Characters Galore in Spider-Man: Brand New Day Trailer!

The first trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day arrived this morning and it is chockful of characters. Can you spot them all? A lot of them were spoiled due to leaks, but their arrival is still fun. See for yourself!

It’s an OK trailer. It’s a little all over the place. I’ve never personally been a fan of the spider-mutation stuff, but it’s still classic Spider-Man, so there’s no point in fighting it. I love me some Scorpion, so I’m glad he’s here. And the other villains I’ve heard about should be a hoot! Then Punisher! Bruce Banner! The…the Hand?!

I like the grounded nature of the story so far, though it does butt up against the weird choice at the end of the previous movie where Peter Parker uses a magic spell to make everybody forget he exists. Part of me hoped he’d actually move on and make new friends, but perhaps he can try his luck chasing after his old friends. By all means.

Looks good.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day will arrive in theaters on July 31.

So The Super Mario Galaxy Movie…

My memory is pretty bad these days, but I don’t think I cared for the first animated Mario movie. I don’t remember why, particularly. Of course, the film wasn’t for me. It’s for kids, and they loved it, and now it’s got a sequel coming out. And I’ll definitely see it, maybe even in theaters. I haven’t decided.

It looks fine…but it also just looks like the first movie. The animation hasn’t changed. It’s still colorful and energetic and super fun. And we recently found out that Donald Glover will be voicing Yoshi. I am very interested to see how that’s going to work. Is he going to do a Vin Diesel as Groot thing? Will Yoshi actually talk like Donald Glover?! I’m dying to find out. I still don’t like Chris Pratt as Mario.

We’ll see in a few weeks! The Super Mario Galaxy Movie comes out on April 1!

The Mortal Kombat II Movie is Going For It

I did not care for the first modern Mortal Kombat movie. It was a dark, grungy mess that made a lot of weird story and lore choices. I’m a big MK lore nerd, and it all bugged me. But…yeah…I’m probably gonna go see Mortal Kombat II in the theaters. Why not?

I find it hilarious that this trailer could just as easily fit a first movie in the franchise. After the utter failure that was Cole Young as a protagonist in the first movie, this sequel is just going to start over again and bring in Johnny Cage as the neophyte who has to be introduced to the world of Mortal Kombat. Madness and hilarity.

At least my favorite character from the first film is coming back. Hopefully that leads to some entertainment value.

Also, sadly, no Smoke…at least from the look so far. Though considering how afraid these movies seem to be to put their ninjas in actual color-coded costume, any masked dude could be Smoke…

Mortal Kombat II comes to theaters on May 8.

Super Bowl Trailers Are Always a Hoot

Last night was the Super Bowl and I didn’t watch because I never watch. Instead, I finally saw Edgar Wright’s The Running Man. It wasn’t that good. I haven’t been a big fan of Wright’s post-Simon Pegg work. But I had a fine and entertaining night, because all the good trailers end up on YouTube pretty much immediately.

So let’s watch a bunch of them!

Like Project Hail Mary. This one should be good. From the writer of The Martian, directed by Lord and Miller. This should be a blast! Don’t watch this trailer, though, if you don’t wany any movie spoilers whatsoever.

I think Project Hail Mary looks really good and should be a treat to watch. It’s got as good a filmmaking pedigree as any movie can in this day and age. And it’s a big space epic. Should be fun.

Project Hail Mary comes to theaters on March 20.

Speaking of space movies, how about Steven Spielberg’s Disclosure Day. No real spoilers in this trailer.

I have no idea what this movie is about. Aliens? Invasion? They’re already among us? Your guess is as good as mine. I don’t even know if I’m gonna go see this one in the theaters. I suppose I’ll wait and see what the public reaction is like.

Disclosure Day comes to theaters on June 12.

Next up is…um…Minions & Monsters.

What is even happening? I’m no Minions completionist. I think there might be a Despicable Me I’ve missed. Perhaps I’ve even missed a Minions movie or two. I dunno. But wow. That trailer was all over the place and just sorta weird. But I suppose that might also be the point…

Minions & Monsters comes to theaters on July 1.

The He-Man Movie is Just Going For It, Baby!

I watched He-Man and the Masters of the Universe back in the day and had several of the toys. I was an ’80s kid. I barely remember the first movie attempt, also in the 80s. And I’ve enjoyed all of the various reboots I’ve seen over the years (haven’t seen them all). And now Hollywood is trying again with a Masters of the Universe movie. We haven’t seen too much of the film so far…so brace yourselves for this first trailer.

Hooboy, they’re just going for it. Like, they’re slowing down a little bit by having Prince Adam start on Earth, but when they show all the Eternia stuff, it’s just…damn. They’re not holding back! We’ve got Cringer for real. We’ve got Skeletor looking more Skeletor than he’s possibly ever looked! Idris Elba is Man-At-Arms! Fisto is in this!

The age of black leather costumes is past. Now is the age of embracing the insanity and letting it all hang out! And I am here for it! Hopefully we get Ram Man.

Masters of the Universe comes to theaters on June 5.
