Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 2/9/19
Woohoo! Good news everybody, The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part is awesome! Maybe not as surprisingly magical as the first film, but no less funny, touching, colorful and just plain fun. I need more comics to be exactly like the LEGO movies.
Instead, we get comics that are fun in their own rights, like Champions, X-23 and Young Justice. Comic Book of the Week goes to another stellar issue of The Green Lantern, a comic that is definitely living up to the hype.
Meanwhile, I read the first proper issue of the Age of X-Man and it was fine. It was about the basic X-Men team and it was about what I expected. The twist of the universe has already been revealed, and we know these are our regular main characters living in a made-up fantasy. So there’s no real sense of permanence and stakes, as far as I’m concerned. They’ll tell whatever story they need to tell, and then we’ll move on.
Comic Reviews: Champions #2, The Green Lantern #4, Tony Stark – Iron Man #8, Uncanny X-Men #11, X-23 #9 and Young Justice #2.
Good News, Everybody! Tim Drake Is Robin Again!
The first issue of the revived Young Justice hit the stands last week and revealed that Tim Drake is Robin again. That’s great news for us Tim Drake fans! It’s been a long, grueling road since DC Comics gunked everything up back in the New 52 in 2011. They altered his origin and declared that Tim Drake was only ever “Red Robin” for some reason. Then Rebirth came along and they changed his origin back to normal, declaring that he had been Robin in the beginning, but had since changed to Red Robin.
And now, at long last, Tim Drake resumes the mantle of Robin. He’s the best Robin, has the best Robin costumes, and he deserves the title!
I tried to Google “Brian Michael Bendis” and “Robin” to see if there were any interviews where he explained why he made Tim Drake Robin again, but I couldn’t find any. Or maybe I didn’t dig deep enough. And I haven’t seen any explanation for what this means for Damian Wayne, the current Robin. Perhaps there will be two Robins? It’s not like having a Robin and a Red Robin was all that different.
The important thing is, “Batman and Robin” matters. It’s a household team. They’re the dynamic duo. It matters that Tim Drake was and is Robin. Granted, he’s probably going to spend all of his time with Young Justice and not teaming up with Batman. But anything could happen going forward. For now, it’s just enough to be happy and excited that something is going right with my favorite comic book characters.

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 1/12/19
Holy guacamole, it’s another big week for comics! Not only were there a bunch of my favorite titles already, like Squirrel Girl and Go Go Power Rangers, but there were also a couple of brand new comics I wanted to try out, like Captain Marvel and Young Justice! So be prepared for plenty of reviews!
Comic Book of the Week goes to the final issue of Iceman, where writer Sina Grace goes all out in his second grand finale!
Meanwhile, I continue to fail at catching up to Jason Aaron’s Thor comic. I have a digital stack just waiting for me to read, but I can’t seem to bring myself to do it. I want to get caught up on Thor! I really do! But I’ve also got random YouTube to watch…
Comic Reviews: Captain Marvel #1, Go Go Power Rangers #16, The Green Lantern #3, Iceman #5, Unbeatable Squirrel Girl #40, Uncanny X-Men #9, X-23 #8 and Young Justice #1.
We’re Getting More Young Justice!
Young Justice: Outsiders is coming soon to Netflix. This is one of those magical moments, where fan love caused a cancelled cartoon to come back from the dead. Let’s hope it’s awesome!
Personally, if my memory is correct, I was mostly cool with Young Justice. I can’t remember what it was about the show that bugged me…oh wait, turns out I wrote that article two years ago! There we go, that sums it up nicely. I look forward to the return of the show!
And I still hope they include the Wonder Twins.

My 6 Favorite Episodes of Batman: The Animated Series
Batman: The Animated Series has been getting a lot of attention recently because a big full-series DVD collection came out. Like most comic book geeks, I was a huge fan of the cartoon when it came out in the 1990s, a staple of my after school entertainment. So how about a trip down memory lane for my favorite episodes?
This isn’t a list of the best episodes of the series. And i’m going to try to base this list less on hindsight and more on my own memories from when I was a kid glued to the TV screen. There are three important facts that one needs to know before checking out my list of favorite B:TAS episodes: 1.) I don’t care about the Joker, so his episodes meant little to me; 2.) I was an idiot as a kid, and didn’t fully appreciate gems like Heart of Ice; and 3.) I loved anything with Robin in it.
With those factoids out of the way, let’s dive into my favorite episodes from when I was a kid! And feel free to share your own favorite episodes in the comments!
