6 Things I Really Want in Modern Pokemon Games
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are upon us and we’re truly living in an open Pokemon world now, baby! Pokemon Legends: Arceus was the baby steps, and now our youthful protagonist is out and about traveling a fully open, fully explorable world filled with wild pokemon roaming free. No more walking through tall grass. No more routes. Not as much handholding. We’re free.
Relatively speaking.

A lot of hay has been made about the poor graphical stability of the game, with poor frame rates, stuttering, glitches and everything else under the same. And the games definitely have all of that. But honestly, it doesn’t really bother me or hinder my gameplay. Those graphical issues are not going to take away from me running wild and free in this glorious open world Pokemon game. But that’s not say to Scarlet and Violet are perfect. Or that Sword and Shield were perfect. Or that whatever the next games will be will be perfect. Because I do have some complaints.
Join me after the jump for six improvements I want to see in all future, mainline Pokemon games, things that aren’t too much to ask for in a modern game made by the most profitable franchise in history.

The world is a crazy place, but it’s still not as bad as the world of Fallout. To see for sure, check out this sweet fan-made live action trailer about the Fallout universe. Made by the fine folks at Infectious Designer.
Looks fancy! That’s some quality work. And it came out ahead of the upcoming actual live action Fallout TV show. Is that show going to be anything good? We’ll see! I have faith in all sorts of things, and a Fallout TV show should be pretty easy to enjoy. I’m the sort of sucker who enjoyed the live action Halo TV show. So perhaps there’s no hope for me.

How About a Big, Extended Look at Hogwarts Legacy?
It’s the last day of my vacation and I’ve got to go back to work tomorrow. Ain’t that a drag? Well over the weekend, to raise my spirits, we got this extra-long visit to Hogwarts Legacy, a video game I am very much looking forward to in a couple of months. Hopefully it plays well on the Playstation 4 because I haven’t yet splurged on the hard-to-find PS5 just yet. We see a lot and learn a lot in this video, if you fancy a watch.
The create-a-wizard looks amazing. Lots of options, so that’s good. The common rooms and the castle look great, full of NPCs doing their own thing. That’s neat. We won’t be getting Bully-esque classes, like I wanted. I can live with that. There will be a day/night cycle, that’s cool. Yeah, this is a really good look at the game. And, hopefully, all of these things can be approved upon in a hopeful sequel.
First we need to find out if it plays OK on the PS4, pretty please.
Hogwarts Legacy comes out on Feb. 10.

I’ve Decided Not to Get Gotham Knights…Yet
Gotham Knights is probably my dream video game. An Arkham-style Batman game where you play as Robin? Are you kidding me? And then all the other Robins, and Batgirl? Are you kidding me?! This is everything I want!
But I can’t play it. I don’t have a Playstation 5 or the X-Box equivalent. And my gaming PC is too old and out-of-date to handle the game. I don’t…I don’t have any easy way to play. And I can’t really afford to rush out and buy an expensive new graphics card just to play this one game. I just…I just can’t. I’m going to have to be patient. I can’t play it yet.
But at least that launch trailer was cool. And maybe I’ll get lucky and the game will be super buggy on launch anyway. That’ll make me feel better. Besides, you never want to buy new games on Day 1 anymore. The developers are always coming out with new updates over time. Horizon: Forbidden West has been getting regular updates for months now. Since I bought it and beat it within Month 1, I didn’t have transmog.
So yeah…I think I’m going to make my peace with waiting on Gotham Knights. Wish me luck.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie Looks Great, Sounds Terrible
The first teaser trailer for the big budget, animated Super Mario Bros. movie arrived on the internet yesterday and it looks phenomenal. I love almost every visual this movie has to offer. But watch out for Chris Pratt’s weird accent for Mario…
I just sounds so bad. I think I’d prefer if he was just his normal Chris Pratt voice instead of whatever weird little slight accent he’s trying to give it. So bad! Also, clearly Mario looks like Fix-It Felix, right? It’s in the eyes. Those aren’t Mario’s eyes. Those are standard animated movie eyes.
Anyway, looking past the weird Mario choices, the rest of this trailer is gorgeous. The slow, serious build-up to a truly powerful Bowser is a great choice! I love the balance between serious and some comedy. I’m so glad to see this isn’t some slapstick nonsense. It looks awesome!
It just sounds weird. But we’ll find out for sure how the voicework works when it comes to theaters next year!
