6 Thoughts on Birds of Prey
Sadly, it seems that Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn is not doing very well at the box office. Which is a damn shame, because I really enjoyed this movie! It’s a rock n’rolling good time of color, energy, bone-crunches and girl power!

Movie Rating: 8/10 – Very Good.
Birds of Prey is in a really weird place. DC has long since abandoned their dreams of a DC Cinematic Universe, but Margot Robbie was so good as Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad that they’re not ready to give her up. So what do you do? You forge ahead with Birds of Prey and hope for the best! And for me, they did a great job! Birds of Prey is a wildly entertaining film that makes great use of Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn. It also makes great use of the R-rating, delivering an action movie that specializes in being as hard-hitting as possible. It adds an extra level of fun to an already entertaining film.

Oh no, wait, Warner Bros. has since changed the name to just Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey in the hopes of having a better second weekend. So let’s go with that!

It’s Birds of Prey weekend! I was trapped in a snowstorm yesterday, so I haven’t seen the film yet, but it’s definitely on my docket for this weekend! And I’ll have my review/thoughts at the usual place on Wednesday! Too bad I didn’t read any Birds of Prey-related comics…
But I did enjoy new issues of Marauders, Lois Lane and Batman! So at least that’s something. Comic Book of the Week goes to the stellar debut of Zeb Wells’ new Ant-Man mini-series! Hilarious and fun all in one!
Meanwhile, the big X-Men/Fantastic Four Dawn of X crossover kicked off this week and it was fine. The X-Men really come off as jerks…and then the Fantastic Four kind of comic off as jerks. It’s not a good showing for anybody. I feel like the X-Men could handle superhero diplomacy a little better if they really want to solidify their new status quo.
Comic Reviews: Ant-Man #1, Batman #88, Doctor Doom #5, Lois Lane #8, Magnificent Ms. Marvel #12 and Marauders #7.

Man, what a stinker of a week. Last week was amazing, with some of my favorite comics! But this week is a bit of a let down, I’m afraid. New issues of X-Men, New Mutants and Blackstars failed to impressed.
Comic Book of the Week goes to Thor #2 for a pretty cool issue, though I had some personal nitpicks against it. Simply put, Galactus is cooler than Thor, in my opinion.
Meanwhile, the new issue of Go Go Power Rangers is a stand alone that, honestly, didn’t really say much about the ongoing series or the characters. Seemed like a bit of filler. It told an OK story of Rita Repulsa, but not one that really fleshed her out in any way or added to the overall narrative. But we did get the introduction of Goldar’s warrior brother, Silverback. I immediately want more about the two of them together!
Comic Reviews: Green Lantern: Blackstars #3, New Mutants #6, Scream: Curse of Carnage #3, Thor #2 and X-Men #5.

Oh man, what a great week for comics! Some of my current favorites came out this week, including phenomenal new issues of Far Sector and Wonder Twins! Those are probably my two favorite DC comics right now.
Comic Book of the Week goes to Mighty Moprhin Power Rangers #47 for a great issue that features a moment of real poignancy.
Meanwhile, BOOM! Studios has decided to cancel Go Go Power Rangers. This is a damn shame, because it’s a great comic. But after the shakeup a couple issues ago, both Go Go and Mighty Morphin are a bit redundant, so this move makes sense.
Comic Reviews: Batman #87, Far Sector #3, Marauders #6, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #47 and Wonder Twins #11.

New comic books are here! And they’re pretty awesome this week! New issues of Go Go Power Rangers and Jane Foster: Valkyrie prove once again why I love comics! But as great as they are, there was an issue that was just a touch more special this week.
Comic Book of the Week goes to Legion of Super-Heroes #3 because it’s a fun issue, and that is surprising. It’s not the best and most interesting comic this week, but the new Legion issue does something I didn’t expect: finally warrants its own existence.
Meanwhile, new Dawn of X comics keep getting announced left and right. I’m still worried that all of these comics are just classic X-Men titles with random rosters, just like every other X-Men relaunch…but then Jonathan Hickman posted on Twitter that nobody is required to buy them all. Just buy what you like, and don’t buy what you don’t. That’s pretty solid advice.
Comic Reviews: Go Go Power Rangers #27, Iron Man 2020 #1, Legion of Super-Heroes #3, Runaways #27 and Valkyrie #7.
