Marvel: Midnight Suns Looks Fascinating
I didn’t really know what to make about the reveal trailer for Midnight Suns, a new Marvel video game coming sometime next year. It’s…it’s a lot to take in. And honestly, it looks like one of those cheap Marvel mobile games. See for yourself.
The trailer looks like madness. But maybe in a good way?
The one thing keeping me tethered to hope for Midnight Suns is that it is produced by Firaxis, a game studio responsible for the XCOM games. I recently got into XCOM this pandemic and I really, really enjoyed XCOM 2. The in-field battle tactics were superb.
Firaxis people have come out to say that Midnight Suns is not just going to be a superhero skin over the top of XCOM core gameplay, but they’ve also said the game is going to be about in-field battle tactics. So we’ll just have to wait for a gameplay trailer to know for sure. But the general idea of an XCOM style game, where your squad is comprised of a bunch of Marvel superheroes, sounds phenomenal. I am here for that kind of game.
So we’ll find out when Marvel: Midnight Suns comes out in March 2022!

New Pokemon Snap DLC is Coming Tomorrow!
This was a surprise, but a welcome one. New Pokemon Snap for the Nintendo Switch is getting some free DLC tomorrow! This announcement came out of nowhere. It just popped up on YouTube the other day. I hadn’t heard any talk about this, which is a shame, because I loved this game and was hoping for DLC someday. But I’d also just written it off as one and done.
It looks like we’re getting an entire new river biome to travel, and a level where we shrink down to smaller than bugs. Both sound great! And maybe we’ll luck out and this is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to DLC for New Pokemon Snap. Here’s hoping!
The free DLC will download on Tuesday.

How About Another Animated Mortal Kombat?
I never got around to watching Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge. It’s on my hard drive somewhere and perhaps I will one of these days. I definitely should watch it ahead of its brand new sequel. Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle of the Realms.
I definitely want to watch this new film because it has my favorite character, Smoke. That’s all it takes for me to watch. The animation looks really good in these movies. And it’s probably going to be far more accurate to the games and lore than the live action movie we got only a couple of months ago.
HBO should just make an ongoing Mortal Kombat cartoon series. Netflix got a lot of traction out of that awesome Castlevania show. A Mortal Kombat show could run for plenty of seasons, with so many characters. Think about it, HBO Max! You need more foundational shows!
Battle of the Realms comes out on Aug. 31.

6 Cosmic Characters I Want to See in the Guardians of the Galaxy Game
Monday saw the announcement of an upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy video game. It’s going to be a single player action RPG where you take the movie-lite characters on an adventure through the cosmos. A bunch of cosmic Marvel characters appear in the trailer…and all of them are from the GotG movies.
Surely the game isn’t restricted to just the movies…right?
Marvel has a bajillion and one cosmic characters out there in the universe. Surely this game has the rights to include more than just movie characters, right? The Square Enix Avengers game included the likes of Ms. Marvel and Kate Bishop, and they aren’t from the movies…though both have upcoming shows. Oh…oh god. The GotG game is only going to include movie characters. Cosmo, Mantis, Nova Corps, Collector…that’s all we’re going to get! Noooooooo!
Join me after the jump to relieve my disappointment with some awesome cosmic characters who I hope beyond hope get to show up in the Guardians of the Galaxy video game!
Read the rest of this entryWe’re Getting a Guardians of the Galaxy Video Game
So this was a surprise over the weekend. Apparently we’ll be getting a Guardians of the Galaxy video game by the end of the year. Produced by Square Enix, it’s going to be a single-player action RPG of sorts where we play as Star-Lord going on an adventure. Huh, neat.
I can’t say the game looks all that great from this first trailer. Square Enix are the people behind that relatively lousy Avengers game last year. Though if I’m being honest, the single player campaign stuff was pretty solid. So if Guardians of the Galaxy is just that, perhaps it will be good.
Looks to be a bunch of running and shooting and dialogue that tries really hard to be as clever and witty as the movie dialogue. That part is probably going to be really cringey. Based on this gameplay trailer, we’ll control the other Guardians on the side of our own running, jumping and shooting.
I don’t know why I’m not more excited for this game. I think I read too many comments from people automatically comparing it unfavorably to the Avengers game last fall. And that’s a legit criticism. It’s got the same not-quite-the-Marvel-movies look and feel, which is weird. It’s like they wanted to make a Guardians of the Galaxy tie-in game like the days of old…but didn’t.
I’ll probably play it and hope for some awesome Marvel cosmic cameos. Though I get a feeling we will only see and interact with characters who have appeared in the movies, like Cosmo, Mantis and the Nova Corps.
Guardians of the Galaxy is set to release in October.
