The Valiant Cinematic Universe Begins with Bloodshot!
I’m no fan of Valiant Comics. I’ve read a couple of titles here and there, but none have been able to stick with me. So I’m at least vaguely aware of some of their characters. I for sure know about Bloodshot, and he’s getting a movie!
Two trailers were released today.
The movie looks pretty good. Looks tough, looks like it has some charm. Though you’ll notice that Bloodshot’s iconic look — seen here — doesn’t show up at all in either trailer. I’m all for Vin Diesel, but you’re not even going to show us comic book Bloodshot in the trailers for the Bloodshot movie? Surely we’ve reached a point where studios aren’t afraid to actually show the superhero in the trailer. Granted, they didn’t show Venom in the first Venom trailer…but c’mon! People know Venom. Nobody knows Bloodshot.
But who am I to talk? The Bloodshot movie comes out on Feb. 21. Normally February is a dumping ground for bad movies, but studios have been seeking to reclaim February for years now.
And perhaps Valiant hits this one out of the park! Maybe this will be the start of the Valiant Cinematic Universe! Then we can get movies about X-O Manowar, Harbinger and perhaps even Faith! I would think Faith would be a solid option for a film. Valiant could score some points with a light-hearted flick about a plus-sized superhero. That hasn’t been done before, and Valiant is the one comic company poised to make it work.
We’ll see how all of this shakes out in February!

Sure, Paul Dano is the New Riddler
Batman movie casting news keeps pouring in! Now we’ve got Paul Dano as the Riddler!
I like Paul Dano. He was great in one of my favorite movies, Little Miss Sunshine. I’m sure he’ll be a great Riddler. I’m really liking how this movie is shaping up. We’re supposed to get a Penguin, too, if they can land the casting. I like the idea of just having a bunch of classic villains in the movie. Break the cycle of all Batman movies needing to focus on some prestige villain showing up!

Sure, Zoe Kravitz is the New Catwoman
New casting news has arrived in the form of Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman in the upcoming Batman movie reboot. We’ve already got Robert Pattinson confirmed as Batman, and now Kravtiz as Catwoman!
Fine by me.
I’ve seen Kravitz in a couple of things, but mostly small roles, so I don’t have much of an opinion one way or another. I’m sure she’ll be great!
I think rumor was that Jonah Hill passed on playing the Penguin. Another rumor is that a bunch of villains will be in this film, which is a great way to do it. I’d really like to see this new series of films take a bigger picture approach to making Batman movies. We don’t need a bunch of one-off films that focus on a new villain being introduced and killed. Give us a world like the comics, where Batman exists and his Rogues Gallery exists and this is just another Batman adventure.
Obviously this new world can have its changes, and that’s fine. But we all know everything there is to know about Batman. We don’t need more artsy Batman movies. Give us some fun Batman movies. We all loved it when Ben Affleck was allowed to just cut loose and be Batman. So we don’t need an origin story. We don’t need a villain origin story. Batman: The Animated Series got by for years telling fun stories in an already prepared Batman universe. Let’s do that…but in movies.
Also, give us a Robin. Just have him be there. He doesn’t need an explicitly stated origin story either. We all know the story. But give Batman a cool sidekick. Is that too much to ask?

It’s Monday, I’m on Vacation, Let’s Just Take It Easy
Let’s ease into our lives this morning with a bit of fun parody video. The fine folks at Honest Trailers have done up Spider-Man: Far From Home. It was a fine movie, and it’s out on DVD! So let’s all enjoy its fineness.
Ah, that’s some good, quality content. More than enough to sustain my need for entertainment on this fine Monday. But I’m off from work, got no responsibilities and I think I’ll go play some video games and relax. You all have a good day.

6 Thoughts on Joker
I am 100% in favor of DC Comics and Warner Bros. breaking away from the Marvel Moviemaking Mold and going in their own direction. I’m all in favor of them doing stand alone, psychological movies or stand alone comedies or stand alone superhero movies. As long as they keep putting out good, solid movies, I’ll probably be happy. But considering that it’s DC and Warner Bros., there’s always the chance they’ll put out a movie I don’t like — which brings us to Joker.
Movie Rating: 5/10 – Alright.
My movie reviews are 100% subjective. I’m not a film critic. I didn’t study film. I couldn’t tell you anything about cinematography and how it effects whatever. I watch movies to be entertained and enjoy a good story and performances. That’s how I judge movies, and it’s entirely on me. And with that in mind, Joker is not my kind of movie. It’s not what I’m looking for, it’s not something I enjoyed. I just didn’t like Joker, but I can recognize that it was a well-made film that successfully gets its message across.
Join me after the jump for my full thoughts on why I didn’t like it, but still understand it!
