Fantastic Beasts Movies Are Still Going
Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore is coming! And proof that nobody originally intended this to be a 5-movie epic is that “Fantastic Beasts” umbrella. It just doesn’t work anymore. But who am I to judge? I’m not making movies. I’m just sitting here amazed that somebody in power feels this franchise has legs.
I did not like the last Fantastic Beasts movie. I have zero interest in Dumbledore’s secret brother. This franchise has one job: just tell more stories in the Harry Potter Universe. And yet two films in, it’s already upturned the table and is just gonna go hog wild doing whatever it wants. More power to it, I suppose.
Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore arrives in theaters on April 15.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is Just Going For It!
I wasn’t much of a fan of the first live action Sonic the Hedgehog movie. I suppose it was fine, but it also largely just nestled up against a bunch of “live action cartoon adaptation” tropes. Just wasn’t for me. But now the sequel is on the way, and it’s got Tails and Knuckles, so I’m in!
Knuckles is one of my all-time favorite video game characters, and he looks awesome in this trailer! Voiced by Idris Elba and getting one really amazing line, Knuckles is gonna steal the show, baby! This trailer looks like Sonic 2 is ready and willing to go whole-hog into the lore and the characters. I can get behind that sort of madness.
Tails is also cool.
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 arrives in theaters on April 8.

Let’s Mock Venom: Let There Be Carnage a Little Bit
Now is a good time to poke some fun at Venom: Let There Be Carnage. Remember that movie? Came out a little while ago? It came out long enough ago that the internet’s various movie mocksters have gone ahead and produced their YouTube videos. And they make for nice easy shares on this random Thursday.
For example, how about an Honest Trailer?
Always a treat. Leave it to those nice people to take a movie down a few notches.
And then we’ve got How Venom: Let There Be Carnage Should Have Ended.
It’s a good, enjoyable way to use the internet. And soon Venom: Let There Be Carnage will fade into forgotten media…until Venom shows up in Spider-Man: No Way Home next week.
At this point, anything is possible.

6 Things I Want to See in the Shang-Chi Sequel
Marvel Studios officially announced a sequel to Shang-Chi and the Legend of Ten Rings this week after signing director Destin Daniel Cretton to a new contract. That’s great news! Shang-Chi was an awesome flick and there is a ton of sequel potential. Simu Liu, Awkwafina and the whole enterprise are ripe for becoming a new corner stone of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. I am here for it.
So what’s a sequel going to feature? Shang-Chi has almost zero comic book lore to draw from. Marvel has tried again and again to give him some stories, some background and some anything, but none of it has ever really cracked the comic book consciousness. And The Legend of the Ten Rings came up with a lot of its own original mythology and lore anyway. So the canvas is wide open to come up with plenty of ideas and directions. That’s great and all, but a comic book dork like me knows a lot of Marvel stuff to draw from for a sequel!
Join me after the jump for new ideas, concepts, characters and developments I want to see in the Shang-Chi sequel! And feel free to share your own ideas in the comments below!
Read the rest of this entryNew The Matrix Resurrections Trailer is Less Interesting
I’m back to not knowing what to make of The Matrix Resurrections. It’s definitely going to be a big movie, with a lot of sound and thunder. But will it be its own movie? Or will it just be a loose remake of the first film? The Deju Vu trailer had been pondering the mysteries of Resurrections. This new trailer, released today, has me assuming it’s all just shouting and explosions.
I’m also, for sure, missing that cool rendition of “White Rabbit” by Jefferson Airplane. Say what you will about music in movie trailers, but I remain a huge fan of using popular songs in fun aways, even when they’re slow, somber covers of peppier songs.
I just think this was a less interesting trailer than everything we’ve seen so far. Who knows what the heck this movie is going to be in the end. But I suppose we’ll find out on Dec. 22.
