Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 11/6/21
Welcome to Eternals opening weekend! By the time you read this, I will have hopefully seen the new MCU movie. I have my hopes up, despite the split response from critics. I’ll see this one for myself, and then my full review/thoughts will go up on Wednesday. It’s a pretty light week for new comics for me regardless.
Comic Book of the Week goes to Dark Knights of Steel #1 because it’s a fun comic, though not without some faults. I like a good alternate reality story and Tom Taylor is a great talent.
Meanwhile, I’ve started watching the second season of The Owl House on Disney+ and it is as delightful as the first. Highly recommend that show. The rest of my week was spent on near 12-hour work days, so not much time for anything else I’m afraid. I did see The French Dispatch and loved it, so at least I had that going for me this week.
Comic Reviews: Batman #116, Darkhawk #3 and Dark Knights of Steel #1.

Very interesting week in comics for me. Not a big week, but some issues that show very stark differences in what I like to see in a new comic vs. what I don’t like to see. I think there is a world of difference between how Marvel is presenting the new Amazing Spider-Man vs. how DC is presenting the new Wonder Girl.
Comic Book of the Week goes to Inferno #2 for a whole heck of a lot of really good character work starring all our favorite X-Men.
Meanwhile, I’m finally watching season 5 of The Expanse and it is wonderful. I love this show so much! And season 6 is right around the corner! And I’m still playing Back 4 Blood and having a blast killing zombies and leveling up. Things are good. Today I’m heading out to go see The French Dispatch in a theater about an hour away. I hope it’s worth the extra drive.
Comic Reviews: Amazing Spider-Man #77, Inferno #2, S.W.O.R.D. #9 and Wonder Girl #4.

Here we go! Another week of good comics. Another week around this Earth. Another week of the usual stuff. Lots of comics this week, especially from DC. Batman, Black Manta, Superman; it’s a real juicy pile!
Comic Book of the Week goes to Nightwing #85 for an issue rich in character and heart, even as it ties into a bigger story.
Meanwhile, I have been having a pretty crap week. Just one headache on top of another on top of a literal headache. But still I soldier on. Finally got to play Back 4 Blood with a full crew of my friends. I’ve been having a lot of fun with that game. I finally got back into reading Invincible after watching the TV show. That’s going nicely. And a new bookstore opened in my town, and they are selling Gamer Girl & Vixen comics! So that’s a hoot.
Comic Reviews: Batman #115, Black Manta #2, Nightwing #85, Superman: Son of Kal-El #4, Thor #18, X-Men: The Trial of Magneto #3.

Interesting week for comics this week! My only Big Two comics are two of the biggest comics ever: Batman and Amazing Spider-Man. I mix that up with some Power Rangers greatness and a peek at a Comixology Original by Scott Snyder, with We Have Demons!
Comic Book of the Week goes to Mighty Morphin #12 for another phenomenal issue! Heck, this issue is still just the set-up for the next big event, but it’s so much fun to read! Ryan Parrott is a master of weaving interesting character drama, and he butts a lot of really fun heads together in this issue.
Meanwhile, I finally watched Invincible on Amazon Prime and that show was just perfect! I’ve only read the first chunk or so of the actual comic, and a lot of that was covered in this first season. So that was fun. But the show itself is a real stand out. Everything is so well-crafted, and the showrunners (and probably Robert Kirkman himself) did a great job condensing everything into a workable TV show. Highly recommended. I also enjoyed the season finale for What If…? Expect my full review and thoughts on Wednesday.
Comic Reviews: Amazing Spider-Man #75, Batman #114, Mighty Morphin #12 and We Have Demons #1.
