Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 8/15/15

I am very pleased to announce that the first two issues of Gamer Girl & Vixen are done! We’ll be sending them off to the printers soon, so anyone who ordered a copy through our Kickstarter will get them this fall. But we’re also going to be offering the digital issues online in this upcoming week! I can’t wait until people are actually reading my comic!

As for regular comics, we’ve got a bunch of winners this week, from Superman to Batman to Starfire!

Comic Book of the Week goes to Unbeatable Squirrel Girl, yet again. I’m like a broken record at this point. I want to give other books a chance, but nothing touches me like Squirrel Girl these days!

I will never be able to say the word ‘nuts’ the same way again

Over at Word of the Nerd, I continue my coverage with Secret Wars #5. We’re past the halfway mark of this big series, but for some reason, writer Jonathan Hickman decided to take a breather to remind people of some of the backstory. Odd choice.

Comic Reviews: Action Comics #43, Batman #43, Gotham Academy #9, Starfire #3 and Unbeatable Squirrel Girl #8.

6 Other Fantastic Four Failures

I haven’t seen the new Fant4stic movie yet, and I don’t think I will at this point. I never had high hopes for this thing, but based on the reviews and all the behind-the-scenes scuttlebutt, it looks like this thing was doomed from the start. And honestly? Good. The Fantastic Four are being offered up as a sacrifice in the war between Marvel and Fox.

FOX has already said they’re moving ahead with the sequel; the spite is strong

I honestly don’t care if Marvel ever gets the rights back to these characters. The Fantastic Four are toxic thanks to four really crappy movies. Even if it would be great marketing to add the Fantastic Four to Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, I kind of hope it just doesn’t happen. Let this movie be a final nail in the coffin.

And just for fun, I decided to put together a List of Six of the first few nails in that coffin. This Fant4stic movie is not the only failed adaptation the Marvel’s First Family has ever seen. Join me after the jump, if you dare!

New Howard the Duck Trailer!

Do you want to see Howard the Duck show up again in the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Your wish has been granted!

Heheh, good times. This was made by New York Magazine, which seems pretty hoity toity. But good Internet is good Internet.

Amazing Thor vs. Hulk Animated Fan-Film is Cure for Monday Blues!

Remember earlier, when I was griping about finding stuff to share on my blog? Well forget it! The Internet has most definitely delivered with this awesome and awesomely animated fan-film!

Milton Pool and his team at Miltonius Arts are some pretty skilled folks! At the very least, they’ve got the boob jiggle down. But at least their hearts are mostly in the right place. Costume aside, this is one badass brawl between Thor and an evil, zombie Hulk! Good way to spend an afternoon.

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 8/8/15

For some odd reason, this was another light week for comics for me. But this time, rather than focusing on DC Comics, it’s Marvel with the two books out that I actually read. Weird. But hey, less work for me to do to review! That’s got to count for something.

Along with the latest issue of Bloodshot Reborn from Valiant Comics, Marvel drops the fun-two punch of Darth Vader and Ms. Marvel, the latter of which easily snags Comic Book of the Week. The fun, touching story of Kamala Khan teaming up with her namesake easily defeats the Dark Lord of the Sith.

Teamwork!

Over at Word of the Nerd, I read and reviewed the third issue of Giant-Size Little Marvel: AvX, and it was a blast! Skottie Young is just having a lot of fun with his tie-in, which is probably the most appropriate way to reference Avengers vs. X-Men from now on.

Comic Reviews: Bloodshot Reborn #5, Darth Vader #8 and Ms. Marvel #17.
