Movie Trailer Wednesday: Mayday and Digger

The Odyssey is coming out this weekend and a lot of new movie trailers have arrived so that they can be attached to The Odyssey. Or maybe they’re just coming out for the fun of it? I don’t know how movie trailer releases work, despite being a big fan of movie trailers for 30+ years. Oh well. These two came out yesterday and I wanted to share.

First up is Mayday, an action comedy starring Ryan Reynolds and Kenneth Branagh coming to AppleTV.

I think it looks great! Looks like a ton of fun. I have no turned on Ryan Reynolds like most people, so I’m all in favor of this. The biggest pull is that the film is directed by John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein. These are the geniuses behind Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, with some solid writing credits under their belts. These guys make good movies, so I’m definitely keeping an eye on Mayday, and you should too.

Mayday comes to AppleTV on Sept. 4.

Next up is Digger, this super important Tom Cruise movie. I saw the Digger teaser trailer ahead of a movie in theaters a few weeks ago, and the trailer was like 5 full minutes of glazing Tom Cruise’s career. So I guess everything has been building to Digger?

It looks neat. Looks like a smart satire, which I always enjoy. And it’s got John Goodman, so that’s great. I guess it just looks like a big, important, funny movie that will use star power to stay something powerful? I dunno. I just thought it was a trailer worth sharing.

Digger comes to theaters on Oct. 2.

I’ll Probably Watch Ted Lasso Season 4

I enjoyed Ted Lasso, just like everybody else. But I was definitely over it by season 3. The show became too much about sniffing its own farts, if I’m using that phrase correctly. Everybody that made the first season so amazing dipped out to make Shrinking (which is amazing!), and season 3 just wasn’t all that good. But you can’t keep a good Ted Lasso down…

I’ll watch it. Whatever. I don’t need to be cynical. If they make it, I’ll watch it. This isn’t like the Scrubs revival, some 20 years later. Considering how many years pass between TV seasons nowadays, it’s not even that weird that Ted Lasso season 4 is three years after season 3. And I like the idea of Ted spearheading a female team. I always expected that one girl in his neighborhood to do something eventually. I hope it’s that same girl.

Ted Lasso season 4 arrives on AppleTV on August 5.

Here’s Another Trailer for Monarch: Legacy of Monsters

There’s a second season coming up for Monarch: Legacy of Monsters soon. And to advertise such a thing, the TV producers have released another trailer. It shows monsters, actors, stories and the stakes. Seems like something a trailer should and normally do.

I dunno how I feel about this one. I think I liked the first season. I think I also felt that the first season went a little off the rails in places. And I think I felt it successfully landed the ending. I dunno. It doesn’t matter. I’ll watch this show because it’s Godzilla. There’s going to be a big new monster, and Godzilla and Kong will need to team up…so…like all the most recent movies?

I like the idea that this season will be about one really big, really bad monster and that could drive the season. The first season was about a bunch of different monsters as the main characters moved around the world, with no real monster focal point. So this could be a good way to do a second season.

Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season 2 is coming to Apple TV on Feb. 27.
