6 Obscure Mutants Who Should Appear on The Gifted
For reasons I do not yet understand, there’s going to be an X-Men TV show that’s not about the X-Men. FOX has gone to all the trouble of bringing the X-Men to TV, but The Gifted won’t actually be about the X-Men. It’s just going to be about random mutants with super powers — so pretty much exactly like the old Mutant X show, or even Heroes. There is no logic in this choice.
But The Gifted is going to feature a couple random X-Men mutants, apparently just for the heck of it.
The show will feature Polaris and Blink, with full Blink makeup. Among others, I think. It just seems so random! Why not go full X-Men? Or even full Brotherhood? Why not embrace the glorious canon you have at your disposal? Fortunately, there are geeks like me around who have a near-encyclopedic knowledge of obscure mutants.
So let’s just have some pure fandom fun and name the six mutants I would love to see randomly show up on The Gifted! The catch here is that they can’t be main X-Men from the comics or movies.
Full-On X-Men TV Show Trailer!
The Gifted is a TV show about mutants that involves some fringe X-Men. Why the show isn’t called X-Men: The TV Show is beyond me. Why would you not take every possible opportunity to get as big an audience as you could? “The Gifted” doesn’t sound like anything.
The trailer does nothing for me. Why not fully embrace the fact that this is an X-Men show? Why not just go for it? Instead, this feels like Heroes-lite. Vague and mysterious people whispering about super powers and running from a government agency, complete with the lead government agent having his kid(s) be mutants.
My hopes are not set very high for this show, no matter how many Blinks or Polarises they put into it.

The First Defenders Trailer Kicks Butt!
One of the big things I missed by being in the hospital this past week was the release of the first trailer for The Defenders! Stupid illness! I had to watch this thing on my phone on hospital wi-fi until I was able to get home. Fortunately, the trailer was awesome in both forms!
Everybody looks cool together, the dialogue seems nifty and, hopefully, the story is good. Hopefully it’s not just the Defenders fighting an endless wave of Hand ninjas.
The Defenders arrives on Netflix on Aug. 18 — a weekend I’ll be out of town at a comic book convention. So I’ll have to wait a bit before I can watch it. Alas. It’s a cruel world.

That Cloak & Dagger Show Is Really Happening!
Against all my staunchest disbelief, that Cloak & Dagger TV show on Freeform is actually happening! Considering how many superhero movies and TV shows get announced, I rarely believe they’re actually happening until I see some solid footage.
Welp, here it is!
Looks neat! Definitely looks like a Freeform show. Freeform used to be ABC Family, for those of you not in the know. One Christmas holiday home with my family, we ended up watching a bunch of movies on Freeform, and every commercial break had the same commercial for one of their shows about vampire or shadow hunters? It was maddening. But it was definitely Freeform!
So yeah, this show looks kind a neat. I’ll probably check out a couple issues. But if it’s just a cheesy, teenage-angst romance, I’ll probably check out eventually.

Star Wars: Rebels Coming to An End
Star Wars: Rebels has grown on me over the years, so I’m a little sad that next fall’s fourth season will be it’s last.
But hey, we all knew this couldn’t last forever. There couldn’t still be Jedi hanging around when Luke Skywalker arrives on the scene. So is the fourth season gonna get really dark? Will we see the Battle of Scarif from the Rebels’ perspective? Will Ahsoka return?
Guess we’re gonna find out!
