of war and uprisings, and give us a really dark, hard look at what life would have been like in the early Rebellion. Should be a lot of fun, in that regard. Shows like Obi-Wan Kenobi and The Book of Boba Fett dealt a bit too heavily on specific storylines; I think this is going to be more open and more badass.

Tales of the Jedi

This one was a surprise, and a welcome one. A bunch of new Star Wars shorts that tell a parallel story between Anakin training Ahsoka and Dooku training Qui-Gon? Hells yes! I’ve wanted for years now to see a story set in Qui-Gon’s early years. Let’s see more familiar Jedi faces when they were younger, when the world was different. This one is coming in October and should also be a lot of fun.

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 9/10/22

What a gorram week. It was my birthday this past Tuesday, and what did I get? A real nasty cold! The worst cold I’ve had in years. Was it COVID? I don’t know, because I don’t have any at-home tests lying around, and I barely left my apartment. Just went out to get stronger meds and didn’t find any tests at the drug store. Ugh.

Comic Book of the Week goes to Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty #4 for a truly exceptional issue that works on multiple levels, while keeping the focus squarely on Steve Rogers the man.

This is some gorgeous composition

Meanwhile, ugh, this cold really sucked! I didn’t do much else. I watched Paper Girls on Amazon Prime and that was a let down. It was like an early 2000s Nickelodeon attempt to do Paper Girls, with no real budget. The Sandman was great on Netflix. And Total War: Warhammer 3 is living up to the years of hype. So other than the cold, I’m good.

Comic Reviews: Batman #127, Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty #4 and She-Hulk #6.
