6 Avengers Who Won’t Be In The Movie

Captain America. Thor. Iron Man. The Incredible Hulk. Heroes, champions, Avengers! When the new movie hits in 2012, we are going to get one superhero-packed adventure of pure awesome. I’m not even being hyperbolic. Marvel Studios has done the impossible, creating a whole series of movies to introduce audiences to their characters, then they’ll bring them together to star in the biggest movie yet with The Avengers! Who could have predicted that Iron Man would be such a hit? Or that Thor and Captain America would be so good? Everything is set for the superhero movie to end all superhero movies.

But not all Avengers are cool enough to make the cut.

The dream team

The Avengers comic book has been ongoing since the 60s, and the team we’re getting in next year’s movie is only a small fraction of the different superheroes who have been Avengers in the comics. Sure, guys like Captain America and Iron Man are the backbone of the Avengers. But what about the nobodies you’ve never heard of? What about the grunts and the cannon fodder who at one point in time were part of the team, but won’t be making the cut for the movie?

Well allow me to introduce you to 6 of the lamest superheroes to ever call themselves Avengers, but who aren’t about to grace the silver screen anytime soon.

6 Comic Books that Should Become TV Shows

The announcement yesterday that the Syfy Network has ordered a pilot script for obscure DC superhero Booster Gold got me thinking: what other comic book superheroes or stories would make for great live-action TV? We already know that superhero movies are a huge hit in Hollywood, and there are decades worth of superhero cartoons from Marvel Comics, DC and also some indie publishers. Even live-action shows based on comic books have been successful. The Walking Dead is currently kicking ass on AMC. And Smallville, the story of Superman as a teenager, ran for a whopping 10 seasons on the CW!

And heck, Booster Gold even appeared in live action during an episode of Smallville. That show gave us our first on-screen, live-action Justice League years before The Avengers movie will hit theaters.

And they did it with explosions and crappy green screen effects!

New shows and programs flood our boob tubes every year, like flinging a bunch of crap against a wall and hoping something sticks. Sometimes they’re a surprise success, sometimes they are canceled after one or two episodes and sometimes, like the Wonder Woman pilot, they never get broadcast at all. TV is a funny world.

Well here are 6 Comic Books that I think Should Become TV Shows! And I mean only live-action, no cartoons.

My 6 Favorite Authors

The creative process

I want to be a novelist. That’s my dream job, right there. To be able to kick back and create wonderfully imaginative stories, then share those stories with the world. I have several ideas, but I’ve yet to really get working on any novel. I mean, isn’t everybody trying to ‘finish their novel’? It’s one of those extreme jobs, like a rock star, where you have to work really hard, and even then there’s only a slim chance that you’ll get your big break and be discovered.

The work will be worth it though. I love to write. This blog and my day job are proof of that. I just need to find somebody who will pay me to write what I want to write.

I’ve wanted to write books for a long time now, books or comic books. But ideally, I want to write a novel. An adventure story. Something exciting and character-driven. I have no interest in writing a screenplay and trying to get discovered in Hollywood. Working on a TV show is probably a blast, but that’s still lower on my list than writing a popular novel. So I thought I’d share with everyone My 6 Favorite Authors. These are writers whom I’ve read extensively and have loved almost everything they’ve done. I’m not as well-read as I’d like to be, so maybe I’m missing out on some great stuff, but I’m happy with what I’ve read. Maybe I’ll even get some of you interested in checking out their work.

And much thanks to Alyssa for introducing me to several of these authors.

6 Things I Want in the Third Batman: Arkham Game

No one could have predicted the amazing success of developer Rocksteady’s pair of Batman video games, Arkham Asylum and Arkham City. Before Aslyum, Batman games suuuuucked. Most superhero video games sucked. But the geniuses at Rocksteady created a brilliant peek into the world of Batman, revolutionizing superhero video games the same way Batman Begins and The Dark Knight revolutionized supehrero movies. Then Rocksteady did it again with the sequel, Batman: Arkham City. They took everything that everyone loved about the first game and made it bigger and better.

They didn’t fix what wasn’t broken. Instead they just gave us more, more, more! More villains. More heroes. More room to play around. More side quests. More fights. More everything! Arkham City is huge!

Or it's just the right size to do this

So what are they going to do for a third game?

I just beat the Riddler yesterday, so I’m already eager for the next game. Here is a list of 6 Things I Want in the Third Batman: Arkham Game. I’m leaving out obvious choices like a return of the famous voice cast, more gadgets, more puzzles and a bigger game world. Those things are all pretty much a given. These are specific characters, locations and game play styles that I want to see in the next game.

6 Best and 6 Worst Female Superhero Halloween Costumes

Women wearing slutty costumes for Halloween has become so synonymous with the holiday that it’s a now a cliche. It’s expected behavior. Thankfully not while trick-or-treating, but definitely at parties. Not that I’m complaining, but ‘slutty’ has definitely replaced ‘spooky’ when it comes to Halloween costumes.

And that’s no more obvious than with female superhero costumes.

The popularity of superhero movies over the past decade has given a huge boost to the superhero costume market. The Internet is filled with pre-made costumes for sale for both men and women from all corners of the comic and movie universes. A lot of them are really good, even comics-accurate. But more than a few have been radically altered to better fit the ‘slutty’ theme. From a comic nerd’s opinion, some of them are quite ridiculous. And obviously the most important aspect of a Halloween costume is accuracy.

NERD!!!

In the spirit of the holiday, I scoured the Internet and found the 6 best, most accurate female superhero costumes, and 6 of the worst, sluttiest female superhero costumes. These were all pre-made and for sale from different websites. Enjoy!
