6 Things I Want to See in the Shang-Chi Sequel
Marvel Studios officially announced a sequel to Shang-Chi and the Legend of Ten Rings this week after signing director Destin Daniel Cretton to a new contract. That’s great news! Shang-Chi was an awesome flick and there is a ton of sequel potential. Simu Liu, Awkwafina and the whole enterprise are ripe for becoming a new corner stone of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. I am here for it.
So what’s a sequel going to feature? Shang-Chi has almost zero comic book lore to draw from. Marvel has tried again and again to give him some stories, some background and some anything, but none of it has ever really cracked the comic book consciousness. And The Legend of the Ten Rings came up with a lot of its own original mythology and lore anyway. So the canvas is wide open to come up with plenty of ideas and directions. That’s great and all, but a comic book dork like me knows a lot of Marvel stuff to draw from for a sequel!
Join me after the jump for new ideas, concepts, characters and developments I want to see in the Shang-Chi sequel! And feel free to share your own ideas in the comments below!

I’m back to not knowing what to make of The Matrix Resurrections. It’s definitely going to be a big movie, with a lot of sound and thunder. But will it be its own movie? Or will it just be a loose remake of the first film? The Deju Vu trailer had been pondering the mysteries of Resurrections. This new trailer, released today, has me assuming it’s all just shouting and explosions.
I’m also, for sure, missing that cool rendition of “White Rabbit” by Jefferson Airplane. Say what you will about music in movie trailers, but I remain a huge fan of using popular songs in fun aways, even when they’re slow, somber covers of peppier songs.
I just think this was a less interesting trailer than everything we’ve seen so far. Who knows what the heck this movie is going to be in the end. But I suppose we’ll find out on Dec. 22.

Behold Our First Look at Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is inarguably the greatest Spider-Man movie of all time, and could be the greatest movie of all time. So a sequel was inevitable and it’s coming next year! The first teaser trailer/look arrived yesterday and it looks neat as heck.
Part One? So this is going to be a two-part movie? Fascinating.
If I’m being honest, I think the name is a little problematic. “Across the Spider-Verse”? So we’re supposed to differentiate these movies for all time based only on the words “Into” and “Across” And then “Across 1” and “Across 2”? Sounds like madness to me!
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Part One arrives in October 2022!

OK Matrix Resurrections, You Have My Attention
A new short trailer for The Matrix Resurrections came out yesterday and it has for sure caught my attention. Up until this trailer, I’ve been assuming that Resurrections will be like The Force Awakens, like some kind of simple recreation of the first Matrix movie. But maybe that’s the point…
One take away from this trailer might be that the studio and filmmakers are so crass that they want people to believe this is a recreation of the first film, and that’s why they should watch it. Resurrections will be safe and simple.
But my take away from this trailer is that Resurrections has something deeper and cooler going on, and the resemblance to the first film is an intentional swerve. Maybe it’s going to take a meta approach to the very idea of that resemblance and really blow our minds. So I’m going to keep my hopes up for this second interpretation!
The Matrix Resurrections comes to theaters on Dec. 22.

6 Super-Animals Who Deserve a Spot in DC League of Super-Pets
Two major things have come together to produce this list. One was a List of Six I did a couple of weeks ago, detailing all of the modern super-animals in the Marvel Universe who would make fun additions to the Pet Avengers. The other is the recent trailer for the animated film DC League of Super-Pets, starring Dwayne Johnson as Krypto. We’ve known about this movie for some time now, but what we didn’t know was that this so-called “League of Super-Pets” doesn’t actually feature real DC Universe super-pets! Scandal!
Based on the trailer, the movie stars Krypto and then a bunch of random animals created for the film. There’s a dog who looks like Ace the Bat-Hound, but he’s not. Then there’s a pig, a turtle and a hyperactive squirrel, because kids love hyperactive squirrels. Why did the filmmakers go this route? Why create brand new super-animals? DC Comics has a whole plethora of wild and awesome super-pets to choose from. Granted, they don’t have a hyperactive squirrel who shoots lightning, but what important role are these specific super-animals going to bring to the film that necessitates their creation? Bah humbug, I say!
Join me after the jump as we explore existing DC Comics super-animals who deserve to be voiced by Kevin Hart in League of Super-Pets!
