Supergirl Has Been Cast, Should Supergirl Become a Thing!

I’m still generally unsure about what to make of the upcoming Supergirl TV show on CBS. Apparently the show has a series commitment, so it’s definitely going to happen, but it just seems so unreal to me at this point for some reason. Maybe I still can’t accept that we live in a world where DC superhero shows are happening and are amazing!

Despite my inability to grasp reality, CBS has gone and cast actress Melissa Benoist as the Girl of Steel! She was a breakout star on Glee, and appeared in the movie Whiplash. Anybody see Whiplash? I hear it’s good.

“But she’s not blonde!” – Internet nerds

The show is going to be an hour-long drama, similar to Arrow and The Flash, though there is some concern whether or not it will share the same universe. Supergirl will be about Kara Zor-El at age 24, using the Earth name ‘Kara Danvers’. They’re really going all out on the Krypton/comic book stuff, which is great, though no word yet on whether or not Superman exists in this show. Kara will have spent her whole life hiding her powers, but a big event exposes her to the public, and she starts to become a superhero – likely with some relationship shenanigans.

If a Supergirl TV show really happens, you better believe I’ll be there to watch it!

Agent Carter Has It Rough

How’s everybody liking Agent Carter? I’ve only seen the first two episodes so far, and they were pretty neat. I like the character, for sure, and Haley Atwell is just top notch. I think it’ll make a nice little diversion between Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

And, of course, we can always count on Only Leigh to be awesome! I love her animations, I love her voice, I love her geekery; she’s quality Internet!

6 More Potential Shows for the Arrow-Verse

Word hit the Internet this week that not only will the superhero Vixen be joining the same TV universe as Arrow and The Flash, but that producers are considering the Atom for their next spin-off. Clearly the people at Warner Bros. can recognize success, and they want to bank as much as possible on their winning superhero formula. Marvel is building a shared superhero universe in the movies, so it looks like DC is going to do the same on TV.

I’m all for it! I love both Arrow and The Flash, and I would love to see more heroes jump to the small screen. I think I’m even more excited for the potential of a small screen Justice League than I am for whatever big screen version that Warner Bros. is trying to develop.

This is totally gonna be a thing!

Beyond Arrow, The Flash and the new Vixen cartoon, there’s also talk that upcoming shows about Supergirl and the Teen Titans will be part of the same universe (or at least there were, stupid CBS!). Clearly DC shows no sign of slowing down. But what other shows can they produce?

This is one of my favorite List of Six games, and I invite all of you to join me in coming up with some great ideas. What other superheroes could get shows to tie into the Arrow-Verse? The only rules are that they must fit the aesthetic of the Arrow-Verse, so super-powers are OK, but keep things grounded and gritty. And they can’t be Superman, Batman or Wonder Woman, because the universe is still partially a terrible place, and those characters are apparently only going to appear in the movies.

So join me after the jump to see my ideas. And join me in the comments to share some of your own!

The Venture Bros. Are Still a Thing!

There’s going to be a brand new one-hour Venture Bros. special airing Monday night! How cool is that? And they’re going into space!

As everyone knows, I’m a huge Venture Bros. fan. This entire blog is kind of named in honor of Henchman 21, who was also my first comic-con cosplay get-up. So believe me when I tell you that I’m a huge Venture Bros. fan. But man, how hard is it to make this show? Why haven’t we seen anything since, like, 2013? Does anybody even remember the last season? I remember that it was over too quickly.

Seriously, though, does anybody know why The Venture Bros. isn’t produced like a regular TV show with regular seasons? I mean, I guess I could do some research and find out for myself…I am a reporter…and I do love the show…

Oh hey! New Age of Ultron trailer!

New Vixen Cartoon to Join the Arrow-Verse!

The Arrow-Verse just keeps getting bigger, it seems! Not only has The Flash debuted to strong ratings, and not only are both Supergirl and Teen Titans rumored to be joining, but a new cartoon series starring Vixen has been confirmed for the Fall! The show will air online only, it seems, but both Arrow and Flash will make guest appearances.

They all actually look pretty neat animated

Vixen was announced at the Television Critic’s Association press tour over the weekend, alongside renewals for new seasons of Arrow and The Flash. The cartoon will be about Mari McCabe, the hero with the power to copy the abilities of animals. Vixen can jump like a frog, run like a cheetah or swim like a fish.

Sounds like a solid idea for a new show to me!

So does having the abilities of a bird somehow turn her arms into wings capable of flight?

There are also rumors that The CW might add a new live action TV show starring The Atom. Brandon Routh has been a major guest-star on Arrow this season as Ray Palmer, and he’s going to don his shrinking superhero guise sometime in the latter half of Season 3. Would that make him spin-off worthy? You bet’cha!

My only concern is that the white male is in consideration for a live action TV show, while the black woman is getting relegated to an online cartoon show. What’s the matter, CW? Can only white men star in your live action superhero universe?

Hopefully, at the very least, they hire a real actress so Vixen can guest star on Arrow and The Flash at some point. They definitely need more female members of the off-kilter Justice League they’re building.
