Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 6/22/24

Another week where a lot of my favorite comics come out! But I’m not reviewing everything anymore these days. Some times a new comic is just really enjoyable, but there’s not much I have to say about it, so to spare my sanity sometimes, I’m just not going to include it. Looking at you, latest excellent issue of Nightwing…But we do have new Batman and Ultimate Spider-Man comics!

Comic Book of the Week goes to Wonder Woman #10 for a truly emotional and heartfelt issue that finally addresses the Cheetah in the room.

Also much kicking

Meanwhile, not much else going on for me right now. I’m juggling a few different video games until I settle on something big and new. Maybe Elden Ring, finally? I’m not really vibing with The Acolyte, haven’t started The Boys. Haven’t read any of my big pile of graphic novels. Moving along nicely on making Gamer Girl & Vixen. And surviving this heat wave. So yeah, just kinda strolling along through life.

Comic Reviews: Batman #149, Ultimate Spider-Man #6 and Wonder Woman #10.

6 X-Men Who Could Be Avengers

Despite being two of the flagship teams at Marvel, there has been very little membership crossover between the X-Men and the Avengers. In fact, it’s being hailed as a big deal that Storm will join the Avengers later this year as part of the new X-Men revival. Should be fun!

I should get back into reading this comic

Only a couple of X-Men have joined the Avengers over the decades. Beast is the most famous, and then Wolverine joined when they reworked the Avengers out of the most popular characters in the 2000s. Cannonball and Sunspot joined Jonathan Hickman’s Avengers because he loves those characters. And the Uncanny Avengers have been a thing a couple of times. But this list is all about the main Avengers roster, the premiere superhero team in the Marvel Universe. The roster tends to always be in flux these days, and I think it could use some new mutant blood.

So join me after the jump for six X-Men characters who, I think, could make it as Avengers. Or at least they’d be an interesting addition to the team. And feel free to share your own ideas in the comments below!

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 6/8/24

We’re back with more comic book reviews! I do apologize that these will be more haphazard from me going forward. Sometimes there just aren’t any comics coming out that I really have an opinion on. And sometimes I can be pretty lazy. But this week saw some solid releases, like Batman and The Ultimates.

Comic Book of the Week goes to Scarlett #1 for a clean, enjoyable new chapter in the ongoing Energon Universe.

We’ve all been there

Meanwhile, I beat God of War: Ragnarok and it was an excellent game! Just as big and fun as the first. I’ve burned through a couple of TV shows. I enjoyed Mr. and Mrs. Smith, didn’t care for the first two episodes of The Acolyte and absolutely adored Hazbin Hotel. That show lives up to all its hype! This weekend is the third and final season of Sweet Tooth, so hopefully that’s fun.

This week also saw the final issue of the Krakoa Era for X-Men, but I checked out awhile ago, so it won’t be reviewed this week. Bring on From the Ashes!

Comic Reviews: Batman #148, The Boy Wonder #2, Scarlett #1 and The Ultimates #1.

Surprise Venom 3 Trailer!

I didn’t know we were getting a Venom 3 trailer today! How exciting! I think I’m OK with the Venom movies? They’re not good movies, but the Venom/Eddie Brock dynamic more than makes up for any other shortfalls. And that’s entertaining enough. And they’re clearly leaning into all of that in the first trailer for Venom 3: The Last Dance.

Looks generic and exciting! The only thing I really want from this movie is for Juno Temple to become Scream, my favorite symbiote. There seem to be a couple of symbiotes floating in the science lab, but we don’t get a tease that any of them take over either her or Chiwetel Ejiofor, though it could happen! He could become Lasher or Phage. Venom and Eddie could lead a whole team of human/symbiote teams to take on this new threat from his homeworld!

But, again, that’s just wishful thinking that Juno Temple plays my favorite symbiote!

Venom: The Last Dance comes to theaters on Oct. 25.

6 Things I Want To See in the Second Season of X-Men ’97

The first season of X-Men ’97 was a masterpiece. It was perfect from beginning to end. And one of the best parts of the series was how it took multiple storylines from the comics and condensed and reworked them to fit the show’s own, largely original storyline. It was brilliantly done. I gave the show a perfect 10/10 score in my review last week. Loved it!

So what about season 2?

They look so innocent

X-Men ’97 has already been confirmed for a second and third season. In fact, season 2 is already in production. Showrunner Beau DeMayo has been fired by Marvel for reasons that have not yet been revealed, but he wrote a lot of the scripts for season 2, so there should be some quality assured. But aside from Apocalypse being a main focus, season 2 could feature pretty much anything and anyone. Season 1 was also filled to the brim with cameos and Easter Egg character appearances. Anyone could appear from anywhere in the franchise.

I did a List of Six years ago about characters and concepts I hoped to see in X-Men ’97. Nothing on that list came to pass. Now that we know what we can expect from this show, I’ve put together a new list specifically for what I’d like to see in season 2! And expect FULL SPOILERS for season 1 in this list as I discuss what I’d like to see happen next!
