Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 6/27/15

It’s another solid week for DC Comics! After the mess of Convergence, they have come out smelling like roses with new comics, new directions and a new sense of fun. I only hope Marvel has the same kind of response to Secret Wars, though Marvel was doing fine before they started their summer-long crossover.

This week sees new issues of Aquaman, Batgirl and Grayson, and the debut of We Are Robin, the comic I was most looking forward to with DC’s new rebranding. Does it live up to the hype? Mostly. It’s a relatively sparse first issue, but it starts laying some important groundwork.

Comic Book of the Week goes to Batgirl #41. No big changes here, just more Batgirl goodness.

Go with him if you want to live

Comic Reviews: Aquaman #41, Batgirl #41, Grayson #9, Ninjak #4 and We Are Robin #1.

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 6/20/15

Sometimes I just can’t help myself. There are weeks when I tell myself to keep the Hench-Sized reviews under control, that you fine readers can’t handle me rambling for so long and so intensely! But this week was filled with great comics! DC continues to pump out some fun titles with their rebranding, and a few of my favorite indie comics were in my stack. This was a good week.

Comic Book of the Week was a hard one, but I think I’m going to give it to Justice League of America #1. The new series is written and drawn by Bryan Hitch, and is a great example of DC’s new style. Bucking the constraints of up-to-the-minute continuity, the new Justice League is just a straight forward, fun adventure by my favorite comic book artist. It’s a good launch.

Everybody loves diplomatic sessions

Unfortunately, Marvel Comics remains mired in Secret Wars. Even the great Ms. Marvel is now tied into that event. I skipped that new issue this week before it’s basically just Kamala Khan running around trying to be a hero while the world falls apart. The next issue is the one to watch out for, when she finally teams up with Captain Marvel!

Speaking of Secret Wars, I took a look at Squadron Sinister #1 at Word of the Nerd. It’s pretty much a dud.

Comic Reviews: Black Canary #1, Justice League of America #1, Kaijumax #3, Lumberjanes #15, Prez #1, Robin: Son of Batman #1 and Secret Six #3.

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 6/13/15

The final weekend to pre-order Gamer Girl & Vixen is in full swing, and we’ve almost hit our first stretch goal! If you’d like to get your own copy of my comic, now’s the time!

But besides that, we’ve got other comics to talk about this week too! DC continues to try and re-invent their image, and so far they’ve been pretty successful! I loved the new Batman introduced this week, and the new Starfire comic is off to a good start. Over at Marvel, Secret Wars continues to dominate, but I’ve squeaked out reviews for Silver Surfer and Silk.

Comic Book of the Week goes to Batman #41 for a fantastic introduction to the new, armored Batman. Bring on the robot!

It’s my blog, and I say YES!

Now I can’t wait to read We Are Robin!

Over at Word of the Nerd, I continue my Secret Wars coverage with a review of Ghost Racers #1. It’s a nifty little comic, though nothing to write home about.

Comic Reviews: Batman #41, Harley Quinn #17, Silk #5, Silver Surfer #12 and Starfire #1.

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 6/6/15

Good news, everyone! The Gamer Girl & Vixen Kickstarter hit it’s goal yesterday! I’m going to get to make my comic! Woohoo! And you’re all still welcome to head on over and pre-order your copies of Gamer Girl & Vixen! Big thanks, of course, to you Henchies you already have. You peeps are the best!

Meanwhile, I’ve got a mega stack of other comics to review this week! After last week’s super dinky pile of comics, and considering DC is finally done with Convergence, I decided to just go nuts today and review a heck ton of comics! I’m really surprised with myself…and may have overdone it a little bit. We’ve got Action Comics, Bizarro, and Green Lantern, as well as a whole bunch of Marvel comics to boot! If you like reading Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews, then today you get your fill!

Comic Book of the Week goes to that wonderful, that delightful, Unbeatable Squirrel Girl! There’s just nothing funnier!

There’s a man that probably hates his job

Over at Word of the Nerd, you can check out my review of Secret Wars #3. That series is humming along nicely. I’m reading a few of the tie-ins, but none of them are in this review stack, unfortunately. There were just too many worthy regular comics to read.

Comic Reviews: Action Comics #41, All-New X-Men #41, Bizarro #1, Darth Vader #6, Green Lantern #41, Princess Leia #4, Spider-Woman #8, Star Wars #6 and Unbeatable Squirrel Girl #6.

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 5/30/15

Slow week for comics this week…or at the very least, slow week for comic book reviews from your pal and mine, Henchman-4-Hire…which is me! Anyway, what I’m trying to say is that I mostly sorta kinda dropped the ball and simply didn’t read that many comics this week.

Though I have been busy running my Kickstarter campaign for Gamer Girl & Vixen! We’re at more than 75% funded and going strong! Not too late for you Henchies to check it out and get on your favorite blogger’s good side! Wink, wink, nudge, nudge.

Other than that, I took this week to check out some less mainstream titles. There’s the first issue of Surface Tension from Titan Comics, the last issue of Divinity from Valiant Comics, and I decided to double back and check out a comic I missed from last week, the new Lumberjanes! I figured they earned it, what with a possible movie coming out!

Though since I need to stick to this week’s comics, I’d have to say Comic Book of the Week goes to Divinity #4! Writer Matt Kindt concludes a solid introduction to a new Valiant hero.

Cosmonauts are tougher than you think!

Over at Word of the Nerd, I’m still doing my best to keep abreast of Secret Wars with a review of Old Man Logan #1. Now that was a great comic. And next week I promise to get back to reviewing more books. I think Convergence is over at DC Comics, so I’m going to dive into as many of their new, offbeat titles as I can!

Comic Reviews: Divinity #4, Lumberjanes #14 and Surface Tension #1.
