6 Things I Want to See in the Runaways TV Show

Fancy that, there’s going to be a Runaways TV show! Marvel announced the teenage cast last week, making it pretty darn likely that the show will really come to Hulu in the near future. Runaways has been in consideration as a movie for a long time, but a TV show might be the best bet! It’s not Neflix, but it still works.

Once upon a time, they were kings and queens of the comic world

I was a fan of the Runaways back in the day. They’re a really great idea and the characters will fit nicely into the Marvel Universe. The story has twists, romance, craziness and plenty of good stuff to make a TV show. No doubt pre-production is already underway, but I’d like to think the Marvel Studios people read my blog excessively to get some ideas!

Join me after the jump for six things I want in the Runaways TV show!

New Iron Fist Trailer Is Something!

Maybe it’s the sore throat, sniffles and runny nose talking, but this new Iron Fist trailer doesn’t get me too pumped for the upcoming show. Which is a shame, because the Marvel Netflix shows have been on point!

The problem with this trailer is that it doesn’t show us anything new or interesting to get us excited about Iron Fist. This should have been a story trailer, letting us know what the show is actually going to be about. But this trailer is almost completely about Danny Rand as a person, without getting into his powers, his mystical training or, honestly, anything at all about him. They tease his powers briefly at the end, and it’s the most exciting part of the trailer.

They name-drop K’un-Lun, but they don’t explain at all why it’s a place we’ll want to visit. It comes off like a generic martial arts monastery. They show Danny fighting, but what modern action hero isn’t a highly trained martial artist these days? They show Colleen Wing, but don’t do anything with her. They tease Madame Gao, but only by simply showing us that she’s on the show.

And most importantly, where is the villain? The Netflix shows have all had hugely impressive villains, for the most part. But we don’t get a hint of anything like that in Iron Fist, unless you count that one generic white guy businessman who showed up in the beginning. But who cares about him?

This is inexcusable! Iron Fist has some great villains! And even if he doesn’t, they can’t even show us an evil martial arts master? Where is Steel Serpent? Or even Fat Cobra?

Iron Fist might be the hardest sell of all the Marvel Netflix shows, and if this is the last trailer we get before the show launches next month, then Marvel better hope they’ve got a hidden gem here.

I mean, I’m totally gonna watch it. I just think they should have upped their trailer game this close to the premiere.

Why I’m Not Fired Up About Logan

Everybody is super excited for Logan, the third solo Wolverine movie that comes out later this year. They’re excited for the R rating. They’re excited for the gritting realism. They’re excited for X-23. They’re excited for the movie.

But I’m not.

The reason I am not excited is because I just don’t have any more faith in the X-Men franchise, especially not the solo Wolverine movies. X-Men: Apocalypse, X-Men: Days of Future Past and The Wolverine have all been largely generic action movies. And all of the trailers for Logan, no matter how many slow, somber songs they put over them, look like they’re promoting a generic action movie.

I would love a deep, somber, meaningful movie about Wolverine. Bring it on! But I’m pretty sure all these slow songs are just smoke and mirrors, and Logan is just going to be a movie about Wolverine and X-23 cutting through Reavers the whole time.

I Am Definitely Fired Up About Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2!

Instead of the Super Bowl, I watched a Jack Reacher double feature last night. If you haven’t seen them yet, don’t bother. You’re not missing anything.

And since all the commercials and movie trailers are posted online anyway, I didn’t miss anything either! Like this sweet new trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

Looks as funny and enjoyable as ever! Hooray team roster and snappy dialogue!

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 2/4/17

Can you believe it’s February already? I know everybody says that all the time, but still. February. Wow. But hey, that hasn’t stopped comics from coming out!

This week saw a nice, competent pile of good books, from new Hawkeye to Nova to Harley Quinn. These are some of my favorites! Comic Book of the Week goes to the second issue of Unstoppable Wasp for creating a truly unstoppably charming character!
